Pesticides
Pesticides are used as plant protection products
which protect plants from damaging influences such
as weeds, fungi, and insects. The application of these
products is necessary to ensure sufficient food and
feed production in order to prevent famines. Despite
the advantages, pesticides are associated with many
environmental, safety and health concerns. In order
to minimize the negative effect the use of pesticides
may have on the environment or on humans, the use of
pesticides is regulated and there are maximum residue
levels for these pesticides in fruit and vegetables.

Glyphosate
Glyphosate is used as a plant protection product
which protects plants from damaging influences
by weeds, especially annual broadleaf weeds and
grasses that compete with crops. In order to prevent
safety issues, the use of glyphosate is regulated and
there are maximum residue levels. TLR International
Laboratories offers the LC-MS/MS method to
determine the presence of glyphosate residues in a
wide range of products.
Cs2
Dithiocarbamates is a group that functions as
a fungicide. The main components are thiram,
maneb and mancozeb. Maximum levels of
Dithiocarbamates are regulated by regulation
EC 822/2009. TLR International Laboratories offers
the GCMS method to determine the presence of
Dithiocarbamates in a wide variety of products.
Nitrates
Nitrates are fairly stable nitrogen compounds found
naturally in fruits, vegetables and grains. In general,
levels of Nitrates are higher in vegetables when
compared to fruits. Many vegetables, especially
root vegetables, grow within the soil and collect
high concentrations of nitrates. Maximum levels for
Nitrate are regulated by regulation EC 1881/2006.
These maximum levels of Nitrate depend on the
harvest period. TLR International Laboratories offers
the ion-chromatography method to determine the
presence of Nitrates in a wide range of fruit and
vegetables.
Norovirus
& Hepatitis-A
Foodstuffs can often contain viruses. Two of the
most common viruses in foodstuffs are the Norovirus
and the Hepatitis-A virus. Both can be found in raw
vegetables and fruits. These two viruses can be
transmitted to humans in various ways and can lead
to serious health risks. The Norovirus is the leading
cause of illness and outbreaks from contaminated
food. The Hepatitis-A virus is not common as a
foodborne viral outbreak in relation to public health:
the virus only sporadically appears in outbreaks from
within Europe.
TLR International Laboratories can analyse the
Norovirus and Hepatitis-A virus by a direct extraction
followed by a RT-PCR analysis. The test contains an
internal control RNA as an internal control for sample
preparation and possible inhibitions. The samples are
analysed on multi-channel PCR equipment.
