Research Design

The method used in this study was to distinguish the compressive strength of normal aggregates
and crushed carabao bones when used as partial substitute for aggregates. This study is an
experimental type since its primary aim is to satisfy the objectives of the study. Thereafter, each
sample will be subjected to test to obtain and compare its strength and cost.

Materials and Methods

The research study is about Crushed Carabao Bones (CCB) as partial substitute for aggregates
has 3 samples with different design mix proportion. Each 3 samples will be placed in concrete cylinder
for 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days of curing before the compressive test.
To properly perform the process in collecting data results in this research, the following were the
materials and procedures in this study:

Materials:
1. Set of Sieves
2. Timer
3. Weighing Scale
4. Oven
5. Machine Crusher
6. Mechanical Shaker

Procedures:
1. Preparation of Partial Substitute for Aggregate
This study will use Crushed Carabao Bones (CCB) as partial substitute for rough aggregate.

 Provide 5 sacks of carabao bones weighing a kilogram each.

 Dry the Carabao bones in an oven for 8 hours.
 Crush the Carabao Bones using a machine.

2. Sieve Analysis
This study is to determine the weight of the retained sieve. The process of sieving were as follows:

 Weigh each sieve and the bottom pan.

 Weigh a specimen approximately 500 grams.
 Sieve the CCB through a nest of sieves mechanical shaker for 10 minutes.
 Subtract the weight obtained in sieving with the weight of empty sieve to give the CCB
retained in # sieve.
 Tabulate data.

3. Design Mix Proportion

This study will employ the substitution of Crushed Carabao Bones (CCB) to aggregate. The
proportion mixes were as follows:

 0 % replacement CCB aggregate.

 25% replacement CCB aggregate.
 50% replacement CCB aggregate.
 75% replacement CCB aggregate.
 100% replacement CCB aggregate.
4. Fabricating the Samples
This study will fabricate each sample to be used in curing. The fabricating process were as follows:

 Prepare the molders for cylindrical samples.

 The molders length were 150 mm and 300 mm in length.
 Three (3) cylindrical samples of 1:1.5:3 mixture for each design were made.
 The coarse and fine aggregates used in the mixture came from the ……

5. Test Procedure
This study will determine the result of compressive strength of each samples. The test process
were as follows:

 The fabricated samples were cured using the conventional curing method. Cure each
sample for about 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days, respectively.
 Prepare the sample to determine the compressive strength using the Universal Testing
Machine (UTM).
