Pheonix Air (enrichment trip)

Pheonix Air

Pheonix Air is the only airport capable of transporting Ebola patients in the United States

and they operate worldwide flights for U.S. officials. I had the opportunity to see one of the first

methods of transporting Ebola patients, the Ebola Chamber. The Chamber has multiple layers of

plastic with 2 filters attached and 2 rooms, one room for the doctor and the room for the patient.

It also requires one person to stay outside while the paramedic periodically checks the patient.

Sometimes the paramedic will give a patient a walkie talkie so the paramedic doesn’t have to

change their suits, as the suit changes can last up to 22 minutes each. The newest one they have

is the “Box”, it comes with multiple ventilators and 3 to 4 rooms. It also comes with a storage

area, medical equipment, toilets, and a room for the doctors. This is all inside of a metal box that

weighs tons and can fit up to 4 people each, right now there are only 2 fully made but 2 more are

being made asap. This trip has extended my knowledge on Ebola and add to my understanding

the work that goes into the making of the chambers.
