HINILAWOD SCRIPT
the mouth of the river.
Scene 1
N: When the goddess of the eastern sky Alunsina reached
maidenhood, the king of the gods, Kaptan, decreed that she should
marry. All the unmarried gods of the different domains of the universe
tried to win her hand to no avail.
(Act out this while the narrator is speaking. The boys will offer gifts to
alunsina but alunsina will not accept any of the gifts from the gods.)
Datu Paubari (DP) will enter he scene after the other suitors exit.
Paubari:Ako si Datu Paubari ng Halawod. Naparito ako upang hingin
ang iyong kamay sa pag-iisang dibdib.
Alunsina: Tinataggap ko ang iyong alok na maging iyong kaisang
dibdib.
Scene 2
N: Her decision angered her other suitors. They plotted to bring harm
to the newlyweds.
(Boys and/or girl will act as the suitors and have a meeting.)
Maklium: Hindi ko hahayaang maging masaya suba Alunsina at
Paubari. Sirain natin ang Halawod.
(short pause, act out thinking)
Suitor #1: Baha! Gamitingang baha!
Makium: Tama! Baha, upng walang matira sa mga nakatira sa
Halawod.
N: Alunsina and Paubari escaped harm through the assistance of
Suklang Malayon, the goddess and guardian of happy homes and
sister of Alunsina.
After the flood waters subsided, the couple returned and settled near
(act out the line of the narrator)
Scene 3
N: Several months later, Alunsina became pregnant.
Alunsina: Paubari, ihanda mo ang siklot, manganganak na ako.
Lalabas na ang mga bata.
(Paubari will act out getting/preparing the siklot)
Paubari: Ang lulusog ng anak natin. Tatlong lalaking malulusog.
Alunsina: Ipatawag mo ang ermetanyong si Bungot-Banwa upang
mabigyan nya ng ritwal ng Madya-as ang mga anak natin para
magkaroon sila ng magandang kalusugan.
Paubari: Oo aking asawa, sa lalong medaling panahon ay
ipapatawag ko sya.
N: The high priest promptly made an altar and burned
somealanghiran fronds and a pinch of kamangyan. When the
ceremony was over, he opened the windows of the north side of the
room and a cold northernly wind came in and suddenly the three
indants were transformed into strong, handsome young men.
Scene 4
N: Labaw donggon, the eldest of the three asked his mother to
prepare his things for his journey.
Donggon: Mahal na ina, pakihanda ang aking mahiwagang, sinturon,
sombrero, kappa at kampilan. Maglalabay ako patungo sa Handug
upang hingin ang kamay ni Angoy Ginbitinan.
Alunsina: Sige anak. Ihahanda ko ang mga gamit mo sa pag lalayag,
Mag-iingat ka.
N: The journey took several days. He walked across plains and
valleys, cli8mbed up mountains until he reached the mouth of
Halawod river. He finally met the maiden’s father…
Scene 5
Donggon: Ako si Labaw Donggon, anak ni Alunsina, ang diyosa ng
silangang kalangitan. At ni Datu Paubari ng Halawod. Naparito ako
upang hingin ang kamay ng inyong anak sa pag-iisang dibdib.
Father: Nakikita ko na ikaw ay nagmula sa isang maayos na pamilya
at anak ng diyosa ngunit may hihilingin akong misyon na kasama ng
iyong dowry upng pahintulutan ko ang aking anak na magpakasal
sayo.
N: Angoy’s father asked him to fight the monster Manalintad as part of
his dowry. He went off to confront the monster and with the help of his
magic belt, he killed the monster to prove it, he brought the monster’
tail to Angoy Ginbitinan’s father.
(act out the giving of tail to the father)
N: After the wedding, Labaw Donggon went home with his bride.
Along the way, they met group of young men who told him that they
were off to Tarambang Burok to win the hand of Abyang Durunuun,
sister of Sumpoy, the lord of the underworld and whose beauty is
legendary.
(act out the seen)
Scene 6
N: Labaw Donggon and his bride continued their journey home. The
moment they arrived home…
Donggon: Mahal na ina, nais kong kayo muna ang mag-alaga sa
aking asawa. Nais kong maglakbay ulit patungo sa Tarambang Burok.
Alunsina: Anong pakay mo at tutungo ka doon?
Donggon: Hihingin ko ang kamay ni Abyang Duunuun.
N: Before he can get to the place, he has to pass a ridge guarded by
a giant named Sikay Padalogdog who has a hundred arms. The giant
was no match to Labaw Donggon’s power and skill in fighting so the
giant gave up.
( act out the fight scene)
N: Labaw Donggon won the hand of Abyang Durnuun and took her
home. Before long, he went on another journey, this time it is to
Gadlum to ask for the hand of Malitong Yaw Sinagmaling Diwata, the
young bride of Saragnayan, Lord of darkness.
( Malitong will showcase her beauty by walking around . when
saragnayan is introduce, a boy will walk and depict darkness/evil)
Scene 7
N: This trip required him to use his biday nga inagta on which he
sailed across the seas for many months. Finally he reached the
shores of Tulogmatian, the seaside fortress of Saragnayan. The
moment he set foot on the ground....
Saragnayan: Sino ka at bakit ka naririto
Donggon: Ako si Labaw Donggon, anak ni Datu Paubari ng Halwod
at ni Alunsina ang dyosa ng silangang kalangitan. Naparito ako upang
pakasalan ang magandan si Malitong Yawa Sinagmaling Diwata.
Saragnayan: (evil laughter) Imposibleng mangyari ang iyong sinasabi
sapagkat si Malitong Yawa ay aking asawa.
Donggon: Kung ganu, hinahamon kita sa isang dwelo. Ikaw at ako,
lakas sa lakas, lalaki sa lalaki. Kung sino ang manalo sa ating pag
lalaban ay siyang may karapatan upang makasam si Malitong Yawa.
Saragnayan: ( evil laughter) Malakas ang iyong loob. Pagbibigyan ko
ang iyong hamon. ( evi laughter)
N: the challenge was accepted and they started fighting. Labaw
Donggon submerged Saragayan under water for 7 years, but when he
let go if him, Saragnayan was still alive. Saragnayan uprooted a
coconut tree and started beating Labaw Donggon. Labaw Donggon
survived the beating but was not able to surpass Saragnayan’s
Pamlang and Labaw Donggong gave up and was imprisoned by
Saragnayan beneath his house,

N: Back home, Angoy Ginbitinan and Abyang Durunun both delivered
sons. Angoy’s child was named Aso Mangga and Abyang’s child was
named Abyang Baranugon.
( act out this scene the narrators )
Scene 8
N: Only a few days after they were born…
Aso: Maglalayag kami ni Abyang upang hanapin si ama. Pupunta
kami sa Gadlum upang iligtas at iuwi si ama.
( abyang standing beside him ready for the journey)
Scene 9
N: They rode their sailboats through the region o eternal
darkness.Upon reaching Saragnayan’s home…
Saragnayan: Sino ka at anong pakay mo dito sa aking teritoryo?
Abyang: Ako si Abyang Baranugon at siya naman ang aking kapatid
na si Aso Mangga, Naparito kami upang iligtas ang aming amang
iyong binihag.
Saragnayan: (evil laughter) Ikaw?! Ikaw ang magliligtas sa kanya? Ni
hindi pa nga napuputol ang iyong pusod. (evil laughter)
Aso: Saragnayan, hinahamon kita sa isang lban. Kapag matalo kita
ay iuuwi namin ang aming maha na ama.
Saragnayan: Sige pumapayag ako. Simulan na natin!
Scene 10
N: Humadapnon prepared to go to Saragnayan’s domain. He
employed the aid of Buyong Matanayonof Mount Matiula who was
well-known for his skill in swordmanship. For their journey, they rode
on a sailboat called biday nga rumba-rumba. They travelled through
the clouds and the region of eternal darkness and ended up at a place
called Tarabang Buriraw. In this place was a ridge called Talagas-
Kutingtangwhere a seductive sorceress named Piganun lived.
(act out the travelling and the swordmanship of Buyong)
N: Piganun changed herself to a beautiful maiden and captured the
heart of Humadapnon.
Buyong: Humadapnon, kailangan na nating umalis at ituloy ang
paglalakbay.
Humadapnona: Hindi. Manatil tayo dto sa Talagas-Kutingtang upang
aking makasama ang magandang si Piganun.
N: After seven months passed Buyong remembered that they have
brought ginger with them. One evening at dinner time, Buyong
Matanayon threw seven slices of ginger into the fire. Piganun smelled
the odor of it and immediately left the dinner table because she hated
it. Buyong suddenly struck Humadapnon who became unconscious.
Buyong dragged Humadapnon away from the ridge and to their
escape.
Scene 11
N: They continued with their trek and everywhere they went, they
exacted revenge on Saragnayan’s followers and relatives. One day
they reached a place called Piniling Tubig who wasruled by Datu
Umbaw Pinaumbaw. There was a big gathering in the village.
Umbaw: Kung sino man ang lalaking makakapagalis ng malaking
bato sa gitna n gating nayon ay siyang mapalad na papakasalan ng
aking anak.
N: Humadapnon took if his magic cape and used it to lift the stoneand
threw it back into the mountain.
(act out the throwing of stone)
Umbaw: Maraming salamat at natanggal mo ang malaking bato na
matagal ng nakabalandra sagita ng aming nayon.
Humadapnon: Isang pribilehiyo ang aking pagtulong sa inyong lugar.
Umabaw: Dahil nagawa mong tanggalin ang bato, pinahihintulutan
kitang pakasalan ang aking anak.
( act out Humadapnon taking the girl’s hands)
N: During the wedding feast, Humadapnon heared about the beauty
of the goddesss of greed Buridang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan from a
guest minstrel who sang at the celebration.
Scene 12
N: After the wedding, Humadapnon went to seek the hand of the
goddess in marriage. Along the way he encountered Buyong
Makabagting.
(2 boys walking)
Buyong: Magandang araw kaibigan. Maaari bang malaman ang
iyong pangalan at san ka patungo?
Humadapnon: Ako si Humadapnon mula sa Halawod. Naglalakbay
ako ngayon patungo sa lugar kung nasaan si Burigadang Pada
Sinaklang Bulawan upang pakasalan siya.
Buyong: Hindi maaari! Karapat dapat na maging kabiyak ng dyosa ng
kasakiman.
Humadapnon: Hindi ko hahayaang ikaw ang maging asawa nya.
Buyong: Hinahamon kita! Mag laban tayoa, kung sino ang manalo ay
siyang mag papakasal kay Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan.
Humadpnon: Tinatanggap mo ang iyong hamon sa isang duwelo.
Simulan na natin.
( act out fight scene and defeat of Buyong)
N: The fought and Buyong Makabagting was no match to
Humadapnon’s strength and skill.
Buyong: Sandali sandal! Hindi ko na kaya. Hindi ko kayang tapatan
ang iyong lakas sa galing sa pakikipaglaban. Hayaan mo kaibigan,
tutulungan kita sa iyong pakay na pakasalan ang dyosa ng
kasakiman,
Humadapnon: Salamat kaibigan.
N: Humadapnon married the goddess and brought her home.
Scene 13
N: Meanwhile, right after Humadapnon left to seek Saragnayan’s
followers and relatives, his brother Dumalapdap left for Burutlakan-ka-
adlaw where the maiden Lubay-Lubyok Hanginun si Mahuyokhuyokon
lived. For the trip he brought along Dumasig, the most powerful
wrestler in Madya-as.
Several months later they came to a place called Tarambuan-ka-
banwa where they encountered the two-headed monster Balanakon
who guarded a narrow ridge leading to the place where the maiden
lived.
(fight scene)
With the aid of Dumasig, Dumalapdap killed Balanakon. However,
upon approaching the gate of the palace where the maiden lived he
was confronted by Uyutang, a bat-like monster with sharp poisonous
claws. There ensued a bloody battle between the Dumalapdap and
the monster. They fought for seven months and their skill and 24:01 Gone Forever (No Vocal)
prowess seemed to be equal. But on the seventh month, Dumalapdap
was able to grab on to Uyutang’s ankle and broke it. Then he took his 26:08 Requiem of Sacrifice
iwang daniwan (magic dagger) and stabbed Uyutang under the 27:59 Maya
armpit. Uyutang cried out so loud that the ridge where they were
fighting broke into two and there was an earthquake. Half of the ridge 30:50 Flames of War
became the island of Buglas (Negros) and the other became the

and then took her home.

Datu Paubari was very happy when he was reunited with his three

sons and he prepared a feast in their honor. After the celebration, the
three brothers left for different parts of the world. Labaw Donggon 41:58 Those Without Fear
went to the north, Humadapnon went south, Dumalapdap to the west
