ASSESSMENT STATEMENT

Jennifer is need help in sustaining the needs of her family such as providing foods, buying

medicine for her sick child and sending her children to school. In addition to that, Aling Jennifer,

has a tuberculosis, after a years of having no medical check up and being confused of her health

condition, in a way that she has no idea of her coughing and she only considered it as asthma. But

suddenly, during her medical check up at JR Borja hospitall and her X-ray test was resulted into

PTB.

Aling Jennifer, is having a hard time in sustaining their daily needs due to lack of formal

education and lack of employment skills. Furthermore, Aling Jennifer’s husband is only a candle

vendor who earns 150 a day and it is not sufficiently enough to sustain the family’s basic needs.

All of their children are attending in school and it hurts her whenever her children was not able to

attend school. On the part of Jennifer, there are times when she feels useless because she isn’t have

an avenue to support Renato in augmenting their family income. Sometimes their children cannot

go to school due to lack of money. They cannot be provided of school allowance and their fare on

their way to school. They sometimes skip their meals also. As for Jennifer, she feels so pity to the

situation of her family. It is hard for them to cover their daily basic needs. Another factor also to

Aling Jennifer problem’s with the family, is when her eldest son left his daughter to Aling Jennifer

and was the only one who raised the child carrying all the responsibilities and expenses that was

supposed to be her son’s responsibility. Morever, Jennifer’s eldest daughter Dian from her first

husband is always helping her mother Jennifer when she face financial problem. Dian has the skills

of cooking also. She sometimes selling viands outside of her house and it is good for her because

she sometimes help her mother financially. The family’s current life situation can be anchored on

Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs which claims that when one need is fulfilled, a person
seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. As for the case of Jennifer’s family, food is their top priority

and other physiological needs like medicine and clothing follow. They must satisfy lower level

basic needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs. Also, Systems Theory can

explain Jennifer’s family situation. It claims that every subsystem is interrelated and

interdependent with one another. Due to low family income, Jennifer and her partner Renato

cannot provide some of the needs of their children like the school allowance of their children and

even medicines.

The client, Nanay Jennifer, has tuberculosis. During the actual interview, Nanay

Jennifer has no idea if she has a tuberculosis because due to financial constraints she did not check

up her health condition in a medical doctor for more than a years now. The client, Jennifer, depend

only to the medicines given from the Barangay Health Center when she is sick. Last October 22,

2018, the client, Jennifer and the Social work intern went to JR. Borja General Hospital for her

medical check up. In addition, Jennifer undergone X-ray test and as a result of her X-ray test it

was identified that she has a tuberculosis. The client, Jennifer, really felt sad that she has a

tuberculosis. She did not expect that she will have that kind of disease. She was thinking it first

that it is an asthma. As part of the feeling of Jennifer, she really scared to tell to her family about

of her condition right now. In addition, As what the nurse said in the said hospital, tuberculosis is

transferable. The client, Nanay Jennifer, must be aware always of her moves especially when she

communicate or talk to her children and husband.

Despite her current family situation, Jennifer has the desire and deep motivation to

create positive changes in her family. She expressed that there is always a hope from God. She

always pray that they will surpass this problem by the help of God. That is why she is willing to

participate in any activities that can help her in augmenting the family income. She has the skills
for cooking she want to learn more about cooking. Furthermore, she believes that there is always

a hope and that their strong faith to the Creator will be their ultimate weapon in facing life’s

challenges.
