Boundary Oak Golf Course
"A three star rating by golf digest
and the lowest green fee structure
of any three star golf course in
Northern California," this is what I
have been trying to achieve for the
past twenty years. I could not be
more proud of our facility and our
staff. It is unfortunate that indi-
vidual agendas have surfaced in
the media. The only response that
I can make is that our facility and
staff speak for themselves, and we
appreciate your support.
We will be starting our tee level-
ing in February, which will
include 80,000 square feet of tee
area, 13,000 square feet of
drainage in our bunkers and an
8300 square foot championship
putting green to be installed at the
driving range, at a total cost of
$164,930. The contract was given
to Roger Larson Inc., saving the
City over $80,417. My staff and I
will be supervising the installation
in the same manner we supervised
the irrigation and cart path project.

The savings to the City is in the
form of reduction of administra-
tive costs (25 to 30%), resulting in
a total saving of over $450,000 on
all these projects. This money
will be put back into the course.
This is one of the reasons we have
a three star course with a green fee
structure half that of comparable
courses.
The brown areas that you see in
our fairways and around the
greens are kukuyu grass that has
gone dormant due to frost. It is
very playable but ugly. We will be
verti-cutting our kukuyu and
arresting its growth to a limited
degree in 1999. We will be spray-
ing areas around the green and
reseeding with bent for a smoother
chipping surface.

Senior Tour I didn't realize why
the stars didn't go out for dinner at

quickly found out when dining
with Arnold Palmer. The people
not only requested autographs, but
they also freely asked every ques-
tion you could imagine. As soon
as a star steps out of his hotel
room he is on stage and he'd better
be cordial and friendly to everyone
that greets him. David Duvall is a
perfect example of an unrecogniz-
able star that could blend in almost
