Dairy Farming

INTRODUCTION
In our India Dairying is an important source of subsidiary income tosmall/marginal farmers and agricultural
labours.
Inaddition to milk, the manure from animals provides a goodsource of organic matter for improving soil
fertility andcrop yields. The gobar gas produced from the dung can be used as fuel for domestic purposes and also
for running engines and drawingwater from wells.
The surplus fodder and agricultural by-products are gainfully utilised for feeding the animals. The
draught power for farm operations and transportation is supplied by bullocks in case of very small land holdings.
Sinceagriculture is mostly seasonal, there is a possibility of finding employment throughout the year through dairy
farming. Thus, dairy also provides employment throughout the year. The main beneficiaries of dairy programs are
small/marginal farmers.

SCOPE OF DAIRYFARMING
India is endowed with the largest livestock population in the world. It accounts for about 57.3%of the
World’s buffalo population and 14.7 per cent of the cattle population(Reference).
The value of output of milk is Rs. 3,05,484 crore in 2011-
12.The total milk production in the country is 127.9 million tonnes per annum at the end of the Eleventh Plan (2011-
12) and the demand is expected to be 180 milliontonnes by 2020. To achieve this demand annualgrowth rate in milk producti
on has to be increasedfrom the present 2.5 % to 5%. The Annual growth ratefor production of milk is about 5% in 2011-12.
Thus there is a tremendous scope/potential for increasing the milk production.

OBJECTIVES.
 To supply pure milk to the customer
 To produce milk at reasonable cost with high fat.
 To educate farmers in my village who are interested to start dairy farms, but don’t have any
background knowledge, in the selection of good breedslike HF, JERSEY, GIR COWS and
MURRAH & fodders like CO-3,CO-4, APBN-1&Concentrated feed.
 Become a role model to farmers in our surrounding villages and othersby adopting
integrated farming systems where in-organic cultivation supported by the dairy farm with
vegetable production through good mulching and crop management systems can be
followed

EXTENTION BENEFITS FROM THE PROJECT

high Through the establishment of Agri-clinic I can offer services to farmers regarding problems in
the profits deferent stages of establishing dairy farms and also in the successful maintenance of
dairyfarms for.

LOCATION
The unit will be established in my village and Mandal Talamadugu (District) Adilabad my village
is nearest to school, hostel and adilabad city. The location of the farm is well connected by all
roads, market, veterinary hospital and area is suitable for irrigation and electricity. The dairy farm
will be located nearer to the field set apart for fodder cultivation, and the dairy animals will have
the luxury to move freely in the open space. Experienced labour is available at a reasonable cost
throughout the year.

COMMERCIAL VIABILITY OF THE PROJECT

The buffaloes are to be purchased from local market and organized breeders. Plenty of water will
available as there is a borewell nearer to the place where dairy is planned. Green fodder can be
grown in my field itself, throughouttheyear. Concentrate feed can be prepared by buying ther
material and mixingatoptimal proportions. The veterinary assistant is available in the village to
check the health condition of the animals and if any serious health problem occurs, doctor is
available at a distance of 1km. Medicines are available at the veterinary hospital located
inB.Talamadugu and Rural Livestock Unit (RLU) present in my village. Artificial insemination
services are also available in the RLU in my village.Marketingstrategyis to directly market the milk
centers & hostels present in the
Adilabad, which is 15 km from my village. The government provides insurance facility for dairy
animals, so it will support the dairy farm owners. NABARD is providing 44% subsidy for this
project through AC&ABC scheme which can give assurance for the support from family and the
bankers.

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF PROJECT

 Graded Murrah Buffaloes are highly adaptable to the local climatic conditions and show immense
potential in development of milk.
 Own agricultural land is used for the fodder production which reducescost on fodderproduction and
transportation.
 Brush cutter reduces the labour charges for harvesting green fodder and chaff cutter will reduce the
fodder waste in the dairy farm and overall cost can be reduced.
 The skills gained by my family and my knowledge about the management of dairy farm can be
helpful in successful running of the dairy.
 Taking all these into consideration, the project is technically feasible and commercially viable.
