Unit 3
Exercise 1 page 43, number 1 – 8 (pilih 4)
1. The diagram shows a simple cell which consist of zinc container and carbon rod.
2. The carbon rod suspend in the centre container which surround by manganese dioxie inside
the linen bag.
3. There is space between zinc container and manganese dioxide which fill with ammonium
chloride gel.
4. The carbon rod suspend from the lid which cover the apparatus.

Exercise 2 page 44, number 1 – 5 (pilih 3)

1. The key and the cylinder then rotate back to their original position.
1. The key pulled out of the lock.
2. When an incorrect key is used, the pins raise (not) to the correct height, and the cylinder
cannot rotate.

Exercise 3 page 44
The armature of the relay pivots around the knife-edge. When an electric current passes
through the coil, the end of the armature A moves towards the core. The end of the armature B is
therefore raise, and it pushes the lid contact spring, which bend upwards and touches the using
contact.
When the electric current stops passing towards the coil, the end of the armature A moves at
far from the core. The end B is lower and the contact spring bend back to its original position.

Unit 4

a. Exercise 1
a) Steel with a high carbon content is more ductile than steel with a low carbon
content.
b) Dead mild steel is more soft than mild steel
c) Medium carbon steel is less ductile than mild steel
d) High carbon steel is less ductile than dead mild steel and same with mild steel
e) Medium carbon steel less ductile than mild steel
b. Exercise 2
a) Silver is a bright shiny white solid metal
b) Water is a flexible transparant liquid
c) Copper is a hard tough reddish solid metal
d) Iron is a strong greyish black solid metal

b) When water is cold to 0°C it freezes
c) When steel is hard it become brittle
d) When hardened steel is heated to 270°C it turn purple
e) When water is heated above 100oC, it’s vaporizes

Unit 5

a. Exercise 1
1. Matter are exist three states.
2. All matter can be divide compounds, mixtures, elements
3. All matter are made up of atoms molecules
4. Atom consists of nucleus one or more electrons.
5. Electrons are revolve around nucleus atom.
b. Exercise 2
1. If block of ice is heated above 0°C it will melt.
2. If oxygen are cooled to -182.97°C it will liquefy.
3. If rectangular metal block is heated it will volume increase.
4. If north pole of magnet is brought near south pole of another magnet the poles will
attract each other .
c. Exercise 3
1. Since mercury freezes at about -39°C, therefore a mercury thermometer cannot be used
below this temperature.
2. Since temperatures in laboratory work are often higher than 78°C, therefore an alcohol
thermometer cannot be used for this work.
3. Since a mercury thermometer can be used between -39°C and 357°C, therefore it can
be used for laboratory work.

1. Place a record on the turnable .
2. Start the motor
3. Lift the pick up head
4. Move the pick up toward the edge of the record.
5. Position the head above the begining of the record
6. Lower the record carefully.
7. Lift the head.
8. Return the head to its original position.
9. Stop the turntable
10. Remove the record.
b. Exercise 2
1. Therefore the armature attraced to the core
2. Since the hammer attached to the armature then the bell struck
3. When the armature moves towards the core, therefore the contact leaves adjusting
srew.
4. When the armature moves towards core then contact leaves adjusting screw.
5. Therefore circuit broken
6. Since no current throgh coil so no magnetic field.
7. Therefore armature returns to original position
8. When the armature touches screw then electrical circuit completed.
