1. Safety Instruction

 Even if the Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) is not connected to utility


power, the output socket of the UPS may still present 220V output voltage.

 If it is necessary to replace the external battery cord or power cord, please


purchase the original material from the service center or distributor of our
company so as to avoid overheat or spark resulting in fire due to insufficient
capacity.

 Do not let battery or batteries get close to any heating source and do not
incinerate battery or batteries, they may explode.

 Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries, released electrolyte is highly


poisonous and harmful to the skin and eyes.

 Do not short the positive and negative of battery electrode. Otherwise, it may
cause electric shock or fire.

 To avoid the risk of being shocked, please do not attempt to open the case of
the UPS.

 A battery can present a risk of electric shock and high short circuit current.

 Do not plug household appliance such as hair dryers to UPS.

2-1 .Unpack for Inspection
2-1-1-Unpack the UPS. Pay attention to the packing method and accessories which
should include the user's manual, the warranty card, the communication cable
as well as the power cord, and in case of a model featuring long backup time,
it should also include an external battery cord.
2-l-2.In case of any shipping damage occurred or shortage of components, please
do not turn on the UPS and please notify the shipping company and the
distributor.
2-1-3.Please confirm whether it is the model you intend to purchase by performing a
visual inspection of the Model No. on the rear panel of the UPS.

2-2. Notes for Installation


2-2-1 .The UPS must be placed in a location with good ventilation, far away from
water, inflammable gas and corrosive agents.
2-2-2.The UPS should not be tilted. The air inlet port at the lower part of the front
panel and the fan outlet port on the rear panel should not be blocked so as to
ensure good ventilation.

2-2-3.The ambient temperature of UPS should be kept in the range of 0°C to 40°C.
2-2-4.In case if the UPS is unpacked, installed and used at very low temperatures,
condensation of water drops may appear. It is necessary to wait until the UPS
is fully dried inside out before proceeding to installation and use. Otherwise,
there may be a risk of electric shock.
2-2-5.The utility power source outlet which supplies power to the UPS must be near
the UPS and must be easily accessible. To de-energize the UPS in an
emergency, shut off the UPS and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Note:

© Whether the power cord is plugged into the utility power socket or not, electric
current may exist in the output socket of the UPS. Turning off the UPS does not
guarantee that no electric current exists in its internal components. In order to
ensure that no electric current exists in the output socket of the UPS, the UPS
must be turned off first ,then the utility power supply must be suspended.
© For the standard model, charging the battery/or eight hours prior to use is
recommended. Simply connect the power cord between the UPS utility input
receptacle and a nearby utility power outlet, the UPS will charge llic battery
automatically. It can also he used immediately without charging the battery first
but the backup time will be less than the standard level.

© If it is necessary to connect the UPS to the inductance load such as a motor, a


display or a laser printer, the start-up power should be used for calculating the
capacity of the UPS, as its start-up power consumption is too big when it is started.

2-4. Description of "Power On' / 'Power Off' Keys and Indicators on the
Front Panel

 Power On/Off: Press " I " Key on the front panel for 1 second persistently to
turn on the UPS. Press " " Key on the front panel for 1 second to turn off
the UPS.

 Whenever the Utility Power Indicator is turned on, it shows the utility
power supply is normal.

 Whenever the Bypass Indicator is turned on, it shows that the loading
current is suplied directly from utility power.

 Whenever the Inverter Indicator is turned on. it shows that the loading
current is supplied from utility power or battery via the inverter.

 Whenever the Battery Indicator is turned on, it shows that the loading
current is supplied from battery via the inverter.

 Whenever the Fault Indicator is turned on, it shows that fault occur in the
UPS.

2-5. Connection Method of the UPS Input


• If the UPS is connected via the power cord, please use a proper socket with
protection against electric current, and pay attention to the capacity of the socket:
over 10A for C1K (S) and C2K(S), over 16AforC3K(S). The specific method of
connection is shown in the following diagram:

2-6-1.The output ofClK/ClKS and C2K/C2KS uses sockets only. Simply plug the load
power cord to the output sockets to complete connection as shown in the following
diagram.

2-6-2.Apart from using the socket for output, C3K/C3KS has the terminal block
available for output as well. The wiring configuration is shown in the following
diagram.
(1).Remove the small cover of the terminal block;
(2).Use 14AWG (2.1mm2) wires for wiring configuration;
(3).Upon completion of the wiring configuration, please check whether the wires are
securely affixed;
(4).Put back the small cover to the rear panel.

2-7. Operation Procedure of External Battery for Long Backup time


Model ("S" Model)
2-7-1.Use the battery pack with correct voltage in accordance with different UPS
models: 36VDC fordKS(3 pcs of 12V batteries), 96VDC for C2KS and C3KS(8
pcs of 12V batteries). Connection of batteries more than or less than required
will cause abnormality.
2-7-2.0ne end of the external battery cord is a plug for connecting the UPS and the
other end has 3 open wires for connecting the battery pack.The battery
connection procedure is very important. Any incompliance may result in the risk
of electric shock. Therefore, the following steps must be strictly complied with.
(1).First connect in series the batteries of the pack to ensure proper bat-
tery voltage.
(2).Connect the external battery cord to the battery terminal (DO NOT connect the
terminal of the UPS first. Otherwise, it may cause electric shock). Connect the
red wire to the "+" terminal of the battery. The black wire is connected to the "-"
terminal of the battery. The green/yellow wire is grounded for protection
purpose.
(3).Do not connect the UPS to any load yet. Then, connect the power cord of the
UPS to supply utility power to the UPS to make the UPS operate in utility power
mode.
(4).Connect the plug of the external battery cord to the external battery socket on
the rear panel of the UPS to complete the connection procedure and the UPS
starts to charge the battery pack.

This UPS is easy to operate. Simply read this manual and the operator should
be able to operate the UPS by following the instructions without special training.

3-1. Operation
3-l-I.Supply utility power to the UPS to power on the UPS.
(1).As soon as utility power is connected, it can be set up whether the UPS works
in bypass mode or not by WinPower software.
(2).Press the 'Power On' key persistently for more than 1 second to power on the
UPS .
(3).When being activated, the UPS will start self-diagnosis, with the indicators
(Indicators 1-6) on the front panel turned on and then off one after another in
ascending order. Several seconds later, the Inverter indicator is turned on. UPS
is already running in utility power mode (line mode). If the utility power is
abnormal, the UPS will work in battery mode.
3-1-2.Power on the UPS in battery mode (without connection to utility power).
(1).Without supply of utility power, press the 'Power On' key for more
than 1 second to power on the UPS.
(2).In the power on process, the UPS has the same operation as if it is connected
to utility power except that the utility power indicator is not turned on and the
battery indicator is turned on instead.
3-1-3 .Power off the UPS already connected to utility power.
(1).Press the 'Power Off key persistently for more than 1 second to power off the
UPS and the inverter is turned off immediately.
(2).When being powered off, the UPS will start self-diagnosis. All the indicators
(Indicators 1-6) will be turned on and then off one after

another in ascending order. If it is set up to work in bypass mode by WinPower.


software and the bypass indicator will be turned on to indicate that the UPS is
working in bypass mode.
(3).Upon completion of the above to turn it off, output of electric current from the
UPS is still available. In order to cut off the output from the UPS, simply cut off
the utility power supply and the UPS will start self-diagnosis. Finally, not any
display is shown on the front panel and no voltage output is available from the
UPS outlets.
3-1-4-Without utility power supply, power off the UPS operating in Battery Mode.
(1).Press the "Power Off key persistently for more than 1 second to power off the
UPS.
(2).When being powered off, the UPS will start self-diagnosis and all the indicators
(Indicators 1 -6) will be turned on and then off one after another in ascending
order. Finally, not any display is shown on the front panel and no voltage output
is available from the UPS outlets.

3-2. Operating
3-2-l.Utility Power Mode (Line Mode)
In the utility power mode, the display on the front panel is shown in the following
diagram. The utility power indicator and the Inverter indicator are turned on. The
load indicator will be turned on in accordance with the load capacity connected.
(1). If the utility indicator blinks, it indicates that there are problems with reversed
polarity (L, N) of site wiring that may result in shock hazard. UPS is still working
in utility power mode. If the battery indicator is turned on at the same time, it
shows that the voltage or frequency of the utility power is out of the normal input
range of the UPS. The UPS works in battery mode.

(2). If output overloaded, the load level indicators will be turned on and alarm will
beep twice every second. You should get rid of some unnecessary loads one by
one to decrease the loads connected to the UPS less than 100% capacity of the
UPS.
(3). If the battery indicator blinks, it indicates that no battery is connected to the
UPS or battery voltage is too low. You should check if battery is properly
connected to the UPS. If the connection between battery and UPS is confirmed
without any problem, it may be due to the defect or aging of the battery, please
refer to the " troubleshooting " in chapter 6 to solve the problem accordingly.

Note:
Connection to the power generator should be made according to the following steps:
© Activate the power generator and wait until the operation is stable before
connecting the output of the power generator to the UPS (be sure that the UPS is in
idle mode). Then. turn on the UPS according to the start-up procedure. After the
UPS is turned on, the loads are connected one by one.

© It is recommended that the capacity of the AC generator chosen should double that of
the UPS.

3-2-2-Battery Mode
In battery mode, the display on the front panel is shown in the following diagram.
The battery indicator and the Inverter indicator are turned on. The battery
capacity indicator will be turned on in accordance with the battery capacity.
Please note that the load indicator in utility power mode will indicate the battery
capacity in battery mode.
(l).When UPS is running in battery mode, the alarm will beep every 4 seconds. If
the "Power On" key is pressed for more than 1 second, the alarm will not beep
(silence function). Press the "Power On" key for more than 1 second again to
resume the alarm function.

(2).When the battery capacity decreases, the number of battery capacity indicators
turned on will decrease. If the battery voltage drops to the pre-alarm level
(capable of maintaining the backup time tor more than 2 minutes), the alarm will
beep every second to remind the user of insufficient battery capacity. Then, the
load operations should be carried out promptly and the load should be
eliminated one by one.
(3).It is possible to check the backup function via the UPS even though utility
power is not connected.

3-2-3.Bypass Mode (UPS set to work in bypass mode by WinPower software when the
UPS turned off)
When operating in bypass mode, the display on the front panel is shown in the
following diagram. The utility power indicator and the bypass indicator are turned
on. The load indicator will be turned on in accordance with the load capacity
connected. The UPS beeps every 2 minutes.
(1 ).If the utility power indicator blinks, it shows that the voltage or frequency of the
utility power is out of the input range of the UPS or there are problems with
reversed polarity (L/N) of site wiring.

(2). Other display on the front panel is same as those mentioned in utility power
mode.
(3).When operating in bypass mode, the back up function of the UPS is not available
and the power used by the load is supplied directly from the utility power via
internal EMI filter.
3-2-4.Abnormal Mode
If the fault indicator is turned on when the UPS is in use, it shows that the UPS is
operating in abnormal mode. Please refer to the troubleshooting table in chapter 6
for abnormal situation for proper treatment.

4. Maintenance

• CASTLE Series of the UPS only requires minimal maintenance. The battery used
for standard models are Panasonic Sealed Lead-Acid maintenance free battery.
These models require minimal repairs. The only requirement is to charge the UPS
regularly in order to maximize the expected life. When being connected to utility
power, whether the UPS has been turned on or not, the UPS keeps charging the
battery and also offers the protective function of charging and discharging.
• If the UPS has not been used for a long period, charging is recommended at the
intervals of 4 to 6 months.
• Under normal conditions, the battery life lasts 3 to 5 years. In case if the battery is
found not in good condition, earlier replacement should be made. The battery
should only be replaced by qualified service personnel.
• Batteries should not be replaced individually. All batteries should be replaced at the
same time following the instructions of the battery supplier.
• Normally, the battery should be charged and discharged every 4 to 6 months.
Charging should begin after the UPS shuts down automatically in the course of
discharging. Moreover, the standard charging time should not be less than 5 hours.
• In the regions of hot climates, the battery should be charged and discharged every
2 months. The standard charging time should not be less than 5 hours.

6. Troubleshooting

The following information reminds user of certain phenomena that CASTLE Series
of the UPS has had some problems. Such information can be used to determine
whether the fault is caused by external factors or how to tackle the problem.

6. Troubleshooting

When you contact the service center, please provide the following information:

7. Warranty

Warranty

Sanlak Corp. offers the buyer and the client (hereinafter referred to as 'the Buyer')
the following limited warranty for repair:
Starting from the initial date when the Buyer purchases the product from Santak or
the distributor/the retailer of Santak, the Uninterruptible Power System and its
components related to this 'User's Manual' will not be short of materials and
services under normal use, service and maintenance within three years. The
foregoing warranty card is the only acceptable warranty card unless other
reasonable commercial agreements with specified purposes have been reached. In
certain places where local laws have special provisions for the term of warranty, the
foregoing term shall not be applicable. This warranty offers special legal rights. You
are able to obtain other different rights pursuant to local laws. The Buyer is
responsible for certain service and maintenance expenses. The following situation
is
not covered by the warranty: finished goods lost or serial number manipulated, loss
or damage due to force majeure or external reasons, misuse, accident, negligence,
unauthorized alteration or repair,overuse, violation of operation stipulations.
Warning: The warranty does not cover any loss caused by the over discharge of

covered by the warranty. Santak shall offer repair or replacement according to its
own means. In case of need for the warranty service, please contact your local
Santak Service Center.The transportation charges shall be borne by the buyer.
