A very important issue concerning diversity is the difference between men and women at workplace.

As
the matter of global experience of employing people it is very important to point out that there have been a great
number of cases connected with discrimination. We consider this to be a vital problem even nowadays, in spite of
the change of the reasons for discrimination. If in the past it was a major problem for women to find a job and to
prove that they can provide results equal to men, in the present time the situation has quiet changed. In addition
to that women start getting benefits and are sometimes the only possible employees for a given workplace. Women
establish a very strong emotional contact with the client; at the same time, they are treated as being less
professional than their male colleagues. Male workers according to the opinion of the employers are more rational.
They complement and substitute the women’s emotional “contamination” by the rational aspect of the matter they
are working with. Due to this employer sometimes prefer to eliminate either the “emotional”, or the “rational”
factor and put “labels” on the employees taking their gender as an evaluating criterion. But nowadays everything
has changed and men and women perform each other’s work excellently. We have observed in practice this
difference, when a job, considered to be a “male job” was done perfectly by a woman but did not get the well-
earned recognition in the company. One of the psychological reasons for that, as we assume, is the incapability of
the authorities of the company to deal with a stereotype and change their ways according to the changing world
around them. So therefore, it is the lack of flexibility. Women nevertheless are treated with a higher loyalty in any
decent company. And sometimes their work results may be viewed as just needing some correction in comparison
to the same work presented by men that would be considered wrong.
But all these are exaggerated examples. We, believe, that the difference between men and women still
exists and women and the quality of their work nowadays displace men. Nevertheless, we have examined another
opinion that concerns women. Rose Mary Wentling suggested another point of view on the differences between
men and women at workplace. The author asserts that women are still experiencing difficulties in their workplaces.
The main arguments that are brought are the next: women are not given the standard of work performance when
they apply for a “male” job, therefore do not get the detailed and clear picture of their involvement; women are
not included in all the kinds of communication throughout a company; women lack the opportunity to” grow,
develop, and contribute to company profitability”. According to this point of view women are not given the
opportunity to introduce their ideas and innovations to the company’s functioning. But the main issue to work on
is that the expectations of the employers concerning women are different than the ones concerning men. Women
are ready to travel and move and transfer, and to make “the same commitment to the company as men aspiring
to leadership positions” due to the reassessment of the woman’s role in the society. Analyzing this different point
of view, we came to a conclusion that both men and women face gender difficulties at any kind of job. So therefore
we consider providing them with equal conditional vital for the benefit of the company itself in the first place. A
modern company should not pay attention to the gender attribute. Both men and women need to have career
advancement opportunities and counseling. Men and women are potential employees of any company, no matter
what position we are talking about.
From with combination of two points of view we get an understanding that both men and women have
examples of being not treated properly at their workplace in spite of having the required skills for the place. And
it is not possible to say that either men or women are facing greater difficulties in their professional lives. So it can
be said that the difference did not disappear, but it is not a single-sided issue. On the other hand, I would like to
include one of the most outstanding writer Nathaniel Hawthorne as he made a wonderful definition of the women
contribution to the world. What Nathaniel Hawthorne writes fits the contemporary society, too. Maybe this is the
reason it is so important to understand his description and attitude towards women. Nathaniel Hawthorne made
an outstanding work in depicting the character of a woman in his works. This makes it easy to assume that he was
a loving father and husband. His “interpretation” of a woman is very deep and his sympathy to women is easily
observed in his every single work. He reveals the real nature of women and tells the reader what is their power.
He sees this immense power in the ability to stay true to their feelings, to trust and to love. For the first time a
woman is shown as a “force”, as a power that opposes men’s rationalism and perception of the world. The image
of a woman in Hawthorne’s works is a calling to the men around. It is a calling to stop evaluating the world in
terms of rationalism and start feeling and valuing what they have and all the things that women do in order to
make them feel happy. Here, men are shown weak and inflexible, ignorant and impassive. Could be this is only a
unilateral point of view, nevertheless it is obvious that Hawthorne’s women are the ones that will sacrifice their
lives for the people they love and dedicate every second of their lived to them.
Analyzing Nathaniel Hawthorne’s works it is necessary to say that the image of women in them is
distinctively positive. He outlines their strong ability to dedicate themselves and to truly love. The biography of the
author has definitely influenced this point of view because a widowed mother raised him along with two sisters
two and later on he married a great woman and grew up two wonderful daughters. The examples of the suffering
women have to go through to survive gave him the base of believing that women are “spiritually stronger” and
possess the most important qualities for a human being – ability to love unconditionally and to do anything in the
name of trust and faith for the loved person. Nathaniel Hawthorne deeply respects women and proves it with his
every single work. The drama of his works concerning women is that their actions are not meritoriously valued and
stay imperceptible for the people around them. The definition of a woman by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a synthesis
of all the virtues and extreme endurance for the actions taken against them. Lastly, I would like to add this very
timely issue about women who have become victim of violence. The vested evidence and scientific data shows
that the production and consumption of violence tremendously harms the society in general and the people’s
personalities in particular. Violence destroys the beauty of souls, destroys personal and social morality, destroys
the family and causes aggression, violence and change of attitude towards women. According to the research of
Donnerstein, pornography and violence is depredating towards women and changes the men’s attitude towards
women for a sexually violent one (Anderson,2002). Violence constructs male expectations towards the acts of
violence over weak and unperfected beings. In the extent that woman is considered to be a delicate and weak
being, it is she who becomes the object of the sexually violent acts. Unfortunately, the violence in pornography is
defined through one thing: man experience the greatest pleasure being cruel and brutal to women during sex and
women in their turn like to be forced. Pornography converts women into sexual objects and creates a standards
according to which women have to be similar to pornography “actors” in their appearance and sexual desires to
obey men in order to be sexually appealing to their male partner. Pornography should be 100% banned, for people
indeed do not know what they are doing. It is so overwhelming to note that there have been many women around
the globe who made a vow to fight against any forms of women violence. Women who are in authorities continue
to encourage local law enforcement agencies to receive specialized training for dealing with domestic abuse, and
to devote resources to prevention of gender-based violence. Spirituality and morality are still alive!
