INTRODUCTION

English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the official
language in a large number of countries. In today’s global world, the importance of
English cannot be denied since English is the most common language that spoken
everywhere. It is estimated that the number of people in the world that use in English
to communicate on a regular basis is 2 billion. English is the dominant business
language and it has become almost a necessity for people to speak English if they are
to enter a global workforce. Research from all over the world shows that cross-border
business communication is most often conducted in English. Its importance in the
global market place therefore cannot be understated, learning English really can
change your life.

TASK 3

THE MISMATCH BETWEEN TEAHERS’S BELIEF AND CURRICULUM THAT HAS


AN IMPACT IN THE COMMUNICATIONAL SKILLS IN ENGLISH AMONG
STUDENTS.

In today’s global world, oral communication is very important. As we know,


English language become the primary language in the world. So, that is very important
to students to speak well in English in order to travel and communicate with other
people. The main factor lack of communication skill in English among the students
because the mismatch between teacher’s belief and curriculum. So I agreed with this
statement that the mismatch between teacher’s belief and curriculum has impact in
the communicational skills in English among the students.

In my opinion, the teacher still teach the students based on the textbook. Most
of the teacher still rely on the textbook as the main resources to teach the students in
English. For the system education in Malaysia, the teacher must have to teach based
on the syllabus in the textbook that are given by the Ministry Education of Malaysia.
Textbook still important and the main resources to teach the students but teacher must
also have independent to teach what the teacher belief and they have their own
strategies to interact the students. Teacher should teach students with the interactive
teaching and something new to interact students to learn and communicate in English.
For example, teacher should do many activities that can develop their oral
communication like discussion, tell a story and sing the song in English. With this
activities, the students will be happy to learn the English and they will also have
encourage to speak in English.

Besides, the curriculum designed to focus based on the exam oriented in order
to make students success in examination. The curriculum like textbook more focus to
develop students how to answer the question but it less in activity of oral
communication. Students will lack to speak in English if they do not have much
opportunity to do the oral communication. For example, most of the teacher always
give the exercise about grammar, vocabulary from the textbook in order to make them
good when they do the essay in examination. This is because our examination focus
more in essay but not oral communication. Most of the teacher cannot do or not have
much time to do activities oral communication because they have to finish the syllabus.
Teacher belief that the oral communication is very important to make them good in
English. They have no choice but to follow the syllabus. Surely this will lack the
communication among the students.

Furthermore, this curriculum also effect the teacher pedagogical techniques.


The teacher must follow the pedagogical techniques that designed by the curriculum.
They just have to do one learning ways like reading and give explanation to students
that are more focus in examinations. This will lack of teacher to do many activities like
tell a story and oral communication activities. Surely the mismatch between the
teacher’s belief and curriculum has an impact in the communication among the
students.

Last but not least, the system education are more focus in examination. The
mismatch between teacher’s belief and curriculum surely has an impact in the
communication. Teacher has their own pedagogical techniques in order to teach
students to be an excellent students in the many aspect including the oral
communication. So it must not have mismatch between teacher’s belief and curriculum
in order to make our system education top of the world.
TASK 4

HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER BASED ON EXPERIENCE AS A SECOND


LANGUAGE LEARNER

Nowadays English is one of the most spoken languages in the world.


Increasingly people are getting in the learning of English since it is really important to
both the personal and professional level. Learning English is very important in order
to travel and communicate with other people in the world. In the era of development,
we now are exposed to English all the time especially when we use the internet. It is
important for teacher to know the strategies and tips to be an effective teacher in order
to make the students good in English. Throughout my experience as a second
language learner, there are several strategies or ways to be an effective teacher.

First of all, to become an effective teacher, teacher must always have


innovativeness in their teaching of English. An innovative teacher dares to go off the
track in order to be on the track. It is important to make the students understand.
Moreover, student like teacher who are innovative especially in subject of English.
English has become the primary and secondary language of the many country in the
world. So, this is very important for teacher to be innovative to teach English. For
example, to be an effective and innovative teacher, teacher must always introduced
changes and make new idea. It means teacher can also give many definition to make
the students understand. For example, the definition of the nouns and make new or
fresh idea to teach students to understand noun. For weak students, teacher can also
create something new idea to make easy for students to understand English.
Furthermore, an innovative teacher must always daring to be different and being
unique, make experimenting new thing and always being fresh. All of this tips are very
useful for teacher to be an effective teacher as a second language learner.
Beside, to be an effective teacher as a second language learner, teacher must
have interaction. A teacher who always promote interaction in the English class can
help their students to develop their communication skills and to develop their
vocabulary in English. As we know, communication skill is very important today, there
are many country in the word used the English as their primary language. So if we
want to go to their country, we must speak in English in order to communicate with
them. Teacher can do many activities that can interact the students. For example,
teacher can do many activities in the class like roleplays, group discussions, mock
interviews and singing. When the teacher this activities, teacher can develop their
speaking and communication skill in order to speak well in English. Teacher can also
motivate their students, create opportunities and activities to interact with one another
through communication. Surely teacher can be an effective teacher as second
language teacher.

Moreover, to be an effective teacher, teacher should knew their student’s


English background. Most of student learn English as a second language like
Malaysia, Indonesia and others. So this is important for teacher to know their
background of English. Some students even cannot speak in English because they
never speak English with their family. So, this is the job of teacher to help this students
to learn grammar and learn to speak English. For example, if the students weak in
pronunciation, teacher can help them to teach pronounce with the easy or best way.
Teacher can also show some video in English and ask students to repeat the
pronunciation. So the students can develop their speaking skill with the English
pronounce correctly with the easy way.

Furthermore, in order to be an effective teacher, teacher must create an


environment to learn English. Teacher must be able to create something new and
make student want to learn English. For example, teacher must encourage them to
speak English with the teacher and among their friends. Teacher must develop their
confident to speak English and correct them if they make a mistake. When the teacher
create this environment, students will have confident and develop their speaking skill.
They will not shy anymore because most of their friend speak in English. Teacher can
also do many activities in the class such as singing the English song, tell a stories in
English. With this method, surely the students have confident level to speak well in
English.
In conclusion, the most important to be an effective teacher is every teacher
must have as a passion and love for the students that you teach especially children
and your profession which also means dedication about long hours, studying, paying
for further development and this happens because teaching is not only a job for a living
it is also living for the job teach people to success in the world and hereafter.

CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, from this assignment and tasks, I am enable to create a


graphic organiser after reading an on teachers’ belief and curriculum. I am also enable
to write my opinion about the article on teachers’ belief and curriculum and another
descriptive essay on how to be an effective teacher based on students’ experience as
a second language learners. As a trainer teacher, it is very important for me to learn
English and also speak English in order to be a good and awesome teacher.
