RULES AND TIPS

 Attend class: 20% of missed class will result in course failure.

 Be punctual. You will be marked late after 15 minutes: 4 days late = 1 absence. More than 30
minutes late = 1 absence.
 Be sure to bring all materials needed for the lesson: student book and dictionary. Photocopying
and sharing textbooks is NOT permitted.
 Make sure you do the independent work on the Speakout platform on a regular basis. If you do the
work from the very beginning, you will clarify doubts and reinforce what you are learning in class.
If you dedicate about 20 minutes per session, the work will be done by the end of each unit. Your
platform and Moodle grades in each term will reflect the work you do along the course.
 Choose optimal working conditions to do your independent work on the platforms; that will
improve your concentration and learning.
 Do all the activities on the platforms since the contents are taken into account in the evaluations
and if you do them, you will get better results.
 Put away your cell phone and/or computer during lessons unless directed otherwise by your
teacher.
 Phones out during the exam will result in a grade of ‘0’. Any type of cheating will result in a grade
of ‘0’.
 All work completed and turned in should be your OWN work, not corrected or completed b y a
friend/family member or taken from the Internet.
 Under no circumstances, students are able to keep the exams. They belong to the intellectual
property of the Languages Institute.
 If you are absent from class, you must present a validated doctor’s note or a validated excuse
from the university within three school days.
 If you are absent for any exam session, it may be taken only under the presentation of a
certificate from the University’s doctor or with an authorized letter from the Institute within
three school days.
 If a day is missed, the student is responsible to find out what was missed in class.
 Changing groups is not permitted, unless authorized by the Director of the Institute

To succeed in this process of language learning:

a. Participate actively in all tasks taking place during the course: autonomous learning exercises;
classroom oral and written exercises, laboratory sessions, video lessons, etc. REMEMBER:
Mistakes are GOOD! They help us to learn!
b. Get involved in extra academic activities organized and provided by the Language Institute:
tutorials, free laboratory sessions, immersion day, conversation club, practice in Moodle and
Speakout.
c. Take advantage of the audio program provided along with the textbook. This will be excellent
listening and pronunciation practice.
d. Attend tutoring sessions in case you have questions or need reinforcement on any topic studied
in class. You must register online on the website of the Institute 48 hours before the session. You
will receive a message confirming your appointment the following day.
