Family Involvement

A lot of times it can be hard for parents to stay actively involved in their child’s
academic activities. I personally believe that there needs to be a two-way street
between the classroom and the parents making the parents involvement encouraged,
welcomed, and easy! So how can we make it possible coming from a teacher’s
perspective? Keep it simple yet effective. Often, communication can get lost when there
are a hundred different ways to do so. I think the most efficient ways of keeping the
parents involved would be with Class Dojo, involved at home assignments and
opportunities to volunteer!

As a parent myself, my absolute favorite way to communicate with my child’s

teacher was Class Dojo! Class Dojo is basically just and app that you download to your
phone that keeps all the communication in one spot! On the app, you’re able to see any
updates, announcements, class pictures and upcoming events that are going on. You
are also able to communicate with the teacher through messages as well as receive
daily updates about your child’s behavior in class that day. No information ever gets lost
through various forms of communication which is exciting!

I think it’s important to extend volunteer opportunities to parents regularly

encouraging them to sign up as dividends and get involved. Throwing class parties and
having special guests gives the students opportunities to bring their parents into the
classroom and show off what they are doing. It also gives the parents an opportunity to
get a better grasp of what is going on in the classroom and feel involved!

Another way to involve the family in the classroom without them physically
having to be in the classroom is family involved assignments. You can send home
assignments that involve the children asking their family about their family history or
family traditions. Another great way to involve the parents would be to send home
extended projects that involve building or nurturing something.
