Warm up:

 The teacher will start the class by singing the “Knock, knock, hello” (children already know this
song from previous classes) and she will ask about the weather by saying: What’s the weather
like today? Is it sunny? Is it cloudy? Next she will ask and what day is today? Is it Sunday? Is it
Monday? Is it Tuesday? (it will be Tuesday the 16th)
 After this she’ll propose to play a short game with vocabulary they have learned the previous
class (words from the very hungry caterpillar story). She will present a set of flashcards
(flashcards which have the picture and the word printed in the same card, 2 o each) and children
will play a memory game, they will have to find the pair of cards, one turn each. The one who
guesses more pairs will win the game. The teacher will stick on the board the flashcards to make
them remember the vocabulary related to the story.
 As she sticks the flashcards she will ask: What colour is this? Trying to elicit at least 6 colour
necessary for one of the round up activities (blue, pink, yellow, purple, green and brown) and
will stick these colours in the board too.

Development

 The teacher will tell the children that they will represent together the caterpillar story with
puppets (little flashcards with a stick attached to make a puppet). For this the teacher will read
from the story very slowly allowing children to represent each section comfortably.
 Later on, the teacher will tell students that they will watch a time-lapse video of a butterfly
actually going through its life stages (making sure they understand they will be able to watch the
whole process happening; it will appear to be happening much faster than it actually does).
Next, the teacher will show students the video “Amazing Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly.”
After watching the video, the teacher will distribute a copy of the worksheet with a diagram of a
butterfly’s life cycle to each student. She will help students complete the worksheet
independently by labeling the four stages in a butterfly's life cycle and will write it on the board
to make sure everybody got it right.

Round up

 The teacher will distribute a worksheet with a picture of a butterfly on a leaf for the children
to paint by numbers.
 Finally, the teacher will provide fruit so children can eat some of the food the caterpillar ate
to become a butterfly. For this she will have ready pear, plums, oranges, apples and
strawberries (the last ones depending on season availability) all cut in squares son children
can put them on a stick and eat from it accompanied by fruit sauces (like the ones ice cream
shops sell)
