A Time When Technology Made My Life More Difficult

The way we live today is significantly different from the way our forefathers lived fifty
or sixty years ago. Thanks to all the technology we have these days, we got just about every
amenities we need to live a comfortable life. What is technology? According to Oxford
Dictionary (2018), technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes,
especially in industry. By using technology, we can accomplish various tasks in our daily lives.
Technology can also be described as products and processes used to simplify our daily lives.
Indeed, we use technology to extend our abilities and make people the most crucial part of
any technological system. However, it is vital to know if technology is well applied, it benefits
humans, but if we misused technology, it will be a double edged sword to humans.

Without further ado, I would like to share about a time when technology made my life
more difficult. I cannot deny that technology had always help me to solve many problems but
sometimes it just complicates me. As a student, mobile phone is a technology that I often
used. I bring mobile phone wherever I went to appropriate certain places such as in the class.
Indeed, mobile phone benefits in education system. I usually use my mobile phone to organise
my schedule, share notes and connect with my family and friends. By using mobile phone to
find information is also much faster than using laptop and computer. However, it was a tougher
life for me as mobile phone had become my best friend before this. In fact, mobile phone was
a friend but it also a wolf who in sheep clothing.

Based on my experience, mobile phone has made my life more complicated. However,
can anybody now imagine of a world which does not have any access to mobile phone or any
modern technologies? The truth is we cannot. I agree that it is not easy to live without mobile
phone as I used to enjoy it. As a student, mobile phone always affect to my studies and daily
plans. There are reasons for me to say those things. These days, mobile phone is always
available under my fingertips with the click of a button or a few taps on a glass screen. Without
any second thought, I will start playing my favourite game within seconds or send a short text
in the blink of an eye. Eventually, I stop doing homework or revision and start playing games
and scrolling social media using the hush phone.

Almost every day I will go to bed at one or two in the early morning. Why do I sleep
late? It was all about mobile phone. I realised that I should get some rest to recharge my
energy by having enough sleep. However, I did not know why every single day I will check my
mobile phone if there were any notifications or messages in social media before I went to
sleep. When focusing on mobile phone, I did not feel the time passed because I was fully
concentrated on it. Sometimes, I chose to chat with my friends in the early morning and it

made me go to bed very late. Do you know what happens if I sleep late? On the next day, I
felt tired and find it hard to pay full attention in class. When lecturers gave his or her talk, I felt
sleepy and fatigue. In the end, I cannot understand what the lecturers had taught.

In addition, mobile phone has affected my study time as it always made me lose my
time. Mobile phone was a big distraction and it did not let me concentrate on my studies. On
the face of it, mobile phone might seems like hard thing to hate. In fact, this was making me
lazier and causing me to procrastinate more. Procrastination is a “fun in the moment” activity
that just about I have been involved in at all the time. When I have something to be done, I
always ended up putting it off. I was just thinking to make study life more enjoyable by doing
something that more interesting but I was wrong. I admitted that I never thought about the
negative sides while enjoying and having fun tapping on mobile phone.

Until one day I realised that mobile phone was the greatest detriments to me. Due to
procrastination, I forgot about my homework even I did not do any revision as I obsessed with
it. The bad habit made me regret because I got low marks in every killer subject in secondary
school. I felt bad to my parents as they sent me to school for me to achieve my ambition but I
was the one who killed my dream. Since then, I tried to make the right actions by keeping my
distance from mobile phone. I always locked my phone and turned off data and Wi-Fi mode
while studying. I even pass it to my friends or my sibling if I was doing revision. However, I still
make time to play mobile phone as it is important for me to know what have happened around
me especially things related to studies.

To sum up, there are two sides to every coin and how we use our mobile phones
depend upon us. Indeed, mobile phone is an important and popular innovation of technology
and has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is up to us whether we use it for learning
or productive purposes that can add value to our life or does not add value and waste our
time. At this point, we cannot blame mobile phone as a technology that ruin our life because
choices are ours. We are the one who plan what should we do in our daily life. Therefore, be
a smart user of mobile phone because it is a technology that has been created to make our
life easier. Actually, we should thank the technology because it always solve our problems but
who make it complicated? Definitely humans because we misused it.
