STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
There is a saying, “The only thing Permanent in life is Change”. This perfectly holds true to the
world of Computer Science & Engineering, where novel ideas become obsolete in the blink of
an eye. My most remarkable characteristic has been my curiosity to learn about new topics and
hence, I wish to pursue a Graduate degree in Computer Science, which will not only supplement
my knowledge but also provide a strong platform for my future endeavors.
My love for programming dates back to when I was in 7th grade. My Computer Class professor
introduced me to C programming and I was fascinated by how a couple of lines were able to
generate an output of “Hello World” on the console. This led me to choose Computer Science
as my vocational subject for my 11th and 12th grade at Thakur College of Science & Commerce.
After my 12th Grade, I went to Parul University, Vadodara, which is one of my Nation’s Premier
Multidisciplinary University, to pursue Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science &
Engineering.
As a part of Prototype Designing course of 4th Semester, I developed a prototype of a web-
based software application along with my colleagues, which would enable hospitals and
medical practitioners to maintain a digital record of health records of all patients. My Professor
was really impressed by this project of mine and I got an “O” grade in Prototype Designing
Course. For my final year project, “Lung Disease Classification using CNN”, the primary objective
is to create a Web Application that helps patients to upload their X-Ray images and diagnose a
respiratory disease. This system would compare the user fed data with a database which
contains x-rays of humans with infected lungs. My project would be an aid to mankind, as it
would minimize the cost and diagnosis time.
I believe that to learn Software Development and Engineering, one needs practical experience.
So, I took a part-time internship at Vishawish Ventures, which is a startup based in Mumbai. I
was positioned there as a “Web Developer Intern” and subsequently, as “Python Developer
Intern” for a total of 4 months. It was a great learning experience which taught me the
essentials of Web Development and Software Engineering. After this internship, I knew that I
wanted to pursue Software Development as my career. Besides academics, active participation
in a wide range of extracurricular activities has ensured the all-round development of my
personality. From the very base years of my bachelors, I was involved in organizing and
participating in various fests and sports events held in my college such as “DHOOM” and
“PROJECTIONS”. I am an active volunteer at “FRIENDS SOCIETY”, an NGO that conducts need-
based activities for socially and economically backward sections of the society.
In my final year, I co-founded ‘Uniphyd’, which is a student-operated Tech community in Parul
University. We host various sessions wherein all students share interdisciplinary thoughts
regarding Computer Science. I conducted a hands-on session on “Build & Deploy Web App using
Node.js” which proved to be a great success. These initiatives enhanced my leadership skills.

Having acquired a solid foundation in the field of computer science through a rigorous
undergraduate program, at this point, I feel that I am ready to take up graduate studies. New
York is one of the leading technology hubs in the globe, would certainly be the ideal place to
pursue my masters, as in future it would provide me desired job-spaces and opportunities to
rub and improvise my skills. I aspire to gain a competitive edge in this ever-growing area and
became a veteran in this industry. I do not want to limit myself by sticking to only a few
technologies. I intend to be updated with newer technologies.
The graduate program in Computer Science offered by Tandon School of Engineering will
undoubtedly provide me with the right knowledge and experience to propel my career to the
fullest extent. I thoroughly went through Prof. Guido Greig’s work and I really look forward to
working with him in the field of Data Visualization and Analysis, as it is similar to my final year
Project. The practical orientation of your in-depth coursework will allow me to not only acquire
a clear understanding of the subject but also the adroitness to execute it. I am confident that
your university could award me with the power to carry forward my goals.
