Addin

Addin throughout this unit was very reflective as he expressed his understanding about how
natural materials can go through changes and how can human beings take advantage of it
through a poster and presentation. His conceptual understanding on this topic has been
commendable. He has been a very important informant of this unit and shared his knowledge
in the prior knowledge checking session which has added great value to the classroom. His
enthusiasm has been vivid throughout the entire unit. He has been an inquirer and asked
relevant questions from his detailed research work. He has also shown his enthusiasm and
creativity while making the model with great detail for summative task. His overall performance
in this unit has been praiseworthy.

Soumic

Soumic has tried his level best to familiarize himself with the new concepts that he had learnt in
this unit. His prior knowledge related to the unit was inadequate and hence, he found it quite
difficult to thrive in the prior knowledge checking sessions. Despite his minimal understanding
in the first few weeks he had put remarkable efforts to thrive in the group works related to the
use of properties of materials and physical and chemical changes of materials around us. His
effort however would have brought more value if he had read more books related to the unit
which would have enhanced his knowledge and confidence. He has consistently given his best
effort on daily basis regardless of the difficulties that he is facing due to his transition period as
a new student and a new curriculum. He could make connection with the TD theme, “How the
World Works” by doing the physical and chemical change experiments on conditions that cause
reversible and irreversible changes in materials. His summative assessment has reflected well on his
understanding of the task that he was given but the presentation he gave had portrayed very
poor verbal presentation skills which clearly he needs to work on. His positive attitude is what
has kept him going throughout the unit and has helped him grasp several concepts and reflect
accordingly.
Anik

Throughout this unit, Anik has been very reflective, expressed his understanding about changes
in materials and their uses in society by creating an informative project work. He actively
participated in the prior knowledge checking session of this unit and proved himself to be very
important informant for the unit. He thrived in the group in the group work related to the
physical and chemical changes of materials along with real life examples and realized how the
different materials and their properties aid in development of human civilization. While doing
the group work, he expressed how he realized, that, by cooperating with each other, how his
peers are also dependant on each other. Anik has been enthusiastic and he had led great
inquiry into the unit which initiated learning among his peers. He has also actively participated
in all class discussions and did detailed research work of all topics he was given for this unit.
However, he has room for improvement in his presentation skills.

Ayon

Throughout the unit, Ayon was quite an observer but as the unit progressed he became more
involved in activities. It was evident that he has grasp over the discussed topic during the prior
knowledge checking session as he missed out on participating in different activities before. He
did better in the group work related to the physical and chemical changes of materials while
recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life through his research work for the
formative and summative assessment for the unit. However, he needed to engage more
actively in all class discussions related to the unit and should have developed the habit of
reading unit related books which would have given him abundant information to be more
confident and informed about the topics from the unit. While Ayon presented his poster for the
summative assessment, it was evident that his presentation skill needs a lot of improvement.
His irregular participation in class discussions due to inadequate English skills has not positively
impacted his overall performance in this unit and it has also made him ask less questions. He is
encouraged to read more English books, newspapers and work on his English skills to enhance
is performance next unit.
Bushra

Bushra grew interest for this unit as the weeks progressed. Initially, she was less informed but
with time she became an inquirer. She had many questions in mind to ask and she did dig
deeper into those topics as she researched further. She did the presentation on conditions that
cause reversible and irreversible changes in materials with enthusiasm and creativity. She has shown
more interest to do the activity based tasks for this unit. Bushra has demonstrated well
developed communication skills through the group and pair works that she has done. She had
expertise in connecting with the summative task and she constructed an impressive model
which she explained with range of acquired knowledge. She needs to work on her verbal
presentation skills. Her conceptual understanding of the summative task would have been
better if she was more vocal during class discussions. However, she has shown interest in
learning new topics and making a habit of reading more unit related books with enhance her
knowledge vastly.

Fahim

Throughout this unit, Fahim has been very reflective as he expressed his understanding about
how natural materials can undergo changes that may provide challenges and benefits for society and
the environment by presenting a research based presentation on changes of materials. He
actively participated in the prior knowledge checking session of this unit and proved himself to
be a very important informant of the unit. He thrived in the group work related to the physical
and chemical changes of materials while recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life
through his research work for the summative assessment for the unit. While doing this group
work, he expressed how he realized that by cooperating with each other, how his peers are also
dependent on one another. He thought in depth about the topics for this unit and got involved
deeply with it. He could make connection with the TD theme, “How the World Works” by using
different properties of materials for making cushion as part of his summative task. He was
excellent in the class discussion sessions related to the unit. His verbal presentation skills are
praiseworthy and his understanding of the summative assessment task was sound. He could
explain the properties of materials, their real life examples of physical and chemical changes,
and the use of properties while making an object. His demonstration and discussion portrayed
his sound understanding of the unit.
Tosa

Tosa has shown independence throughout this unit. Her active participation throughout the
unit has been praiseworthy. She has been reflective as she expressed her understanding about
materials and use of their properties very enthusiastically. She actively participated in the prior
knowledge checking session and proved herself to be a very important informant of the unit.
She thrived in the group work related to the physical and chemical changes of materials and
realized how societies make use of that for advancement of humankind. While doing this group
work, she expressed how she realized that by cooperating with each other, we humans are also
dependent on each other. Tosa’s vibrant participation on the reflection segments on the
concepts of the unit has been commendable. She thought in depth on the topics covered and
asked relevant questions related to the unit. She could make connection with the TD theme,
“How the World Works” by doing activities and demonstrations related to the physical and
chemical changes of materials while recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life
through her research work for the summative assessment for the unit. She also excelled in the
class discussions related to the unit and has been able to answer many important questions
which have helped her classmates. Tosa has manifested an excellent summative assessment
presentation on which she has portrayed her sound understanding of concepts about conditions
that cause reversible and irreversible changes in materials and how societies take advantage of the
properties of materials. Her diagrams and her explanation on her presentation poster were
exemplary. She has read and used that information on her works from various unit related
books.

Jarif Alam

Jarif has been an independent worker for this unit. He expressed his understanding of materials and
use of their properties very enthusiastically by presenting a research based presentation on
changes of materials. He researched about it and came up with an informative work. He
actively participated in the prior knowledge checking session of this unit and proved himself to
be very important informant for the unit. He thrived in the group work related to the physical
and chemical changes of materials while recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life
through his research work for the summative assessment for the unit. While doing this group
work, he expressed how he realized that by cooperating with each other, how his peers are also
dependent on each other. His ability to work cordially with group members has been reflected
and he proved himself to be an asset for the groups worked it. He has been enthusiastic and he
led great inquiry into the unit which initiated learning among his peers. He has also partially
participated in all class discussions. However he has room of improvement in his presentation
skills and his overall concentration level.

Alif

Alif was a reflective learner during this unit. He reflected on what he already knew about the
unit and shared it with the class. The activities prompted Alif to ask more questions than usual.
One such activity was the group work related to the physical and chemical changes of materials,
while recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life through his research work for the
summative assessment for the unit. During this group work, he expressed how he cleared many
of his misconceptions about the unit by doing proper research work. Alif was very active during
the physical and chemical changes of materials and realized how societies make use of that for
advancement of humankind. He thought in depth while preparing the concept map and asked
inquisitive questions related to the unit. He could make connection with the TD theme, “How
the World Works” and reflected his understanding well by giving extremely important answers
to queries during his summative presentation. He thoroughly enjoyed all the class discussions
and has always been able to give valuable input. He did detailed research work on materials
and their properties and proved their use of properties in society through detailed explanation
with the aid of model. Alif’s overall performance for this unit has been commendable.

Leon

To start with the unit, Leon has not been inquisitive due to lack of information as found in the
prior knowledge checking session. However, as the unit progressed he delved into the new
concepts he had been learning which he put a lot of interest in. He had difficulty in reflecting his
learning into practice but by watching real life demonstration of physical and chemical changes
of material, he has shown sound improvement. He could make connection with the TD theme,
“How the World Works” by doing activities and demonstrations related to the physical and
chemical changes of materials while recognizing examples of such changes in everyday life
through his research work for the summative assessment for the unit. The summative task
presentation has shown that he needs improvement in his English speaking skills, presentation
skills and needs to further develop his research skills, which would help to enhance his
knowledge. In this regard, reading books would be extremely helpful. Leon otherwise had a
positive attitude and he has been able to portray self improvement.
