8. Instructional Materials.
Instructional materials for this design were chosen and created. The focus of the instruction is
ethical use of information. The materials chosen are needed to complete the learning outcome for
the instructional goal. The audience consist of grade 12 economics students at Hardaway High
School in need of skills to help evaluate ethical use of information found online. The SME will
help evaluate the materials for its validity and reliability. The evaluator of the chosen
materials will be a teacher with a masters degree obtained in the field of study, secondary
education.

8.1. For the TO, specify and defend your choice of an appropriate pre-instructional materials.
Terminal Objective: Upon completion of the unit on Ethical use of information,(CN)
students at Hardaway High School will be able to seek information online(B), analyze the
content for accuracy and legitimacy(B) and ethically use and cite information(B) to support
their thoughts and ideas(CR)
● Pre-Instructional Materials
○ Self Assessment Checklist
■ Self administered
○ Sort Activity
■ Partner activity
The pre-instructional survey will be used to determine the students’ mindset and attitudes
towards ethical use of information prior to the instruction. The sort activity will give them time
to think about the situations provided and make decisions on whether it is ethical or not. This is
also a partner activity so it includes collaboration with peers.

8.2. Select one SO; specify and defend your choice of an appropriate presentation materials.
Subordinate objective: Students will be able to cite information correctly(B) using correct
format(CN) for their work.(CR)
● Presentation Materials
○ Neared Presentation
■ Whole Group
Nearpod presentation is an appropriate for sharing information with students. They will be
presented with information and be able to respond to information that they have received. The
presentation is sent out to their screen, and each student engages with it individually. Teachers
are able to monitor the students progress through the presentation and their responses to the
questions throughout the presentation.

8.3. For the same SO, specify and defend your choice of an appropriate practice materials.

Subordinate objective: Students will be able to cite information correctly(B) using correct
format(CN) for their work.(CR)
● Practice Materials
○ Information Scavenger Hunt
■ Partner activity
○ Report on Ethical use of information
■ Individual activity
The information scavenger hunt on the computer will show the teachers that students can identify
information. Can seek the cite information from the websites they use. It will also let the teacher
know if the students know how to find credible sources.

The report students will prepare on their findings to the research question “What is Ethical Use
of Information”. They students will be showing their learning through the report. It will give
them the opportunity to practice and present their knowledge.

8.4. For the TO, specify and defend your choice of an appropriate follow-through materials.
Terminal Objective: Upon completion of the unit on ethical use of information,(CN) students
at Hardaway High School will be able to seek information online(B), analyze the content
for accuracy and legitimacy(B) and ethically use and cite information(B) to support their
thoughts and ideas(CR)
● Follow-Through Materials
○ Unit Evaluation
■ Individually administered
■ Reflection
Students will complete a unit evaluation at the end of instruction. This allows the students to give
feedback and let the teachers know if the instruction was valuable or if there needs to be
modifications made to make it better. This will be done through Padlet.com.

9. Formative Evaluation Describe an approach that you might use to carry out formative
evaluation for your instruction.

The formative evaluation will be conducted in three phases: one-to-one evaluation, small group
evaluation and a field trial. After the completion of each phase, the instruction will be re-
evaluated. The instructional goal being assessed is: “By the end of the school year, secondary
education students at Hardaway High School will be able to seek, analyze and ethically use
information found online to support their thoughts/ideas.” The link to the questionnaire will be
provided below.

In phase one, the supervisors will be conducting one-to-one evaluations with 4 students from the
group. The target learners are high school seniors with prior background knowledge on the topic.
They will be given a test and a questionnaire to complete in order to assess the instructional goal

outcome. The test will measure three things: how clear the information was translated, if the
target learners improved on the goal, and if the materials provided were relevant to the goal. The
supervisor will administer the test and the questionnaire to each target learner. The questionnaire
will measure the target learners attitude and motivation towards the topic. The purpose of phase
one is to identify and correct errors, measure reactions to the content by the learners, and obtain
initial performance data (Dick, 2015)

In phase two, the supervisors will be conducting small-group evaluations. The small group will
consist of 12 target learners involving the same 4 learners from phase one. The target learners
were chosen to represent a group of learners with mixed achievement status: low, average, and
high. The purpose of phase two is identify any major learning problems and correct the errors
from phase one (Dick, 2015). We also want to measure if the target learners can complete the
instruction without a supervisor present. This phase will be conducted in a interview setting, the
target learns will be questioned in order to assess their attitudes towards instruction as well as the
materials used during instruction.

In phase three, the field trial is conducted. The purpose of phase three is to determine if the
changes made after phase two were effective, and to see if the instruction can be used within the
context it was intended for (Dick, 2015). During the field trial, the designer should not play a
role, the designer will provide the instructor with a the materials and manual to complete the
instruction. The field trial will consist of 30 target learners. The target learners will be asked to
use multiple search engines (online resources) to complete the instructional goal. The field trial
will be conducted in a high school classroom using 30 computers with access to the internet and
online resources. Each learner will have access to materials needed to complete the evaluation.

10. Revision Describe your plans for revising your instruction.

There are two basic types of revisions: changes made to the content of the materials to make
them more accurate to the subject, and changes made to the procedures for using the materials
(Dick, 2015). The data collected from the formative evaluation will be used to make changes, if
needed, for a future group of target learners. The areas of evaluation are as follows: learners
attitudes towards the materials, learner attitudes towards the method of instruction, learner
attitudes towards their experience with instruction, improvement in being able to successfully
seek, analyze and ethically use information found online, improvement in being able to
successfully support their thoughts, and ideas with ethically cited sources.
