1 Netcool/Impact Overview

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact is a highly scalable event processing engine that provides a
common platform for ubiquitous data access that easily circumvents traditional organizational
boundaries. Leveraging this data, IT operations staff can correlate, calculate, enrich, deliver,
notify, escalate, visualize and perform a wide range of automated actions. The advanced
policy-engine provided by Netcool/Impact allows IT operations staff to add business context to
IT events, thereby making it easier to perform essential functions such as event prioritization,
business impact analysis and measurement of key performance indicators. The Operator
View allows user to create Web-based views consolidate multiple data sources and provide a
single point from which to view distributed data.
Netcool/Impact is a set of runnable server components that work together to provide event
management and integration functionality for the Netcool suite of products. From an
implementation perspective, you can understand Netcool/Impact as a development tool that
you use to customize, enhance, and expand the functionality of an existing Netcool
installation. It is a platform that you can use to build new functionality into your current
installation of the Netcool product suite.

2 Viewing the Netcool/Impact GUI in the IBM
Dashboard Applications Services Hub
This scenario works for Netcool/Impact 7.1 and Jazz for Service Management 1.1.0.2.

2.1 General Steps

1) The Dashboard Applications Services Hub (Jazz for Service Management) installation must be
configured to a central user repository.
2) The Dashboard Applications Services Hub installation must be configured for Single Sign-On
Note: Your Dashboard Applications Services Hub installation must be on the same domain as
your Impact server.
3) The Netcool/Impact installation must be configured to the same central user repository as your
Dashboard Applications Services Hub environment.
4) Your Netcool/Impact installation must be configured for Single Sign-On
Note: Your impact install must be on the same domain as your Dashboard Applications Services
Hub server.
5) Restart both Impact and Dashboard Applications Services Hub servers.
6) Complete configuration steps in the Dashboard Applications Services Hub GUI for console
integration.
Note: This step is not needed for the use of web widgets described in “Scenario 1 Viewing
Netcool/Impact Operator views through the IBM Dashboard Applications Services Hub web widget”.

2.2 Detailed Steps

1) Configure the Dashboard Applications Services Hub to a central user repository.

A high level overview of an LDAP configuration can be found in the Jazz for Services
Management documentation. Focus on steps 1-4 of the procedure.

%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Fconfig%2Fpsc_t_config_user_registry.html

If you are having difficulty following the documentation, here are the direct links needed for
each step:

1a) Adding the LDAP user registry as a federated repository:

%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Fconfig%2Fpsc_t_config_fed_rep.html

1c) (Optional) Managing LDAP users in the console:

%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Ftip_original%2Fttip_config_ldap_users.html

1d) (Optional but recommended) Configuring an SSL connection to an LDAP server:

%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Fconfig%2Fpsc_t_config_ssl_ldap.html

2) Configure the Dashboard Applications Services Hub for Single Sign-On (SSO)

A high level overview of the SSO configuration can be found in the Jazz for Services
Management documentation. Focus on on step 2a of the procedure.

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/index.jsp?topic=
%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Fconfig%2Fpsc_t_config_config_sso.html

2a) Configuring SSO on the application server

NOTE: Netcool/Impact and the Dashboard Applications Services Hub must use the same
Domain name:

%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.2%2Fconfig%2Fpsc_t_config_enable_sso.html

3) Configuring Netcool/Impact to the same central user repository as the Dashboard

Applications Services Hub

A high level overview of a LDAP configuration can be found in the Netcool/Impact

documentation. Focus on steps 3a-3b of the procedure:

3 Viewing operator views in the IBM Dashboard
Applications Services Hub
These scenarios work for Netcool/Impact 7.1 and Jazz for Service Management 1.1.0.2.
There are two scenarios with this integration:
1) View Netcool/Impact Operator views through the IBM Dashboard Applications Services
Hub web widget.
2) Integrate your deployed Netcool/Impact tasks (including deployed operator views) into the
IBM Dashboard Applications Services Hub GUI.

3.1 General Steps

Follow the general steps listed in section 2.1 General steps
4 Scenario 1 Viewing Netcool/Impact Operator
views through the IBM Dashboard Applications
Services Hub web widget
1) Complete steps 1 - 5 from section 2.2 Detailed steps

2) Configure a web widget to point to your operator view

(https://<HOST>:<PORT>/opview/displays/<CLUSTERNAME>-<OPVIEW_NAME>.html):

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/index.jsp?topic=
%2Fcom.ibm.psc.doc_1.1.0.1%2Ftip_original%2Fcreate_webwidget.html
5 Scenario 2 Integrating deployed Netcool/Impact
tasks (including deployed operator views) into the
IBM Dashboard Applications Services Hub GUI:
1) Complete steps 1 - 5 from section 2.2 Detailed steps

2) Perform the steps for Console Integration:

2a) Launch the Dashboard Applications Services Hub console using the fully qualified
hostname.

For example: https://dash.ibm.com:16311/ibm/console

The fully qualified hostname must be used in order for Single Sign On to work.

2b) Log into the Dashboard Applications Services Hub console using the LDAP
administrative user.

2c) Launch the Console Integrations page, located under the Settings icon.

2d) Click the new icon button to create a new federation.

2e) Give the new Console Integration a name and enter in the URL to the Impact REST
interface using the fully qualified hostname

For example: https://impact.ibm.com:16311/ibm/console/rest).

The fully qualified hostname must be used in order for SSO to work.

2f) Click on the 'Test' button to see if the connection can be made.

2g) The connection status and a list of tasks belonging to that console and their
attributes are displayed. (This step assumes operator views have been deployed into
the impact console beforehand).

2h) Click Save to create the Console Integration.

In the navigation tree, a new Console Integrations icon is displayed. All the Console
Integrations are stored here along with their tasks. You can click on any of these
integrated tasks to launch the task inside the Dashboard Applications Services Hub
console content area.
