Introduction
The mini steam car project is an important part of the Thermodynamics course, student
will design and fabricate a lightweight and low-cost mini steam car having an elegance
appearance finish. The purpose of this paper is to provide some details about the mini steam car
project and to report results of its implementation in a thermodynamic courses. As students must
learn to make the best out of a given energy cycle by combining their knowledge of heat transfer,
thermal systems, and fundamental design. For the car to work, let alone accomplish the fastest
speed and long distance, various aspects of design beyond the scope of thermodynamics must be
taken into consideration: gear ratios, chassis design, material selection, and stresses acting on the
vehicle are amongst the crucial factors to consider for the successful completion of the car. Key
factors of these various projects are the level of technology and complexity, funding, and time
requirements. The micro steam car project does not require sophisticated instrumentation and
relies on basic engineering principles of energy conversion.
Objectives
To apply the thermodynamics concepts by design and develop thermodynamics project.
To explain the concepts of thermodynamics.
To develop communication skills through team interaction to complete a design project
utilizing thermodynamics.
To develop both creative and critical thinking skills
Scope
Design and make a small steam car.
Transfer the fluid to steam by heating.
Use the steam and convert it to kinetic energy to make the car moving.
Measure the heat, pressure and velocity.
Solid work software will be used to design the parts.
