CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEMS AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Travel and Tours is one of the tourism industries that provide the need of

the travelers or tourists. They could also know or get information from different

tourist destinations here in Ubay.

This study will help introduce, develop and improve tourist attractions in

Ubay for the tourist: Ubay is one of the progressive towns in the province of

Bohol. And there are some attractions which are not yet developed. And we

present to you our proposed establishment M&E Travel and Tour Agency.

The M&E Travel and Tour were aimed to provide satisfaction guarantee

for the need of the travelers or tourists. Our establishment will help tourism

industry in Ubay through introducing different tourist attractions, provide

informations and accept the needs of the travelers or tourist who wanted our

full attention, personal or through contacts.

6

Theoretical Background

Theory. Travel and Tours could help our town of Ubay become well

known and improve our tourism industry by providing the needs and

informations to the tourist who wanted to visit the tourist attractions we offer

to them. At present, we have already seaport, lodging, restaurant and airport

which are yet to improve. But, through the help of our government, tourism

industry and some agencies like Travel and Tours, it could be successfully

done and developed as well. Through this agency, we can offer a complete

services needed by the travelers. And also, they can easily get information here,

rather than going to another place looking for the agency they wanted to

inquire.

Legal Basis. This study was anchored in Section 1 of Republic Act No.

710 – and act granting a charter to the Philippine Tourist and Travel

Association, Incorporated, for the development and promotion of the Philippine

tourist industry.

There is hereby created in the Republic of the Philippines a body

corporate and politic, to be the voluntary organization officially designated to

assist the Republic of the Philippines in the development and promotion of the

tourist industry; develop and publicize Philippine tourist attraction and

opportunities for the world at large.

7

THEORY. Travel and Tour’s could help our town Ubay become well known and
improve our tourism industry by giving need and information’s to the tourist.

LEGAL BASIS There is hereby created in the

Republic Act No. 710, Republic of the Philippines a body
Section 1 corporate and politic, to be the
voluntary organization officially

the Philippines in the development
and promotion of the tourist
industry; to develop and publicize

A travel agency’s main function is to act as an agent, that is to say, selling

travel products and services on behalf of supplier.

A travel agency is a retail business that sells travel related products such
as airlines, car rentals, cruise lines, hotels, railway, sightseeing tours and
package holidays that combine several products.

There are also travel agencies that serve as general sales agents for foreign
travel companies, allowing them to have office in countries other than where
headquarters are located.

Related Literature

A travel agency’s main function is to act as an agent, that is to say,

selling travel products and services on behalf of a supplier. Consequently,

unlike other retail business, they do not keep a stock in hand. A package

holiday or a ticket is not purchased from a supplier unless a customer request

that purchase.

A travel agency is a retail business that sells travel related products and

services to customers on behalf of suppliers such as airlines, car rentals,

cruise lines, hotels, railways, sightseeing tours and package holidays that

combine several products. In addition to dealing with ordinary tourist most

travel agencies have a separate department devoted to making travel

arrangements for business travelers and some travel specialize in commercial

and business travel only.

As mentioned earlier, there are given distinct function of travel agent

working in the travel agency, most of which are important in order to serve as

guide to the travelers. The tourist industry should be developed and promoted

as a means of presenting to the economic stability and prosperity of our town

and of enhancing the prestige and even relations for the hospitality we shown

to the foreign and local travelers.

The data gathered were collated in table form and interpreted in he light

and purpose of the study. They were analyzed and interpreted through

projection and deduction inferred from the percentages. It was done by

dividing the frequency of responses to every item by the total number of

tourists multiplied by one hundred percent.

Statistical formula used in this study was chi-square.

Respondents and Environment

As reflected in Table 1, the respondents of the study were the travel and

tour in Poblacion, Ubay, Bohol.

Instruments

In order to gather the necessary data for the study, the researcher

utilized a questionnaire developed by them. The first part has something to do

with the profile of the respondents.

solicited so as to improve the tool for final distribution. It was distributed to

the respondents.

respondents during weekdays in their respective lodging houses in the

municipality of Ubay. The instrument was retrieved at once where interview

was also conducted to get additional information.

Analysis of Data

The responses of the data were subjected to statistical formula to obtain

a specific interpretation of the result.

The formula will be:

P = (F/N) 100

Where:

P = percentage

F = frequency of respondents

100 = percent
16

N = no. of respondents
Statistical Treatment

The researcher used chi – square in the statistical treatment with the

following formula:

X2 = ∑ (O – E)
E

Where:

X2 = chi – square

∑ = sum of the squares

O = observed frequency

E = expected frequency
