Title: HR and Personnel Management


Speaker: Hazelyn A. Gabuat, MPsy, RPm
Reaction:
This second semester the graduating students had to attend several seminars. In this seminar
happened at Francisco Balagtas Hall in Hiyas Convention Center entitled “HR and Personnel Management”
is all about Managing an Efficient Workforce. Ms. Gabuat is an experienced practitioner in the broad field
of psychology which is the industrial, clinical and academy settings. She’s a board passer of
Psychometrician licensure examination, Certified Gestalt Therapist under clinical supervision and Certified
Community Facilitator regarding behavioral modification and management. She holds Master’s degree in
Psychology major in Clinical Psychology at Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Manila and
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at De La Salle University in Dasmarinas.

Ms. Gabuat is highly knowledgeable in all Human Resource Facets, oversee and conducts ISO
Quality Standards and Procedure, DOH Standards and DOLE Standards in the Industrial setting. She’s a
skilled clinical practitioner in conducting psychological services, Co-owner of Psyche Solution
Psychological Services in Valenzuela and Co-founder of Kalinga sa Pag-asa Foundation in Valenzuela.

With her experience, she’s conducting seminars as a resource speaker regarding mental health
awareness and clinical practice, research panelist in Philippine Women’s University, psychological test
validator for college students. Currently affiliated in Maritime Training Center as Psychologist. She’s one
of the developers of Behavior Based Safety Course for Petty Officers, conducts the Behavior Based Safety
Course for management level and Leadership courses. Also involved in the Progressive Development
Course for DP, Deck and Engine Officers as Behavior Specialist.

The guest speaker begins the seminar with the comparison of Personnel Management and Human
Resource Management. Wherein the Personnel Management is concerned with the workforce and their
relationship with the entity. However, the Human Resource Management focuses on the most effective use
of the manpower of an entity and to achieve the organizational goals. There are five HR Functions:
Recruitment and Selection, Organizational Development, Employee Discipline, Performance Management,
and Compensation and Benefits. The guest speaker also provides a sample interview questions. Not only
HR are the responsible in hiring an employee but also the head department or the leader whose needing for
an employee. Because they are the one who knows the qualification of their employee. She also discussed
the termination in the Philippines according to Labor Code. There are three formats in writing a resume:
Reverse-Chronological, Functional, and Combination. Resume is the advertisement and you are the
product.

Title: ISO 9001: 2015


Speaker: Engr. Jonhel B. Gonzales
Reaction:
This second semester the graduating students had to attend several seminars. In this seminar
happened at Francisco Balagtas Hall in Hiyas Convention Center entitled “ISO 9001:2015” is all about
Integration of Quality Management Systems for Risk-Based Thinking. Engr. Gonzales is an Operations
Engineer and Quality Management Specialist, a Quality Supervisor in NutriAsia Marilao and a Plant
Industrial Engineer in Central Affirmative Co., Inc. Aficionado.

During the seminar the guest speaker starts the seminar in presenting the list of topics to be
discussed but with the short period of time, he’s going to discussed all of it in limited time. ISO 9001: 2015
is about the Quality Management System Standards. He discussed when the ISO 9001:2015 was published,
number of companies certified, how many requirements are auditable, how many year transition will be
allowed, and discussed several sections of ISO 9001:2015. When labelling a product or system as certifies
to ISO standard, we can’t say “ISO certifies or ISO certification” only, rather say it “ISO 9001:2015
certified or ISO 9001:2015 certification. The ISO logo is a registered trademark and cannot be used by
anyone outside of ISO, unless authorized. The benefits of ISO 9001:2015: International Competitiveness;
directs and controls the organization towards its goal and high quality product and services; increases profit,
minimizes expenses and develops a highly systematic system that helps the company to eliminates customer
complaints; and Increases customer satisfaction. There are three steps on handling identifies non-
conformities: before resolving the non-conformities, identify first the root cause of the problem; create
correction for initial and immediate resolution for the problem for it will not get bigger; and create
corrective action plans for it will not re-occur. Correction or Mitigating Action, is an action made to
immediately resolve the issue. Corrective Action is an action to resolve the current issue and prevent its
recurrence. Preventive Action Risk Based is an action made to resolve potential non-conformities and avoid
its occurrence. Corrections, root cause analysis, corrective actions, timeline for creative and corrections,
responsible, status, and evidence are the contents of action plans. The guest speaker are giving aficionado,
journal to those answered his questions during discussion.

Title: Industry 4.0


Speaker: Engr. Myrrha Bernadette Santiago and Engr. John Paolo Isip
Reaction:
This second semester the graduating students had to attend several seminars. In this seminar
happened at Francisco Balagtas Hall in Hiyas Convention Center entitled “Industry 4.0” is all about A deep
dive to digital transformation and innovation. The first guest speaker is Engr. Myrrha Bernadette Santiago
and Engr. John Paolo Isip.

Engr. Myrrha Bernadette Santiago graduate in Bulacan State University, Batch 2017 and a BS
Industrial Engineering Management Trainee at Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation whose one of job
descriptions is about innovating and delivering process improvement in every business unit Affiliated at
IEdeas Review Center. She’s a Civil Service Professional, Certified IE, Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow
Belt, Associate ASEAN Engineer, and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Trainied.

Engr. John Paolo A. Isip is also graduate in Bulacan State University, Batch 2017 with a course of
BS Industrial Engineering. He’s a reviewer and a panel member in Czech Republic, a session chairman –
ergonomic design, a University instructor and Engineering Program Moderator in La Consolacion
University Philippines, a management trainee in Fisher Farms Inc., a project management Engineer in
Johnson and Johnson Philippines, and have an On-the-Job-Training in RamCar Technologies Inc.

There are four phases of Industrialization: Industry 1.0 is Water and Stream Power to run
mechanical production facilities; Industry 2.0 is Electric Power to make work-sharing production possible;
Industry 3.0 Electronics and IT to automate production; Industry 4.0 to monitor, analyze, and automate
operations. Industry 4.0 is a smarter, more connected world in which we are free to enjoy creative thinking
while our possessions complete the mundane tasks, “Industry 4.0 is not the future but the reality now.”
Industry 4.0 is the connectedness, automation, cloud computing, internet of things, and big data. SMAC is
Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud. In social there are 7.4 billion people in the Earth, 3.1 billion internet
users, 2.3 billion active social users, 90% of adults age 18 to 19 use social media, they allotted 2 hours per
day, and have a 5 social media accounts. In mobile there are 7.4 billion people in the Earth, 6.0 billion own
smart phones, 4.2 billion own toothbrushes, more mobile phones than toilets. In Analytics, the data stored
grows 4x faster than the world economy, 90% of the world’s data has been created in the last 2 years, in
every day we create 2.5 Quintillion bytes of data, which is fill of 10 million Blu-ray discs, the height of
which stacked, would measure the height of 4 Eiffel Towers on top of one another. “After people, data is
our most valuable asset. In Cloud, 3 out of 4 decision makers use cloud services for their business.

As engineers, we have to be relevant. And to be relevant, we have to be value-adding. Innovation


is something fresh that creates or adds value. Innovation is combination of insight, ideas and impact. There
are 4P’s of Innovation: proposition, pitch, proposal, prototype and recently they add passion.

During discussion, the guest speaker wants the students to jot down as many as good uses we can
think in paper clip. Also there are 9 dots and we need to connect it in 4 lines only. And after that, the guest
speaker wants to jot down again the used of paper clip that resulted of the creative thinking of the students.
The powerpoint presentation of the two guest speakers are more creative that they got our attention.
