Introduction of the Industry

The pioneering industry has covered 461 years in Indian History which converted
around 40,000 titles and a turnover of Rs 700 Crores. Only 40% of the titles are in English.
This industry came into pioneer because of Christian Missionaries that made more publishing
of Bibles in India which made accident in 1542 at Goa where the first printing press started
and later it started as a tool to change the Indian History the freedom fight started like
Sudesimithran and other literature boosting articles the growth of printing press was
phenomenal. Further this printing press let to the advent of mass production of books,
Newspapers, Printing press and so on.

About the Firm

The company we interviewed is Vignesh Offset, which is located in Madurai. The

Company started in the year 1984 as a small printing company using manual hand drawing
method and develop into mass designs. The owner is an artist which motivated and helped
him to start this business. Currently, this firm has 2 printing units with latest technology. The
company’s products include visiting cards, calendars, books, magazines, name board,
marriage invitation, flex and banners (Outsourcing). They are the first company to use DTP
technology from 1987. The man power of this firm is 30. The main Customers are the
segments who use flyers, pamphlets, from small-scale business man to big business
magnates. The owner believes that there are no TG for him and says that whomever wants to
print will come to him (visiting cards, magazines, brochures, etc)

Challenges Faced by the Firm

In olden days, he felt difficult to operate the printing house in Madurai because
Sivakasi is the place where printing is famous and skilled labours are available only in that
area. Over the period of time due to development and Globalization he can run the offset
business successfully by hiring people and teach them the basic computer technology.

The machinery is imported from Japan with latest technology which costs from 30L- 1Cr.this
firm has 2 branches which are easily accessible and they are complying Government norms
and regulations in order to follow the commercial electricity consumption.

The main advertisements are done through Local Channels, Pamphlets, and in his own
products where he always places his company logo.
