GRAMMAR
In this lesson we shall see a very useful phrase meaning "I don't understand." It is useful, of
course, because many times you won't immediately pick up on what people are saying.
Another thing you can say when you're confused is "I don't know," which in Turkish is
Bilmiyorum.
Another recourse is to tell someone, "I don't speak Turkish." This phrase in Turkish is Türkçe
konuşmuyorum.
The first word, Türkçe, means "Turkish." This is followed by konuşmuyorum, which means "do
not speak."
CULTURAL INSIGHT
Quick Tip 1
When engaged in a conversation with a Turkish person, you're likely not to understand
everything they're saying to you. This could be for a number of reasons: their accent, how fast
they're speaking, or the vocabulary that they're using. If this happens, don't be afraid to say
Anlamıyorum. Turkish people will be more than happy to explain what they have just said.

Quick Tip 2
After Turkish people have told you something, they might ask you Anladın mı?, meaning "Did
you understand?" If you did, you can answer with Anladım, which means "I understood."
