Do you know (1) Photosynthesis ? photosynthesis is the process of

converting light energy to chemical energy and storing it in the bonds of (2) sugar.
Plants make their own food using the energy in sunlight in a process called
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis has an (3) important role on the earth. Without
plants and photosynthesis, there would be no oxygen gas in the earth’s (4)
atmosphere

Well, plants, like animals, need oxygen to (5) released energy from their
food. At night plants take in oxygen an (6) give off carbon dioxide. As the sun rises,
the process of photosynthesis begins. During the day the plants take in carbon
dioxide, water and sunlight. The plant uses the (7) energy from sunlight to split
water into hydrogen and oxygen, and carbon dioxide into carbon and oxygen. The
carbon, hydrogen, and some of the (8) oxygen then join to make a type of sugar
called glucose, and the left over oxygen is released. The glucose is carried around
the plant. Some (9) glucose is used for energy and to help the plant grow. The
glucose that is not used is joined together to make starch and stored for (10) later
use.
B. Answer the questions based on the text in task A for ?

Reading

There are over 2500 different (1) species of mosquitoes throughout the
world. Each of the species has a latin scientific name. These names are used in a
descriptive manner so the (2) name tells something about the particular mosquito.

The mosquito goes through four separate and distinct stages of its (3) life
cycle and they are as follows : egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Each of these (4) stages
can be easily recognize by their special appearance. Egg : eggs are laid one at a
time and they float on the surface of the water. In the case of culex and culiseta
species, the eggs are stuck together in rafts of a hundred or more eggs. Anopheles
and aedes species do not make egg rafts but (5) lay their eggs separately. Culex,
culiseta and anopheles lay their eggs on water while aedes lay their eggs on (6)
damp soil that will be flooded by water. Most eggs hatch into larvae within 48
hours. Larva : the larvae live in the water and come to the surface to breathe. They
shed their skin four times growing larger after each molting. Most larvae have
siphon tubes for (7) breathing and hang from the water surface. Anopheles larvae
do not have a siphon and they lay parallel to the water surface. The larva feed on
micro-organisms and organic matter in the water. On the fourth molt the larva (8)
changes into a pupa. Pupa : the pupa stage is a resting, non-feeding stage. This is
the time the mosquito turns into an adult. It takes about two days before the adult is
fully developed. When the development is complete, the pupa skin splits and the
mosquito (9) emerges as an adult. Adult : the newly emerged adult rests on the
surface of the water for a short time to allow itself to dry and all its parts to harden.
Also, the (10) wings have to spread out and dry properly before it can fly.

Seasons come to us regularly. We have probably noticed that it gets warmer
in summer or dry season while it gets colder in the winter or wet season. However,
do you know how these seasons change ?

Seasons happen and change every year. This happens because the earth tilts
back and forth as it goes around the sun. During the summer, the earth tilts toward
the sun. it makes half of the earth hotter. This condition is what we call summer.
During the half of the year, the earth tilts away from the sun. As a result, it makes
that halfof the earth cooler. This cool condition is then what we call winter.

The different parts of the world have the same season at different times. In
the the northern half of the world, winter happens during the months of december,
january, and february. The regions are such north america and europe. On the other
hand, the southern half of the world has winter during the months of june, july, and
august. The regions are like south america nad australia. How does this difference
happen ? the same season happens at different times because the top and bottom
halves of the earth tilt awaybfrom the sun at different times.

What Causes Acne?

Contrary to what you may have heard, acne is not caused by (1) dirty skin, eating chocolate, or
drinking lots of soda. Acne is caused by overactive oil glands in the skin and an accumulation of
(2) oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria, which leads to inflammation in pores.

Oil glands become stimulated when hormones become active during (3) puberty, which is why
people are likely to get acne in their teens. Because the tendency to (4) develop acne is partly
genetic, if other people in your family had (or have) acne, you may be more (5) likely to develop
it too.
