CHAPTER 1
PREFACE

1.1. Background
Well test Analysis on gas well included in the fields of reservoir engineering.
Important information obtained from well test data, among others, transient flow and
pressure regarding the State of the reservoir are in-situ. As a Reservoir Engineer,
must know about the reservoir or the State of wells and their characteristics – its
characteristics (including pressure) which is then used as a reference for analyzing the
performance of the reservoir and perform forecasting production in the future. For a
Production Engineer must know about the condition of the well production or
injection wells in order to know the best state of a reservoir that is manufactured.
Pressure is the most important data for Reservoir Engineering. We realize the
pressure always necessary in any calculation that is done. Therefore, the expected
results from the calculation of the committed approach or even represent the real
circumstances of a reservoir. In General, the analysis of well test of gas wells has a
purpose:
1. To obtain the parameters – parameters of a reservoir.
2. To determine the well deliverability.
3. To determine whether the whole of the gas wells that have been drilled is a
production zone.
4. To determine factors such as skin or damage after doing the drilling and
completion in the gas wells. Based on the magnitude of the damage, we can
determine the stimulation will do.

1.2. Problem Identification

There are several problems that will discuss:
1. Reason the well testing do.
2. Procedure of well testing.
3. Affects of reservoir characteristics to field performance
4. When well testing do.
5. Recovery Factor before and after well testing.
6. Affects of field properties to amount of gas or condensate that have been
produced.
7. Affects of field properties to age of production well.

1.3. Purpose of Final Project

The purposes of Thesis Writing are:

1.4. Benefit
Known field performance from production well. If we knew the field
performance, we can determine the perfect treatment for that well.

1.5. Framework
Chapter I Preface: Background, Problems Identification, Purpose, Benefit,
Framework, Location, Time from the Final Project.
Chapter II Method of Thesis Writing: Objects, Study Literature, Methods.
Chapter III Closing: All explanation about thesis starting from Chapter I until
Chapter II.
1.6. Problems Constraints
Assumptions:
1. Well that produced wet gas.
2. Use Conventional Modified Isochronal Test.
3. The Drive mechanism is gas cap drive or combination drive.
4. Reservoir system is wet gas.

1.7. Location and Time

The Thesis Writing used the primary and secondary data from PT. Pertamina
Asset 5 Balikpapan on field D, East Kalimantan. This activity will start from 18th
June 2018 –18th August 2018.
CHAPTER II
METHOD OF THESIS WRITING
This chapter will describe about methods that will be used and steps for
simulation reservoir models during final project.
(*) Writing Method will adapt with agreement and requirement from PT.
Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan.

2.1. Methods
There are two methods, Descript Method and Analysis Method.
2.1.1. Descript Method
The descriptive method is a method of research in which the goal is to
have insights into things or events that are going on and are being faced. The
descriptive method was used to describe the phenomena or populations
examined. The descriptive method is the first step in getting an insight into the
condition of the data and the problem. It can therefore be used in the thesis
writing are:
a. Case Study Method
A case study is a research method to find out the circumstances of
the subject's research on the steps what to do when doing well test
and know the performance of a well.
b. Literature Study
This method is using references from previous publications on the
theme of research. The author uses books, scientific journals,
reports, and the internet.
2.2. Stage
There are five stages to writing the thesis, preparation, collecting data, data
analysis, data processing with software, final report.
2.2.1. Preparation
Preparation including the issue of findings, the desk study of geology,
regional publications, the basic concept of well testing and steps for doing a
thesis. After the authors determine the problem, one would restrict the issue.
This proposal is a step further to implement the proposed campus and request
validation. After that, the authors apply the proposal to the company and
prepare all the supporting publications to help in writing a thesis.

2.2.2. Collecting Data

The data collection phase is where writers gather data in the details
from the field D which is managed by PT. Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan.
Next analysis will be based on data owned by PT. Pertamina Asset 5
Balikpapan. Data collection is further divided into the primary data
collection and secondary data. Primary data are taken from PT. Pertamina
Asset 5 Balikpapan, next analysis will be based to obtain the data required by
the author to write a thesis. Secondary data is the result of the primary data
analysis with PT. Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan to write a final project
report.

2.2.3. Final Report

The final steps on the writing thesis is the writing of the final report. This
stage is divided into two phases:
a. Thesis that given for the Engineer or Supervisor from PT. Pertamina
Asset 5 Balikpapan that has been previously selected by the company
who gave the advice and guidance.
b. Thesis that given for Petroleum Engineering Major at STT MIGAS
Balikpapan. Author of a thesis under the guidance and advice of a
lecturer at STT MIGAS Balikpapan.
CHAPTER III
PLAN OF THESIS WRITING

3.1. Activity
Activities that we want to do later is to know in detail the stages of analysis of
well test conducted in field that managed by PT. Pertamina Asset 5
Balikpapan.

3.2. Location
For the focus of activities to do is include the existing activities in the
Reservoir, Production Department, Operation Department and related fields
in PT. Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan.

3.3. Time
We expect this final project may take more or less for 2 months and was
expected to be held on 18th June 2018 – 18th August 2018. I hope the
management of PT. Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan in order to receive this
request.

3.4. Schedule Inquiry

1. General Orientation (History and general management from the company)
2. First Orientation (concept comprehension, analysis, and well testing
data’s presentation)
3. Second Orientation (concept comprehension, analysis, and presentation
about field operation)
4. Third Orientation (concept comprehension, analysis, and presentation
about process of preparation the data)
5. Make report and tasks.
6. Presentation in front of field lecturer and team.

3.5. Time Table

The timetables for final project are:

CHAPTER IV
CLOSING

Thus the final project activity proposal that will made on PT. Pertamina
Asset 5 Balikpapan. I hope this proposal has a good ovation from the company.
Because of limitations that I have, I hope I get help and support from the company to
finish the final project.
Gratefully to PT. Pertamina Asset 5 Balikpapan which has given me the
opportunity to submit a proposal to final project. May God Almighty always give
blessings and mercy so these activities can be run smoothly and provide benefits for
both of us.
