March, 2019

Dear Bellmawr Learning Community Member

I am happy to inform you that the members of the Bellmawr Board of Education approved, by a 4-3
vote, the 19-20 budget that Mr. Doyle and I recommended at Monday’s Board meeting. I am thrilled
that we will be able to continue the good work you are already doing in each of our classes in all our
buildings. This also means that we will be in the fortunate position of adding staff members to our
Learning Community.

The 19-20 budget includes:

• All costs associated with the continuation of our Teacher Leader Cadre
• Additional funds for professional development
• Four additional special education teachers
• A full time Administrative Assistant in the Child Study Team
• A full time Administrative Assistant in the ACECC
• The salaries of all current staff members
• Teachers’ budget requests
• Funds for updated math subscriptions in all schools
• Funds for Social Studies materials
• The continuation of our Intervention programs at all schools
• Director of Guidance Services and Programs
• A new District nurse
• A new District Licensed Practical Nurse
• Additional behavioral support through Brett Di Novi
• Additional Occupational Therapy services
• Additional Psychologist services
• Facilities and technology improvements

The next step in this process is the delivery of our budget to the County Business Administrator for her
approval. Final adoption of our budget will take place on April 29th at the Board meeting. And what
follows of course is the submission of orders and then the delivery of the same.

The Burke renovation will include all new lighting, heating and air-conditioning, new furniture, new
technology and new bathrooms in the damaged section of the building. That project is moving along
nicely, and we are confident that we will be returning everyone to their rightful homes in time for the
opening of school in September. I know how difficult sharing spaces has been for our entire district and
I appreciate your commitment and patience throughout the year so that we could ensure that our
students did not have to miss one day of school this year.

Several job postings have been issued for your consideration and a few more will be coming your way.
We will consider in house employee requests prior to advertising out of district. This is likely to result in
several movements in and amongst the positions in the schools. I ask that you give us some time to
review the applicants and speak to those who have asked for an instructional change before contracts
are issued later in April. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you be interested in making a move
this year.
Many of you may have heard that the Board is considering moving to grade level schools. That will not
be happening in 19-20. Rather, we will spend the next academic year exploring the feasibility of this
change.

Finally, spring is here and while it is the rainy season, we made it through the winter without a snow
day. I am sure you are looking forward to spring break. I k now that I am! Enjoy the Ides of March as all
the wind and rain bring flowers and sunshine.

Sincerely

Annette Castiglione, Superintendent
