with the front end, to emphasize the width and power-

The powerful look of the rear end is also emphasized
by the twin-pipe exhaust system, which is capped off
with trapezoidal exhaust tips.

achieved. The toothed rack is made of hot forged high-
strength steel. In order to further improve the articula-
tion characteristics, the steering gear is rigidly con-
nected to the integral support.

Economy (ECO) power steering pump

On the SLK, an ECO power steering pump is installed

as standard. This has reduced energy requirements
during straightahead travel. This is achieved through
an additional electrically actuated proportional sole-
noid valve, which controls a bypass opening at the
pressure connection and directs oil to the steering
gear as required. This oil quantity and therefore the
flow pressure in the steering system are minimal when
driving straightahead. This reduces power consump-
tion.

are transmitted from the shock absorber via the piston
rod to the cardan rubber bushing in the head bearing
and only then onto the body. Since the rubber bushing
does not have to transmit the high static carrying
forces, it can be softer and thus optimized for comfort.
Buffering forces are transmitted to the body over a
separate path via the head bearing.

Sports suspension

Compared to the standard suspension, the sports sus-

shorter suspension springs and torsion stabilizer bars
with a larger cross-section.
The vehicle level is lowered by 10 mm and roll support
has been strengthened, resulting in lower roll angles
during dynamic driving.
The sports suspension can optionally be combined
with all of the wheel sizes approved for the respective
engine.
