Specifier Notes: This product guide specification is written according to the Construction
Specifications Institute (CSI) 3-Part Format, including MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and
PageFormat, contained in the CSI Manual of Practice.
The section must be carefully reviewed and edited by the Architect to meet the requirements of the
project and local building code. Coordinate this section with other specification sections and the
drawings.
SECTION 08314
Specifier Notes: This section covers Besam “ICU/CCU” telescopic manual sliding doors, overhead
concealed with breakaway hardware. If necessary, consult local Besam representative for
assistance in editing this section for the specific application.
PART 1 GENERAL
A. Manual ICU/CCU telescopic sliding doors with header, door and track.

1.3 REFERENCES

This article does not require compliance with standards, but is merely a listing of those used.
Specifier Notes: Specify fixed sidelite for trackless system or full breakout for trackless or
surface/recessed track system. Consult Besam for additional information.
1. Fixed Sidelite System, trackless: Exterior sliding active leaves swing out from any position
in sliding mode and sidelite remains fixed at all times.
2. Full Breakout System, surface/recessed track: Interior sliding active leaves and sidelites
swing out from any position in sliding mode.
3. Full Breakout Trackless system: Swing breakaway to 90° for both the sidelite and the active
sliding door(s) must only be performed when the active sliding door(s) are at the fully slid
open position.
4. Breakaway Pressure: Field adjustable to building code requirements and in accordance
with NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and or AHJ “Authority Having Jurisdiction”.
1.6 SUBMITTALS
A. Manufacturer's Qualifications:
1. Continuously engaged in manufacturing of doors of similar type to that specified, with a
minimum of 10 years successful experience.
2. Member: American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM).
3. Door and frame, from same manufacturer.
B. Installer's Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 5 years successful experience in installation of similar doors.
2. Local certified Besam distributor.
3. Approved by manufacturer.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER

B. Dimensions:
Specifier Notes: Specify the following dimensions here or provide the dimensions on the drawings.
B. Glass:
1. Glazing Material: ANSI Z97.1.
Specifier Notes: Specify required glass for active leaves and sidelites. Sidelites with 1-inch (25mm)
glass only available with fixed sidelite units.
2. Active Leaves: [1/4-inch (6-mm) glass] [5/8-inch (16-mm) glass insulating units] [1-inch
(25-mm) glass insulating units].
3. Sidelites: [1/4-inch (6-mm) glass] [5/8-inch (16-mm) glass insulating units] [1-inch (25-
mm) glass insulating units].
4. Field-glazed or pre-glazed.
C. Door Carriers:
1. Roller Wheels: 2 steel rollers at 2.15-inch (54-mm) diameter per active door leaf
with single journal sealed oil-impregnated roller bearings to insure smooth manual
operation over replaceable nylon track.
2. 1/2" (12.7mm) vertical adjustment with positive mechanical lock.
3. 2 self-aligning anti-risers per leaf to prevent door derailment.

D. Door Construction:
1. Integrated corner block with ½-inch all-thread through bolt from each stile.
2. Weatherstripping to be captured and integrated within extrusion. Stick on surfaced applied
weatherstripping is not acceptable.
F. Header:
1. Header extrusion to accommodate optional ¼-inch (6.3mm) by 3-1/4-inch (82.5mm) steel
stiffening bar to address heavier loads and transoms.
2. Size: 6 inches (152 mm) wide by 4-3/4- inches (120.6 mm) high.
3. Hinged Access Cover: Self-supporting when open to allow access for adjustments.
4. Concealed cover locks to prevent tampering and no exposed cover screws required.
5. Design: Closed header to reduce dust, air and sound passage. No larger gaps than ½-inch
(12.7mm) will be permitted.
6. Internal mechanical components to be interchangeable and similar in function and
serviceability with standard product line offerings. Dissimilar rollers, tracks, pivots or service
and maintenance techniques will not be acceptable.
Specifier Notes: Specify Dark Bronze or clear anodized finish. Consult Besam for availability of
custom finishes such as stainless steel clad, powder coat and Kynar colors.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine and measure areas to receive doors. Notify Architect of conditions that would
adversely affect installation or subsequent utilization of doors. Do not proceed with installation
until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
A. Ensure openings to receive frames are plumb, level, square, and in tolerance.
B. Ensure proper support has been provided at operator header.
C. Ensure floor is level and smooth.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install doors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
and or AHJ “Authority Having Jurisdiction”.
B. Install doors and beam plumb, level, square, true to line, and without warp or rack.
C. Anchor frames securely in place.
D. Separate aluminum from other metal surfaces with bituminous coatings or other means
approved by Architect.
E. Repair minor damages to finish in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and as
approved by Architect.
F. Remove and replace damaged components that cannot be successfully repaired as
determined by Architect.
A. Adjust doors for proper operation in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and
adherence to NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and or AHJ “Authority Having Jurisdiction”.
3.6 CLEANING
3.7 PROTECTION
A. Protect installed doors and finish to ensure that, except for normal weathering, doors and finish
will be without damage or deterioration at time of substantial completion.
