Anschreiben Dear Sir/Madam, Please allow us to introduce you to the German “Famulatur”. It has no counterpart in the US medical system. It is not equivalent to what is known as a clerkship or an elective in your medical educational system. It consists of a minimal one month (30 days) visitation by a German medical student to a hospital with the purpose of acquainting her or him with the daily routine of a hospital. It is performed by each student during the clinical years of study (which are the 3rd to the 5th years of a 6 year program). The specifi c aim of this visitation is to give the ongoing medical student insight into the daily duties of the physician in a hospital. The participation of the visiting student in this routine may consist of including her/him in medical history talking, observing physical examinations, and participating in the discussion of case histories of the patient on a ward. Listening in on staff discussions of patients X rays, CT´s and other clinical fi ndings and the resulting patient management will help to emphasize the essentials and pertinent aspects of patient care to the students and will help in orienting their further medical studies. Since this is not a formal university course, it can be performed in ANY hospital possessing at least 30 beds. Indeed it is sometimes preferable that students become aware of the routine in a hospital outside of a university setting. Thus, your hospital can accept such an application you should be willing to take on a medical student for a short trainee period. The student will not be expected to receive any type of remuneration in the form of a salary for this period. She/he is expected to cover all expenses that arise in connection with travel and accommodation. It is hoped that the student may also be of some service to your facilities. Looking forward to your answer at your earliest convenience we remain With best regards, Bewerbung Eine allgemeine Bewerbung mit kurzer Erläuterung unseres Anliegens sollte man dazulegen (Achtung: Dieser Text ist für zwei Studenten aufgesetzt): Dear Sirs, We are two medical students studying in the fourth year (our third clinical semester) of a six year program at the [Name Eurer Universität]- University, [Stadt], Germany. In partial fulfi lment of the requirement for our medical degree, a hospital visitation must be performed in a clinic or by a private practitioner. The minimum required time for such a stay is one full month (30 days). Therefore, we would like to ask if there is any possibility for us to work in your clinic from [Datum Beginn der Famulatur] to [Datum Ende der Famulatur]. During this time it is the purpose to acquaint the student with the medical milieu in general and the specifi cs of the department or ward in which she or he is working, including learning basic medical skills. This traineeship is called a “Famulatur” and is not equivalent to a university medical clerkship, internship or an elective. It is exclusive to our medical education in Germany. Thus, this can be performed in small hospitals not necessarily associated with a university. We are very interested in obtaining information concerning the possibility of visiting your hospital (practice/clinic) for this pur- pose. We would greatly appreciate any further information you could send us. For your information we have enclosed lists of our personal data and curriculum vitaes of our completed medical studies. We have enclosed a short description of the requirements for our “Famulatur” to give you a better idea of its aims and purposes. Should you require any additional information please inform us at your convenience. Thank you for your kind consideration in this matter. We would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Please note that we will carry all costs of travel and accommodation ourselves and do not expect any form of salary. With best regards.
