SELECTION OF WATER - CEMENT RATION:-

From Table 5 of IS456:2000, Maximum water -cement ratio for Very se= 0.40

Based on exprerince, adopt water- cement ratio is = 0.35

SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT:-

From table 2, maximum water content for 2omm aggregate for for 25
to 50mm slup range = 165.00 litres

Estimated water content for workability = 196.00 litres

AS Superplasticizer is used, the water content can be reduced up to 20 percent and above

Based on trials with superplasticizer water content reduction of 29

percent has been achieved = 20.00 percent

Estimated Water content for 50-100 mm Slump = 157.00 litres

Hence , the arrived water content = 157.00 litres

CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT:-

Water - cement ratio = 0.35

Cement content = water content/WC ratio

= 449.00 Kg/Cum

30% Fly ash is consisting in PPC cement hence incease of 10%

cementitious material content = 494.00 Kg/Cum
From Table 5 of IS 456:2000, Minimum cement content for " Severe"
exposure condition = 320.00 Kg/Cum

395kg/Cum > 320kg/Cum OK

Hence , the arrived water content = 172.90 litres
PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT:-

From table3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size

aggregate and fine aggregate ( Zone -III) for water-cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.64

In the present case water- cement ratio is = 0.35

Therefore, Volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to

decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water-cement ratio is
lower by = 0.15

The proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is increased by (at the

rateof 0.01 for every 0.05 change in water cement ratio) = 0.03

Therefore , corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the

water cement ratio = 0.67

For pumpable concrete these values should be reduced by = 10.00 percent

Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate = 0.60

Volume of Fine aggregate content = 0.40

MIX CALCULATIONS:-

The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows

a) Volume of concrete = 1.00 Cum

b) Volume of cement = (Mass of cement / Specific gravity of cement)

X 1/1000 = 0.167 Cum

c) Volume of water = (Mass of water / Specific gravity of water) X

1/1000 = 0.173 Cum

d) Volume of Chemical admixture = (Mass of admixture / Specific

gravity of admixture) X 1/1000 = 0.000 Cum
e) Volume of all in aggregate=(Vol. concrete- cement- water-
admixture) = 0.660 Cum

f) Mass of coarse aggregate=(e X Volume of coarse aggregate X

Specific gravity X 1000 ) = 1047 Kgs

g)Mass of fine aggregate=(e X Volume of fine aggregate X Specific

gravity X 1000 ) = 731 Kgs

h) Water absorption of coarse aggregate 10mm : 0.5 %
i) Water absorption of fine aggregate : 1%
Fine aggregagte (Conforming grading zone II of table of IS
j) 383) :

Target strength for mix proportioning

f'ck = fck+ 1.65s

Where
f'ck = Target average compressive strength at 28days

fck = Characteristics compressive strength at 28days

s = Standard deviation = 4

Therefore, The target strength

= 20+1.65*4.00
= 26.6 N/mm²

SELECTION OF WATER - CEMENT RATION:-

From Table 5 of IS456:2000, Maximum water -cement ratio for Very se= 0.50

Based on exprerince, adopt water- cement ratio is = 0.50

SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT:-

From table 2, maximum water content for 20mm aggregate for for 25
to 50mm slup range = 186.00 litres

Estimated water content for workability = 197.00 litres

AS Superplasticizer is used, the water content can be reduced up to 20 percent and above

Based on trials with superplasticizer water content reduction of 29

percent has been achieved = 20.00 percent

Estimated Water content for 50-100 mm Slump = 158.00 litres

Hence , the arrived water content = 158.00 litres

CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT:-

Water - cement ratio = 0.50

Cement content = water content/WC ratio

= 316.00 Kg/Cum

30% Fly ash is consisting in PPC cement hence incease of 10%

cementitious material content = 348.00 Kg/Cum
From Table 5 of IS 456:2000, Minimum cement content for " Severe"
exposure condition = 320.00 Kg/Cum

316kg/Cum > 320kg/Cum OK

Hence , the arrived water content = 174.00 litres
PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT:-

From table3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size

aggregate and fine aggregate ( Zone -III) for water-cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.64

In the present case water- cement ratio is = 0.50

Therefore, Volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to

decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water-cement ratio is
lower by = 0.00

The proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is increased by (at the

rateof 0.01 for every 0.05 change in water cement ratio) = 0.00

Therefore , corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the

water cement ratio = 0.64

For pumpable concrete these values should be reduced by = 10.00 percent

Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate = 0.58

Volume of Fine aggregate content = 0.42

MIX CALCULATIONS:-

The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows

a) Volume of concrete = 1.00 Cum

b) Volume of cement = (Mass of cement / Specific gravity of cement)

X 1/1000 = 0.118 Cum

c) Volume of water = (Mass of water / Specific gravity of water) X

1/1000 = 0.174 Cum

d) Volume of Chemical admixture = (Mass of admixture / Specific

gravity of admixture) X 1/1000 = 0.000 Cum
e) Volume of all in aggregate=(Vol. concrete- cement- water-
admixture) = 0.708 Cum

f) Mass of coarse aggregate=(e X Volume of coarse aggregate X

Specific gravity X 1000 ) = 1073 Kgs

g)Mass of fine aggregate=(e X Volume of fine aggregate X Specific

gravity X 1000 ) = 838 Kgs

MIX PROPORTION FOR TRIAL:-

Cement = 348 Kgs
Water = 174 Kgs
Fine aggregate = 838 Kgs
Coarse aggregate = 1073 Kgs
Chemical admixture = 0 Kgs
Water - cement ratio = 0.50
