Objectives Promote students’ creative self-expression by linking it to the upcoming Candle
Day. Improve students’ knowledge about Candle Day. Develop students’ skills
to use search engine.
Students will develop:

• White sheet of paper

• Skills related to searching, reading and analyzing information

• Creative and critical thought to continue text written by classmate
• The skills of cooperation
Students will identify:

• Information in the text


• Information of the previous writer and respond creatively to text
written by previous student
• The rules for the cooperation

Procedure

Step 1: At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher informs the pupils about what they
will do during the lesson. Teacher asks questions:
"Do you know what month follows January?"
"Do you know how February is called?"
The teacher tells that February is called the month of candles, the ancient
Latvians celebrated the Candle Day on February 2.

Step 2: Students are asked to find the poem “Candle ball” in the Internet by using
search engine and read the poem http://www.zvaigzne.lv/upload/06-

Students are asked to find question sentences in the poem and answer these
questions.

Step 3: The teacher informs students that they will play the role of writer this lesson.
The teacher randomly divides students into 5 groups, 5 pupils in each group.
Criteria are written on the board, according to which each group has to write
their own fairy tale "Candle Ball".

Step 4: Students agree among themselves who will be the writer No.1, No.2, No.3,
No.4, No.5.
Writer No.1 writes 1 min, no.2 -1.5 min, no.3 - 2.5 min, no.4 - 3.5 min, no.5 -4.5 min
The fairy tale is ready when all 5 "writers" have written their part. When a fairy
tale is written, each group reads it.

Step 5: The teacher informs that the fairy tale should now be illustrated. Each student
in the group has 1 minit to draw illustration.

The teacher observes the pupils' cooperation skills.

The teacher invites students of each group to present their performance. Listen
to others and check if all the criteria are completed.
