Dear Bain & Company Recruiting Team,

I am a recent University of Cambridge graduate with a First Class Honours B.A. In XXX. I would like
to apply for an Associate Consultant position at the Bain London office.

My previous work experience has made me certain that consulting is the ideal career for me, as my
work will be both impactful and intellectually rewarding. Working as a Business Operations Intern at
Unlease.io, a PropTech start-up, has shown me first-hand how implementing strategic changes based
on qualitative and quantitative data can have a significant and measurable impact on a firm. This
experience has also given me confidence in presenting ideas to senior team members, as I took initiative
and successfully pitched two new frameworks for current company processes to the CEO and CMO.
Furthermore, leading the execution of a major marketing campaign, my problem solving skills and
ability to think on the spot were constantly tested, and have now improved considerably. Having
completed an internship in strategy consulting at Strategy& in London, I also appreciate how working
at Bain will help me further develop these problem-solving and analytical skills, while working on high-
impact projects for prominent organisations.

After attending Bain & Company’s recruitment presentation in Cambridge in October 2015, I was left
with an overwhelmingly positive impression of the firm as a place which encourages all “Bainees” to
grow and thrive, while keeping a fun and collegial atmosphere. The possibility for a rotation in the
Private Equity Group highly appeals to me, as the breadth of experiences would allow me develop a
valuable and highly diverse skillset. Furthermore, I was fascinated to learn about the company’s
commitment to the concept of “True North”, something which matches my personality and has
convinced me that Bain is the right company for me.

In February 2014, I led a team of five Cambridge students in the Micro Tyco fundraising challenge,
placing first out of 111 teams from the UK’s top universities. Throughout this project I demonstrated
my ability to meet demanding objectives under tight deadlines, and learned to segment problems in
order to implement a series of smaller solutions. More importantly, this experience reinforced my
entrepreneurial spirit and passion for social entrepreneurship.

In my second year, I had the opportunity to pursue this interest further when I identified a gap in the
market for pro-bono consulting services for non-profits in Cambridge. To close this gap, I founded the
Cambridge branch of 180 Degrees Consulting, where I was President from April 2015 until June 2016.
This experience tested my teamwork, leadership, and organisation skills, managing a committee of 9
Executive members and 30 student consultants. Overcoming the challenges of starting a new society
and persuading clients to work with a new society, we successfully completed 5 projects, included two
international projects in Tanzania and Kenya.

If you have any further questions, I may be contacted at XXXX or via email at XXXXX. Thank you for
your time and consideration, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours Sincerely,

XXXX
