2. What skills have I learned about processing, editing, presenting and evaluating
information?
As a communication major at Worcester State, I have been “through the wringer”, if you
will, of all sorts of courses surrounding processing, editing, presenting, etc. In the class
Digital Storytelling, we used software and were taught how to process and edit content in
order to create different projects. In Public Speaking, the main focus was to learn how to
present in a professional manner while working on skills such as calming nerves, spacing out
our words, and our presenting mannerisms. My favorite course, Media Criticism, was all
about evaluating information and being able to evaluate and break down information in the
media.
3. How prepared am I to effectively gauge the effects of communication and mass media?
Focusing on Public Relations and Advertising, I feel that I am prepared to gauge the
effects of communication and mass media. In my PR and advertising courses, I have seen
how different media messages can both increase and decrease the effectiveness of a message,
and how you can manipulate a message to have it come across the way you want it to.
5. How prepared am I for careers in the industries of communication and mass media?
I feel extremely prepared for a career in the communication/mass media industry after I
finish school. I have been given excellent tools as well as learned from an excellent panel of
intelligent professors over the last four years while achieving my undergraduate degree.
