This assignment is designed to prepare the students with the necessary language skills for
writing a project report. The assignment introduces students to Project research writing
through means of reading from relevant sources. They will learn to locate, use and
organize their information and data to execute the task. Writing skills such as
paraphrasing, summarizing, citing, organizing, writing and editing will be incorporated as
they complete the project report.
At the end of the project, students are required to submit a folio, which contains several
related documents that reflect the process of writing a project report.
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. Students will work in groups of FOUR or FIVE.
2. Students have to identify any mechanism or area to be proposed OR studied. For
example:
a) Mechanism to be proposed: Smart card for UTeM students and staff
b) Mechanism to be studied (evaluated & analysed): Digital vs. Conventional
Camera
3. Students may also carry out surveys in the course of completing the project report.
4. Students have to select at least 3 articles (one from the Internet and two from other
sources). All articles are to be photocopied and included in the folio.
5. Students need to synthesize information (and paraphrase) from the articles to support
their study.
6. Students need to ensure that the folio will contain: -
A) The Proposal of the Project Report
B) The Project Report
C) Secondary Sources (Articles)
before submitting the complete folio at the end of the project.
7. For all submission (excluding secondary sources), the students are to use Times New
Roman, size 12, and 1.5 spacing.
8. Ensure that students are to use ONLY one side of the page.
9. The deadline for submitting the complete folio is Week 14.
10. The folio should be ring-bound.
11. Include a softcopy of the project report (CD).
12. Any late submissions will be penalised a deduction of 50% from the scores of
the project.

DETAILS FOR EACH SUBMISSION:
A) Proposal of the Project Report (10%)
Produce a Proposal for a project report.
b. The length of the project report should not be more than 15 A4 pages,
excluding the Prefatory and the Endings.

c. Please follow the format provided in APPENDIX A to prepare the Project
Report.
d. The pages for Prefatory should be numbered with small Roman numerals
(i, ii, iii, etc)
e. The pages for the Body of report should be numbered with Arabic
numerals (1, 2, 3, etc)
f. All the chapters and subheadings should be numbered with Arabic
numerals. For e.g.:
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
1.2 Objectives
1.3 Scope of the experiment/research
g. The title of each section need to be typed in capital letters, bold and
centralized.
h. The submission date for the project report (with the whole content of the
folio) is by Week 14.
