(Houseman Knowledge)

1. What is houskeeping ?
Housekeeping is one department in the hotel which has responsibilty to clean and maintain the
rooms and public areas at the hotel.
2. What is Public area in your opinion ?
Public area is one section in housekeeping department which is responsible to clean all public
areas at the hotel, for example : corridor, restaurant, public toilets, offices, swimming pool, staff
areas , sport area and so on.
3. What parts of hotel must be cleaned by houseman/HK cleaner/hotel steward ?
Which areas of hotel must be cleaned by houseman/HK cleaner/hotel steward ?
Houseman must clean all public areas inside and outside the hotel, for example: corridor,
restaurant, public toilets, offices, swimming pool, staff areas , sport area and so on.
4. What is the general job’ description of a houseman/HK cleaner/hotel steward ?
Houseman is responsible for cleaning public areas according to company standard, including bars,
lounges, public toilets, restaurants, corridors and other public areas. Also shampooing carpets,
bring the guest’s baggage and help the passangers to their right cabin during embarkation process.
5. Can you tell me how to use polishing machine ?
At first we must clear the area from any objects, and then put wet floor sign at the area to tell
people that polishing job is being done, switch on polishing machine, and then polish the floor,
after finish then switch off the machine.
6. Can you tell us how to use vacuum cleaner ?
At first, prepare the vacuum machine, change dust bag in the machine,and then put wet floor sign
at the area to tell people that vacuuming job is being done, switch on vacuum machine, and then
vacuum the floor, after finish then switch off the machine.
7. How do you clean the carpet with dirty spot / coffee spilling on it ?
To remove the dirty spot on carpet, we can put spot remover powder or liquid on the stains, then
brush the carpet using hand brush carefully and then vacuum the carpet by carpet extractor
machine.
8. How many kind of vacuum cleaner do you know ?
As far as I know, there are 2 kind of vacuum cleaners : Dry vacuum and Wet vacuum cleaners.
Dry vacuum is for dry surface and dirt cleaning.
Wet vacuum is for wet surface and puddle water cleaning.
9. Do you know anything about MPC ?
MPC is Multi Purposed Cleaner. It is a special cleaner for cleaning all hard surface, for example:
cleaning the floor, toilet bowl, wash basin, bath-tub, and so on.
10. What chemical do you use for cleaning the mirror / floor / bath-tub / wash basin ?
Bathroom Cleaner, Glass Cleaner, Multi Purpose Cleaner, Gum Remover, Rust Remover, Spot
Remover and Disinfectant.
11. Mention some of cleaning equipment !
Mention the tools of houseman !
Trolley cart, combo bucket, caddy bucket, rubbish basket, hand mop, hand brush, floor brush,
toilet bowl brush, hand broom, floor broom, ceiling broom, lobby duster, mopping cloth, dry cloth,
vacuum cleaner, floor scrubber, shampooing machine and so on
12. Tell us about three-bucket system !
Three Bucket System is a sanitation procedure using three different colour buckets and sponge.
They are red, white, and grey buckets. The red bucket is for washing, the white bucket is for
rinsing and the grey buckets is for sanitizing.
13. How do you clean lobby ?
What is the procedure to clean lobby ?
At first, prepare equipments to clean the lobby, for example: broom or lobby duster, dust pan, dry
clothes and some cleaning chemical, and then put wet floor sign at the area to tell people that
cleaning job is being done. After finish, then collect all equipment and put them in staion again.
