A Detailed Lesson Plan

Grade 7-Honest

I. Lesson Objectives

At the end of the lesson 100% of the students shall be able to attain at least 75% level
of proficiency to;

1. Identify the causes and effect of water pollution to individuals and to environment.

2. Create a diagram showing the causes and effect of water pollution.

3. Realize the significant role of human to the environment.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Water Pollution

Sub-topic: Causes and Effect of Water Pollution

Main Concept: Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a

result of human activities. Water pollution results when contaminants are introduces
into the natural environment.

3. Checking the attendance

4. Passing the assignment

B. Motivational Activities

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

1. Review/Motivation

As a sort of review, I have here 3box with

different uses. All you have to do is to pass this
3box and when the music stops whoever has the
dice and the colored box will roll it and the one
who holds the black box will answer a
corresponding question. Is that clear?

Yes teacher
Every correct answer there will be a revealing
picture under each question that you will have to
identify. Let's start!

(The students will do the activity)

1. It is the contamination of air by smoke or

other gases.

-Air Pollution

2. It is a type of chemical gas that is formed by

the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline
and is emitted primarily by cars and trucks.

-Carbon Monoxide

3. Give at least 3 disease that can acquire

through air pollution.

-Asthma, Bronchitis, Skin diseases

4. It is a type of gas that contributes to air

pollution.

-Carbon Dioxide

5. It is formed by burning sulfur containing

fuels especially diesel. What is this?

-Sulfur Dioxide

Very Good class! It seems that you really

understand our previous discussion.

Now that the picture is revealed, what do you

think is our topic for today?
Our topic for today is all about Water Pollution
teacher.

Correct!

2. Lesson Proper

Kindly read the lesson objectives.

Objectives:

1. Explain the causes and effect of water

pollution to individuals and to environment.

2. Cite the significant role of human to the

environment.
3. Create a diagram showing the causes and
effect of water pollution.

Thank you!

Class, do you have any idea about water

Water pollution is the change of the properties

of water due to the chemicals.

Correct! Water pollution is the contamination of

water bodies, usually as a result of human
activities. Water pollution results when
contaminants are introduces into the natural
environment. Water bodies include for example
lakes, rivers, ocean, aquifers and groundwater.
Yes teacher
Do you understand?

To understand further, I have here envelopes

containing the materials that you are about to
use. Also, inside the envelopes there are pictures
of water pollution and all you have to do is to list
down the causes and effect of water pollution
through diagram. To identify the members of
each group, look at the colored paper that you
picked before entering the room. Those who got
the same color will be groupmates. Choose 1
representative to explain your work. And here
are the criterias on how you will be graded.
Kindly read. Criteria 5 3 1

the activity

Yes teacher
I will give you 10 minutes to do the task. Are
(The students will do the activity)
you ready?

Yes teacher

Are you done?

(The students will present their works)

Okay! Let's start from group 1 then follow by the
rest of the group.
Job well done class!

Water is typically referred to as polluted when it

is impaired by contaminants such as oils, Yes teacher
garbage and other hazardous chemicals. And
water pollution is a major problem all over the
world. Is that clear?
Dumping of wastes can cause water pollution
because of the chemicals that each waste
contains.
Class, why do you think dumping of wastes
causes water pollution?

Industrial waste releases different chemicals

Exactly! Dumping of solid wastes can cause
that can damage or can cause water pollution.
contamination of water.

How about industrial wastes?

That’s right! Industrial waste contains pollutants

like asbestos, lead, mercury and petrochemicals
which are extremely harmful to both people and
Yes teacher
environment. Industrial waste is discharged into
lakes and rivers by using fresh water making the
water contaminated. Do you understand?
Oil spill can cause water pollution because it
makes a thick layer on the surface of the water.

Another thing is oil spill. Why do you think oil

spill can cause water pollution?
Correct! Sea water gets polluted due to oil
spilled from ships and tankers while traveling.
The spilled oil does not dissolve in water and
Eutrophication is the excessive production of
forms a thick sludge polluting the water causing
nutrients in the water.
the aquatic organisms to die.

Do you have any idea about eutrophication?

That's right!

Eutrophication is an increased level of nutrients

in water bodies. This results in bloom of algae in
water. It also depletes the oxygen in water,
which negatively affects fish and other aquatic
animal population. Yes teacher

Do you understand the causes of water

pollution?

Now that you already know the causes of water

pollution. Here are some results that may arise
from that causes you have given.

The first effect of water pollution is that humans

that drink or consume polluted water in any way People may suffer from different diseases in the
has many disastrous effects on our health. It body systems. A person with typhoid may suffer
causes typhoid, cholera, hepatitis and various from abdominal pain, diarrhea and rashes
other diseases. Why do you think so? because of the dirty water that he/she will drink.
Cholera is a severe watery diarrhea which can
lead to dehydration.

If we continue to damage our water resources,

Very good! Another is the destruction of
more marine lives will die that can cause to
ecosystem. Why do you think destruction of
unbalanced ecosystem.
ecosystem is one of the effect of water pollution?

Very well said! Because of the contaminated

water, living organisms that lives under the water
can die and that will affect the ecosystem.

Those are the effects of water pollution. Avoid using chemicals such as pesticides,

So based from your answers, what do you think fertilizers and detergents so that it won’t spread
will be the solution for water pollution? to the water.
Practice the proper disposal of garbage to avoid
clogging of drainage.

Right!

Use environmentally friendly products. By using

soluble products that do not go on to become
pollutants, we can reduce the amount of water Yes teacher
pollution caused by a household. Do you
understand?

Next is the better treatment of sewage. So

treating waste products before disposing of it in
a water body helps reduce water pollution on a
large scale. Agriculture or other industries can Yes teacher
reuse this wastewater by reducing its toxic
contents. Is that clear?

None teacher

Do you have any questions?

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Let us check your work.

Give yourself a "wave clap".

4. Generalization

Let's find out if you really understand our

discussion. I will be giving you a piece of paper
with words or phrases written on it. Those
phrases are the causes and effects of water
pollution. When the music stops, you will find
your partner. If you holds the card stating the
cause of water pollution you will find your Yes teacher
partner which is the effect of the cause you
holds. Is that clear?
(The students will do the activity)

Let's start now!

Very good class! It seems that you really

understand the discussion.

4. Application

I prepared a video presentation on how to

prevent water pollution. So class, listen carefully
and write down some important details because Yes teacher
afterwards I will ask you a question. Is that
clear?

(The teacher will present the video)

Now class, as a youth or as an individual that is

responsible for the changes in our environment,
Be careful about what you throw down
what will be your significant role to the
anywhere.
environment?
Conserve water by turning off the tap when
running water is not necessary.
Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans.

Very good! Class always remember that, for us

not to be able to experience those factors of
water pollution. We should lessen the activities
that can contribute to water pollution. Do you Yes teacher
understand?

Let's do the wave clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

IV. Evaluation
