A literatura secundária sobre o conceito de contradição em Hegel é muito ampla. As contribuições
mais recentes são BORDIGNON (2015), DE BOER (2010), SCHICK (2010).
3
Sobre a relação entre dialética e dialeteísmo, veja PRIEST (1989), FICARA (2013), BORDIGNON
(2017).

“It is the main claim of this book that Hegel was right: our concepts or some of them anyway, are
inconsistent” (PRIEST, 2006, p. 4).

“I shall address the title question, and the answer I shall give is: maybe nothing much. Let me first
explain how, exactly, the question is to be understood. I shall interpret it to mean: What is wrong with
believing some contradictions? I emphasize the ‘some’; the question ‘What is wrong with believing all
contradictions is quite different, and, I am sure, has a quite different answer. It would be irrational to
believe that I am a fried egg. (why, we might argue about, but that this is so is not contentious). A
fortiori, it is irrational to believe that I am both a fried egg and not a fried egg. It is important to
emphasize this distinction right at the start, since the illicit slide between ‘some’ and ‘all’ is endemic
in discussions of the question” (PRIEST, 1998, p. 410).

“I am frequently asked for a criterion as to when contradictions are acceptable and when they are
not. It would be nice if there were a substantial answer to this question – or even if one could give a
partial answer, in the form of some algorithm to demonstrate that an area of discourse is contradiction
free. But I doubt that this is possible. Nor is this a matter for surprise. Few would now seriously
suppose that one can give an algorithm – or any other informative criterion – to determine when it is
rational to accept something. There is no reason why the fact that something has a certain syntactic
form – be it p Λ -p or anything else – should change this. One can determine the acceptability of any
given contradiction, as of anything else, only on its individual merits” (PRIEST, 1998, p. 423).

“Someone who rejects A cannot simultaneously accept it any more than a person can simultaneously
catch a bus and miss it, or win a game of chess and lose it. If a person is asked whether or not A, he can of
course say ‘Yes and no’. However this does not show that he both accepts and rejects A. It means that he

accepts both A and its negation. Moreover a person can alternate between accepting and rejecting a claim.
He can also be undecided as to which to do. But do both he can not” (PRIEST, 1989b, p. 618).

“The retention of pragmatic exclusion between assertion and denial seems a necessary foothold against
the charge of dialetheic inability to either champion or contest any position. But retention of that foothold
is peculiar as well. It is unclear, to begin with, why the argument should stop at this point. If dialetheism
has so much going for it, why stop it short of assertion and denial? It is also unclear that exclusion can be
restricted to the pragmatics of assertion and denial alone” (GRIM, 2004, p. 62).
