CG-11 Plot the points A(– 5, 2), B(2, – 4), and C(1, 1) on the graph and connect them to form Δ ABC.
a) Draw Δ A'B'C' by adding 4 to each x–coordinate and – 2 to each y–coordinate to get three new points, A', B',
and C'. For example, the coordinates of A' are (– 5 + 4, 2 – 2) = (– 1, 0).
b) Using the same graph, add 7 to each original x–coordinate and 3 to each original y–coordinate, and connect
the three new ordered pairs to form a third triangle. Label it A ", B ", and C ".
c) Describe what you notice about the size, shape and orientation of the three triangles. Use full sentences.
CG-12 Suppose the points D(2, 0), E(6, 0), and F(3, 4) are plotted and connected to form a triangle as shown on
the grid. Copy them onto a sheet of graph paper (include the axes). Δ D'E'F' is formed by rotating (turning) Δ
DEF 90 counter–clockwise using the origin as the center of rotation. The vertices of the new triangle are D'(0,
2), E'(0, 6) and F'(–4, 3). Copy them onto a sheet of graph paper. Use a piece of tracing paper to outline the x–
and y–axes, then trace a triangle that is the same size and shape as Δ DEF and is in the same position along the
x–axis. Use it to help visualize the rotations. Complete parts (a) and (b) on your graph paper.
c) In what ways are the triangles in parts (a) and (b) the
same? Write your observations in a sentence.
