Aim: to revise the Past Simple forms of “to be” and regular verbs
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T, S-S
Timing: 10 minutes
Organization: group work
Materials: Tarsia Game Cards
Procedure:
- the T checks who is missing
- the Ss are already arranged in 4 groups of 5 or 6 for this activity
- the T gives each group a set of cards – a puzzle they must solve this way revising the Past Simple forms of “to
be” and regular verbs
- the T explains the game: Ss must match the cards so that each side of the card matches a side of another card. If
solved correctly the cards must form a hexagon of Past Simple forms of regular verbs
Activity 4: Game
Aim: - to further enhance the learning through games
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
Timing: 8 minutes
Materials: ball
Organisation: class work
Procedure:
- the T asks the Ss to form a circle in the middle of the class
- the T explains the rules of the game: the T is going to say a verb in the infinitive, and throw the ball to one of the
Ss. The S who catches it must say the Past Simple form of the verb. If the Ss says a wrong answer, he/she must
crouch down a round, in silence. The T takes the ball and says the same verb and throws it to another S. If the S
gives a correct answer, he/she says another infinitive form verb and throws the ball to another Ss. After all Ss
answer, the game is finished. It is alright if the verbs are repeated, as long as the Ss learn the forms.
