DETAILED LESSON PLAN in

MATH IV

Parts of a Circle
I. Learning Objectives

Cognitive: Identify the parts of a circle

Psychomotor: Draw a circle and show its parts

Affective: Show cooperation in group activities

II. Learning Content

Skills: 1. Identifying the parts of a circle
2. Drawing a circle and showing its parts
References: BEC-PELC III.A.1.2 textbooks in Math 4
Materials: cutouts of circles, drawing of circles, colored chalk
Value: Cooperation

III. Procedure

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Good morning class! Good morning sir!

(Checking of attendance)
Who are absent today? None sir!
Very Good!
Now bring out your assignment.

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill

Before we will proceed to our

lesson let’s have a game it is
called the “crazy quilt”
I will choose 2 players in the
class. Here is what they do. They
will choose equation on the
board and solve for its answer. If
they solve the equation right
they will shade the block with
this colored chalk. The player
who colored the most parts
wins.

2. Review

Here are picture of the house.

Identify the square, rectangle,
trapezoid and parallelogram by
naming the parts of the house.

What part of the house is The windows sir!

square?
What about the rectangle? Sir! The door

What about the Trapezoid? Sir! The roof

How about the parallelogram? Sir! The body of the house

3. Motivation
(Present drawings of circles of
different size)

What do you see class? Different size of circle

What do you notice on the They have different size

circle?

There are different size of circle

there are some big and there are
small.

Class! Do you know that there

are parts of a circle? No sir

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

A. (Group the students)

Sir! Cooperate
What you should do if you are in
the group?
To made the work done quick
Why do you think you should and correct
cooperate with one another?

(Distribute the cutout to the

groups)

o Fold the circle into 2

equal parts?

o Then mark the center

with an X.

o Then mark the fold A and

B at both ends.

The line that form between the Divides the circle into 2 equal
circle are what you call parts
“diameter”

What diameters do to the circle? Diameter divides the circle into 2

equal parts.
Now what is diameter?

o This time fold again the

circle into 4 equal
parts.Then mark the fold
A, B, C and D
The line segment XC, XB, XD and
XA are what we call “radius”

What do you notice about the They have the same end points
radius? which is X

Therefore what is radius? A radius is a line segment from

the center to any part of the
circumference
Do you know what is
circumference?

Circumference is a line that

surrounds the circle

B. Act out

(Call 10 students)
Hold hands together

What plane figure do you form? Sir! Circle

(Call 1 student)
Stand at the center of the circle?

(Call students)
You will form a line between the
circle that passes to the center

(Call students)
You will form a line from center
to one point of the circle

Compare the first line to the

second line

Which is longer? The first line sir

Which is shorter? The second line sir

What part of the circle is the first Sir! Diameter

line?

How about the second line?

How about the students that

forms the circle?

2. Guided practice

(Tell them to go back to their

respective group)

Each group will draw a circle

with “O” as the center point.

Then draw a diameter and name

it as RS.
