A Lesson Plan in Transactional and Interactional Functions of Language

I. OBJECTIVES

After the discussion, the students are expected to:

 Define what is transactional and interactional function of language.


 Differentiate transactional and interactional function of language.
 Identify which function of language is being used in a given situation.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Daily Routine
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
B. Motivation

The teacher will show the students two pictures. Then, the teacher will ask them what they have
observed.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher will ask the students the following questions based on the previous pictures she had
shown:

 Which do you think can we find more casual and ordinary conversation?
 Which do you think requires a formal, straight-forward and concise expressions?

After the students answer, the teacher will proceed on discussing the Functions of Language.

D. Application

The teacher will group the class into five. Each group will have to prepare and perform a short
roleplay based on what function of language will be given to them.

E. Evaluation

The teacher will show the students pictures and they have to identify which function of language is
being shown in each picture.

Give at least five examples for each functions of language.
