Directions for questions 21 to 25: Answer the questions based on the following information.
Bacon number of an actor is a good estimate of the degrees of separation he has from the actor
Kevin Bacon (of the movie Hollow Man). The higher the Bacon number, the farther away from
Kevin Bacon the actor is.
Initially, all actors had a Bacon number infinite.
The Bacon number of any actor X gets reduced by the following set of rules:
• 0 if X is Kevin Bacon.
• 1 + lowest number among the Bacon numbers of all the actors who have appeared in any
movie with X.

In the Kodak theatre, Los Angeles, Kevin Bacon was being felicitated for his contribution to the
American cinema.
A group of five actors: Paul Newman, Matt Damon, Samuel L Jackson, Nicolas Cage and
Denzel Washington were present at the ceremony. It was discovered that Paul Newman was the
only one who had an infinite Bacon number. Moreover, nobody had a Bacon number less than
that of Denzel Washington and Nicolas Cage had lower Bacon number than Samuel L Jackson.

They all got very excited after meeting each other and decided to do a few movies together. The
discussion that followed was:

Denzel Washington: “ Paul and Matt, I always wanted to work with both of you. I have a
movie where both of you would be acting alongside me, and the director would be Tarantino.
What do you say?”

Paul and Matt (In same breath): “Yeah Denzel! Let us start right away”.
(All three acted in a movie together, titled “The Unmasked Man” and that reduced the average
Bacon number of the group of five actors to 4.)

The group of these five actors met after 6 months again, at Upper Crust, Beverly Hills. There
they discovered that the Bacon numbers of Samuel L Jackson and Nicolas Cage remained
unchanged with the making of “The Unmasked Man”. Further, no other group of three actors
(acting in the same movie) would have reduced the average Bacon number of the group of five
to as low as 4.

Later in the same year, when “The Unmasked Man” was made, Nicolas Cage and Samuel L
Jackson also acted in a movie “When men died”. The current Bacon numbers of the other three
actors remained unchanged with the making of this movie whereas the groups’ average Bacon
number reduced by 1. After a year, they all finally met at Palm Beach. No other movie was
made during the course of this time.
