BC Hydro’s Supply Chain function is integral to keeping the business running and the lights on.
Materials Management provides materials at the right place and time, leveraging the expertise of
people, processes, and technology to meet business requirements. Services include inventory
forecasting and planning, material distribution and transportation, field warehouse operations and
waste transformer oil management. Fleet Services is responsible for the acquisition and provision of
fleet equipment and vehicles, maintenance and related services that meet the needs of customers
across BC Hydro.

Reporting to the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Director, Fleet Services and Materials Management
will be a key member of the Supply Chain Leadership Team, accountable for leading the strategic
direction and operations of the Fleet Services and Materials Management functions.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

* Oversees the strategic, operations, financial, and administrative functions for Fleet Services and
Materials Management, who are located across the province
* Leads the development of a business strategy to integrate Fleet Services and Materials
Management utilizing collaborative approach – ensures key priorities are communicated, leads the
development of performance metrics and manages overall budget
* Plans, develops and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement
* Provides overall strategy to achieve objectives, overseeing the development of processes,
standards, procedures
* Ensures alignment and contributes to the achievement of key business objectives e.g. Supply
Chain Applications project, Category Management processes, Telematics
* Champions safety leadership and performance at all levels
* Drives safety culture for the business unit and vehicle safety for the corporation
* Ensures safe work practices are embedded in all activities and recognition is provided for safe
work performance and interventions to prevent serious injuries and lost time incidents
* Works with senior leaders across BC Hydro, particularly with Operations leadership, to ensure

alignment and integration on strategy and solutions
* Assesses major risks and opportunities and recommends/implements risk mitigation strategies
* Ensures business continuity during capital project work at Materials Management
* Maintains strong relationships with suppliers, internal customers and unions
* Leads employee engagement activities, provides clear feedback and recognition
* Promotes collaboration, performance and career development
* Keeps abreast on emerging best practices for fleet/supply chain/equipment standards/
environment.

Qualifications:

* A university degree, diploma or a professional designation in Business, or a related field


including management courses in business, finance, organizational design, change management,
and previous experience in a senior leadership position working within a unionized environment;
* MBA and/ or CPA would be considered an asset
* A proven track record of successfully building, leading and managing large, diverse teams and
complex business requirements involving multiple stakeholders
* A minimum of ten (10) years progressive leadership experience in a unionized electric utility,
manufacturing or industrial environment
* Experience in logistics, warehousing and/or garages would be an asset
* Exceptional communication, facilitation, negotiation, presentation and interpersonal skills
* Strong business acumen and knowledge in all aspects of managing a business unit including
finance, planning, safety, human resources, change management, risk management and
performance management
* Ability to establish a high level of rapport and communicate effectively with people in a variety of
roles, e.g. Board members, executives, technical staff, trades people
* Strong relationship management and influential ability to build an effective network of business
contacts internal and external to BC Hydro to drive business results
* Ability to promote employee development at an individual and organizational level by
establishing clear expectations, providing feedback and having difficult conversations
* Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

* The successful candidate will demonstrate strong safety orientation

* The position may be located at Surrey Garage or Surrey Store. There will be meetings at
Dunsmuir and Edmonds as required (about one day per week). Travel is also required periodically
across the province to the various field offices and as issues emerge throughout the year.
