Uses

Cemtop 250T provides a self levelling cementitious underlay This provides an ideal fairing material for levelling uneven, in
for a wide variety of floor finishes e.g. tiles, carpeting, vinyl situ, or pre-cast concrete floors. For economy, when
sheeting, linoleum, rubber and other sheet flooring which thicknesses greater than 10 mm are required, washed and
require a smooth level substrate. dried concrete sand (e.g. BS882 1983 Grade M) can be
added in equal proportions. It must be noted however that if
sand is added the product is of a trowellable consistency and

Instruction for use
Preparation
The substrate should be clean, sound and free from loose
material and contamination such as plaster, oil, paint and
grease.
New concrete should be at least 14 days old.
Excess laitence should be removed by light scabbling
blasting or etching with 1:1 diluted Fosroc Acid Etch followed
by washing and vacuuming to remove dust debris. Light oil
and grease staining can be removed with Fosroc Chemical
Degreaser again followed by washing with clean water.
Large cracks and holes may be filled using a mix consisting
of equal volumes of Cemtop 250T and clean sharp sand
made up to a trowellable mortar by the addition of a small
amount of water. Prime the substrate with a 1:1 water
Cebond mixture prior to the repair.
Priming
The object of priming is to seal the substrate to prevent air
release from the sub-floor rising and forming bubbles and
pinholes on the surface of the Cemtop 250T. Extremely
porous substrates may require two priming/sealing coats. In
this case allow drying before application of the second coat.
The priming coat consists of a 1:1 water/Cebond mix which is
brushed onto the substrate with a stiff brush and allowed to
dry before application of Cemtop 250T. In areas subject to
water ingress, the floor should be primed with undiluted
Nitobond AR.
Mixing
Cemtop 250T should be mixed in a forced action mechanical
mixer or by a heavy duty drill fitted with a purpose made
paddle.
Each 25 kg bag of Cemtop 250T requires the addition of 6.5
litres of cool, clean water to produce a free flowing self
levelling consistency.
Best results are obtained by following this simple mixing
procedure.
a) Pour 2/3 of the mixing water into the mixing vessel.
b) Slowly add the 25 kg of Cemtop 250T, whilst
continuously mixing, until a smooth consistency is
obtained. Mix for a minimum of three minutes.
c) Slowly add the remaining 1/3 water mixing
throughout to obtain a smooth, self levelling,
pourable mix.
Do not mix more Cemtop 250T than can be reasonably laid
o
within the flow time of the material i.e. 10 minutes at 35 C
(see properties). However, ensure that subsequent mixes
are ready, to enable continuous pouring until the whole area
to be surfaced is complete.

For thicknesses over 10 mm, Cemtop 250T can be filled out
with clean sharp sand (e.g. BS882-1983 Grade M) or use
sand supplied by Fosroc which is especially graded for the
purpose (as for Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains No. 2). Equal
weights of sand and Cemtop 250T should be used. Extra
water is not necessary i.e. 6.5 litres of cool clean water
should be used to produce an easily trowellable mix.
Application
Pour the mixed material onto the primed substrate, spread
with a trowel or squeegee and allow to self level. Do not
attempt to float the setting surface.
If high spots or splashes occur these can be pared off with
the edge of a trowel after initial set.
The required thickness must be achieved in one application.
Also the best results are achieved when the pouring and
levelling is a continuous process until the designated area is
completely levelled.
Good site organisation is essential.
Sand filled Cemtop 250T screeds must be laid by trowel in
one layer also.
Note
If a mix stiffens it should be discarded. Do not attempt to

remix with water. Do not use below 5 C.
On grade slabs must have a damp proof membrane in the
sub-floor. Any under-floor heating must be switched off and
the floor allowed to cool before applying Cemtop 250T.
Cemtop 250T should be protected from direct sunlight and,
or strong drying winds until the material is hard (2-4 hours).
Floor Covering / Adhesive choice
Fosroc internationally have an excellent range of floor
covering adhesives suitable for most types of carpets, vinyls
and other contract floor coverings. These adhesives include
the Herfering, Shure Stik and Fosfix range of products.
Contact your local Fosroc office for further details on these
materials.
Non moisture sensitive adhesives can be applied
immediately the surface accepts foot traffic. Other types
should not be applied until 18-24 hours have elapsed since
the Cemtop 250T has been laid.
Cleaning
All tools and equipment should be cleaned with water.

Precautions

Health and safety

Cemtop 250T is non toxic but is mildly alkaline. Gloves

should be worn during use. Splashes to the skin should be
washed with clean water. Accidental splashes to the eyes
should also be washed with water but should prolonged
irritation occur medical advice should be sought.
