INTROVERTED PERSON: AN APATHETIC AND
LONER PERSON?
Humans are creatures that are reciprocally related to other humans. All
elements of society have the function of maintaining the stability and compactness
of a group. In other words humans depend on other humans.
Every human being has a different character and personality, a Swiss
psychiatrist named C.G. Jung coined the term introvert, then Hans Eysenck
developed further introverts in detail. Differences can be a unifying factor also a
split factor, so that social awareness is needed in every human being. Social
awareness is related to one's awareness of social situations experienced by oneself
and others, so that individuals can become aware and aware of things that are
happening around them, such as about what other people do, whether someone is
involved in a conversation and can be disturbed , who is around, and what is
happening (Prasolova-Forland, 2002). If all community members have high social
awareness, the harmonious life of the community will be realized.
Adolescents who have introverted personalities tend to prefer activities
that are not related to many people and have flat emotions, (Ghufron & Riswanita,
2010 psychological theories) introverts typically feel less
comfortable speaking than they do listening, they choose their words wisely,
according to Buelow. “We only speak when we have something to say, so
there is a higher chance that we will have an impact with our words,” she
says.
Introverts tend to interact with one person at a time. Instead of being
arrogant or cold, introverts generally like other people, but are more appreciative of
time together, and are concerned with quality over the quantity of relationships.
Introverts like to be with their friends and closest family, also spend time
in crowded places such as malls or recreation areas, but they are not comfortable
being in the crowd for a long time, because they feel their energy is drained, so they
need time for themselves more than extroverts, such as reading books, watching
movies in their own rooms, or spending time in open spaces that are not crowded
like gardens and libraries
Social skills and introversion are actually not interrelated. The
characteristics of one's introversion can actually contribute to success, because
introverts are usually more thorough and organized in conducting research, reading,
planning, and other tasks that require concentration and calm.
