IMPORTANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PHYSICAL DISTRIBUTION

After a series of serious setbacks due to a poor command of transport and its related operations, the
need was felt to study the means leading to better security, this is where the International Physical
Distribution, known by its initials DFI, is the process that takes place around placing a product in
the international market, complying with the terms negotiated between the seller and the buyer. Its
main objective is to reduce to the maximum the times, costs and risk that may be generated during
the journey, from the point of departure at origin to the point of delivery at destination.

"The different parts that make up Colombian foreign trade must adopt the mechanism known as
International Physical Distribution (DFI) to face the challenges of the internationalization of the
economy, according to the consultant Hernando Arciniegas. The DFI is made up of the operations
carried out to transport the merchandise from the point of origin to its final destination, with which
it is sought to save production costs and make a delivery to consumers in the shortest time possible.
"This system deals with everything related to the movement of the product from the producer to the
end user, including the stages corresponding to regional deposits or terminals and / or channels.
Among the success factors that we can mention in the operations of international business, we
include competitiveness, financial support between the parties and logistics and the international
physical distribution of goods. This last aspect is of great importance since when the involved actors
are in different countries, the concretion and the success of the business are complicated even more.
For this it is important that in any international business operation, particularly in international
trade, participate a series of companies whose logistics services will be necessary to provide and
finally, exporter and importer obtain what they really expect product of the transaction they have
made. The seller: the payment for the goods or services that he has delivered to his importing client
and the latter receiving the goods for which he has made the corresponding payment. Likewise, it is
important for entrepreneurs to know the international environment that surrounds them. The
international business then involves the management of foreign investment and the structure of
markets, which is established between different nations.

Within this framework, it is essential that the company has full knowledge of the political,
economic, social, cultural situation, the diversity of markets and risks of the country with which the
business is established; in this way it will be determined if this situation affects him or not and if it
is necessary to engage or not the commercial contact.

With the DFI, it is finally desired, exporter and importer to obtain what they really expect product
of the transaction they have made. The seller: the payment for the goods or services that he has
delivered to his importing client and the latter receiving the goods for which he has made the
corresponding payment. The companies will obtain a series of benefits that can be summarized in
the following: The company obtains a greater competitive positioning; improves the image of the
company and the brand; allows a rapid exploitation of innovations; it implies an expansion of the
internal market; It allows the development of economies of scale and boosts the relationship and
credibility with local partners. In short, whatever the international business modality that the
company carries out, it will contribute to the gradual and progressive process of internationalization
of companies and their growth and, therefore, to the development and progress of the countries that
promote said activities.
