1. Scope
This specification applies to the requirements of controlled substances for use in selecting
materials for the parts which are delivered to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and/or related
companies for complete vehicles including any direct and indirect materials for vehicles or
parts. This is based on the related regulations shown in paragraph 7 .

2. Effective Date
This specification applies to the parts for the vehicles which are produced after 1 January 2003.
Excluded are service parts of vehicles whose mass production is already stopped.

3. Definition
(1) Controlled substances for use
Substances to be prohibited or reduced, such as hazardous substances or environmentally
. undesirable substances which are restricted in order to protect human health and the
environment; they are either not permitted to be contained in materials and parts, or may be
used only for a specific purpose.

4. Requirements
The controlled substances shall not be used according to EU Directive 2000/53/EC shown
in paragraph 7. Regarding Annex II in 2000/53/EC, the amendment on a regular basis shall be
obeyed. For the reference Appendix 1 shows the amendment (2002/525/EC) which was decided
by commission on June 2002.
In case of materials and components which are exempted until expiry data, the delivery of the
parts shall be started at least 6 months before their expiry date.

s. Supplier's Responsibility
(1) The supplier shall be obliged to fulfill all the requirements contained in this specification
regardless ff it is mentioned in the drawing or not.
Unless otherwise specified, the supplier shall report with report format on Appendix 2.
(2) In response to amending of the related directives, laws, regulations, administrative
provisions, etc., the supplier shall fulfill all the requirements contained in the latest ones.
(3) When the use of controlled substances can not be avoided for improving the safety,
reducing the emission, improving the fuel consumption, etc. , and it can be proven
that equivalent alternative substances are not available, the supplier shall control the
application of controlled substances, and shall report to Purchasing Department and related
Designing Department for obtaining the approval in advance whether there is a request or
not. In case of non compliance to a requirement in this specification without approval, the
supplier shall have full responsibility.

6. Designation
This specification shall be designated in drawings as follows:

Even when this specification is not designated in the drawing, the supplier shall be obliged to
fulfil all the requirements contained in this specification.

-A maximum concentration value up to 0,1% by weight and per homogeneous material. for lead,
hexavalent chromium and mercury and up to 0,01% by weight per homogeneous material for

provided it is not intentionally introduced.
- A maximum concentration value up to 0,4% by weight of lead in copper intended for friction
materials in brake linings shall be tolerated until 1.7.2007 provided it is not intentionally introduced.
-The re-use of parts of vehicles which were already on the market at the date of expiry of an
exemption is allowed without limitation since it is not covered by Article 4(2)a.
-Until 1.7.2007, new replacement parts intended for repa ir of parts of vehicles exempted from the
provisions of Article 4(2)(a) shall also benefit f rom the same exemptions.
