Bienvenido estimado lector. Ante todo agradecemos que tenga en sus manos un ejemplar de nuestra revista Utsaha,
una mirada al mundo espiritual.

“Utsaha” significa entusiasmo. Una vida enfrentada sin entusiasmo, con la sólo contemplación pasiva del devenir
diario, es quizás la causa de que la rutina se torne tediosa e incluso nociva.

No obstante, existen formas de ver el mundo provenientes de las culturas milenarias de oriente, en que la rutina y
en general el diario vivir, no son un complejo en lo absoluto. Nuestra sincera invitación es a explorarlas con mayor
profundidad.

Recordemos que estas perspectivas de oriente nos han sido ocultadas o maquilladas por siglos. Particularmente
la rica cultura de India y en especial su literatura, fue menospreciada y reducida por mongoles, musulmanes y
europeos, sucesivamente.

En la actualidad, y gracias a la evidente influencia del modelo de vida americano, nosotros también engrosamos
esta lista al desconocer y limitar aquel conocimiento que proviene desde más allá del atlántico y el mediterráneo.

La milenaria cultura védica de India tiene aportes significativos en las más diferentes esferas del conocimiento
humano. Desde la arquitectura, presente en el Vastu Veda, hasta la filosofía del Bhagavad-Gita, pasando por la
medicina, el arte y la epistemología.

Sin embargo, en términos generales, estas perspectivas no se plantean como una sustitución a la vida que conocemos,
sino más bien se dirigen a recordar la relevancia del cultivo del espíritu humano.

Nuestro aporte como revista es entregar una pincelada a los diferentes aspectos de esta basta sabiduría y sus
aplicaciones al mundo moderno. Muchas gracias.

Welcome, dear reader. Before all, we want to thank you for holding in your hands an issue of our magazine,
Utsaha, a look at the spiritual world.

“Utsaha” means enthusiasm. A life faced without enthusiasm, faced only with a passive contemplation of the daily
happenings is probably the cause for the rutine to turn boring or even harmful.

Nevertheless, there are world views coming from millenary eastern cultures in which rutine and daily life are no
complex at all. We hearty invite you to explore them more deeply.

Let´s remember that these eastern perspectives have been hidden or misrepresented to us for centuries. India´s
rich culture and literature in particular, has been scorned and reduced by mongolians, muslims and europeans
succesively.

In the present day, thanks to the evident influence of the american lifestyle model, We also add up to this list by
being unaware of and limit that knowledge that comes beyond the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The millenary vedic culture of India has significant contributions in the different fields of human knowledge.
From architecture, as presented in the Vastu Veda, to the philosophy of Bhagavad-Gita and also medicine, art and
epistemology.

However, these views are generally not presented as a substitute of the lives we are living but they are aimed at
remembering the relevance of the cultivation of the human spirit.

Our contribution as a magazine es to deliver a glimpse of the different aspects of this wide wisdom and it´s

En representación de ISKCON-Chile (Sociedad Internacional

Bhaktivedanta Swami, más conocido como Srila Prabhupada.
Srila Prabhupada viajó desde India a Estados Unidos a

Krishna Consciousness” (ISKCON) cuyo propósito principal

estudiantes miles de platos vegetarianos que han sido ofrecidos a Dios (prasadam). También tenemos diversas
actividades de educación en nuestra sede en Santiago y un programa de distribución gratuita de prasadam (comida
vegetariana ofrecida a Dios gracias al programa “Food for life”) el cual funciona sistemáticamente todos los sábados.

A largo plazo, queremos estar presente en cada una de las regiones de este país entregando la conciencia de Krishna
y realizando todas las actividades antes mencionadas y muchas otras que vayan en directo beneficio de la sociedad.

Su Divina Gracia A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada es uno de los más
grandes exponentes de la sabiduría
de la India milenaria. Nació el 1
de noviembre 1896 en Calcuta, el
nombre que le dieron sus padres fue
Abhay Charan De. En el año 1922
y en esa misma ciudad conoció
a su Maestro Espiritual: Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Saravasti Goswami,
quien desde un principio le dio la
misión de difundir el conocimiento
védico en el idioma inglés.
Srila Prabhupada consagró toda
su vida para hacer realidad la
instrucción de su Maestro. Antes de
viajar a occidente ya había escrito
un comentario sobre “El Bhagavad-

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
is one of the biggest exponents
of the millenary wisdom of India.
He was born November 1st, 1896
in Kolkata, his parents named him
Abhay Charan De. In 1922 also

Saraswati Goswami, who from
the very beginning gave him the
mission of distributing the Vedic
knowledge in English.
Srila Prabhupada dedicated his
life to make true the instruction
of his spiritual master. Before
traveling to the West, he had
already written a commentary on
“The Bhagavad-Gita”, the most
important Vedic book.
In 1944 Prabhupada himself,
launched a bimonthly magazine in
English called “Back to Godhead”
published later in Spanish as “De

Srila Prabhupada began work
on his life’s masterpiece: a
multivolume translation and
commentary on the 18,000-verse

philosophical learning and
devotion, the Gaudiya Vaisnava

married life, and four years later
he adopted the vanaprastha
(retired) order to devote more

time to his studies and writing.
Srila Prabhupada traveled to the
holy city of Vrndavana, where he
lived in very humble circumstances
in the historic medieval temple
of Radha-Damodara. There he
engaged for several years in deep
study and writing. He accepted the
renounced order of life (sannyasa)
in 1959.
Srila Prabhupada came to the
United States, in 1965, to present
the knowledge of the Vedas, to
fulfill the mission of his spiritual
master.

Ayurveda
or the science of life

Yoga instructure and student of Ayurveda
Ayurveda means “Knoledge about life”. Another and more specific
meaning can be “the science of Life”. Briefly, it talks about the art
of living in a consciuos way integrating Nature.
Perhaps, Ayurveda is the most ancient hilling system in the world.
Its roots come from the Vedic ege in India, since more than 5.000
years ago, that is way it is called “the mother of all treatment”.
This system treats mind, body and spirit and it is related to the
profound yogic visión about Life and consciousness. Nowadays
it is though as a medical practice through the whole India in ayurvedic
schools and hospitals. It is recognized by WHO as a health system.
The medicines, mainly plants, are selected according to their capacity of
harmonizing the balance between the pacient and the basic influences of life
such as diet, work and family live.
Ayurveda also shows us that nature is present inside us too, in five elements:
earth, water, fire, air and ether; thus, the different combination of these five
elements constitutes the doshas or biotypes (physical constitution) of each
person.
The main doshas are: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. In some cases is possible that a
combination of two or even three of them be present.
The Vata dosha is compound by air and ether, the Pitta dosha by water and fire
and the Kapha dosha by water and earth. Once we understand the composition
and nature of each dosha we can work on our beings by food, massages,
herbs, asanas (yoga postures) the chant of mantras (audible vibrations able
to free our minds), that is why, Ayurveda proposes us a great posibility to the
integral healing of human being meanwhile it is an important tool for self-
knowledge.
In this contemporary world it is essential for human being to find moments
of pace of mind, spaces that allow us to connect us with our real essence
as espirtual beings, in this way, Ayurveda propueses us to live a simple life
changing our old habits by some new and more useful ones to feel in harmony.
One of the habits we should incorporate to our lives is, for example, to adopt
a vegetarian diet, to feed us with heathy food, since to have a vegetarian diet
is one of the best options of preventive health care, also it contributes to
have a possitive state of mind and to be in a favourable surrunding for the
development of self realization.
The chant of mantras is also another poweful tool to change behavior and
mental patterns, especially the chant of Maha Mantra Hare Krishna: Hare
Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare; Hare Rama, Hare Rama,
Rama Rama, Hare Hare. All of this is a process that with diary practice will
make our lives sublime.
That is all now, in the second issue of this magazine we will talk about the
espiritual therapies in the Ayurveda.

 Hacia una psicología más espiritual

Psicología es un concepto derivado
de la filosofía griega occidental,
literalmente se traduce como una
palabra compuesta por psiquis:
“alma”, y logos: “estudio”. Por
lo tanto, psicología significa
el “estudio del alma”. A través
del tiempo, la psicología ha ido
mutando su objeto de estudio,
reemplazando el alma por el estudio de
la mente, llegando incluso, en los enfoques
provenientes de la neuropsicofisiología,
a reducir el tema principal al estudio de
las partes y funciones del cerebro.
En cambio, la sabiduría védica
proveniente de la India ancestral, ha
preservado durante miles de años su
objeto de estudio: El Atma (alma). No
cediendo a la influencia del enfoque
reduccionista, mecanicista y materialista
de la psicología occidental tradicional.
Aunque la psicología tradicionalmente
no está definida como un estudio
separado de la filosofía védica, es posible
encontrar desarrollos de alto contenido
psicoespiritual en muchos tratados de
filosofía védica. Definiciones y conceptos
muy claros en cuanto a lo que es el alma,
la mente, los estados de conciencia, la
raíz de los trastornos mentales y el
tratamiento para la cura de éstos.
Para referirnos a todos los elementos
presentes en la extensa literatura
védica que hacen referencia a
conceptualizaciones alusivas al estudio
la psicología, hemos creado el concepto
de psicología védica.
Desde la perspectiva de la psicología
védica el alma o ser (atma) estaría
cubierta por dos cuerpos: Uno grueso
y otro de naturaleza sutil. Ambos
considerados materiales. El cuerpo
grueso estaría conformado por una
combinación de 5 elementos (tierra,
agua, fuego, aire, espacio o éter) y el
cuerpo sutil consistente en la mente,
el intelecto y el ego falso.
Estos cuerpos estarían cubriendo
nuestra verdadera naturaleza
espiritual. Desde el punto de vista
psicológico védico el real problema se
centra en la identificación corporal, en
otras palabras, identificar el ser con
el cuerpo grueso y sutil, creer que
somos este cuerpo y esta mente
material. Esta identificación
corpórea sería la causa de
todos los padecimientos
del ser humano.
Más allá de estos
cuerpos materiales
existiría el alma
(atma), cuya
naturale za
es espiritual
y que estaría
conformada por tres
cualidades fundamentales
e inmateriales: Sat:
eternidad; Cit: facultad
cognoscitiva o conciencia
y Ananda: potencia
dadora de placer. Al
identificarse con ella
(el alma), se alcanzaría un
estado de autorrealización
o, en términos más exactos,
de realización del ser y esto
produciría un bienestar en todos
los niveles (psico-fisico-espiritual).
¿Cuáles son los métodos y medios
para alcanzar este estado de
conciencia espiritual original,
donde uno se libera de la gran gama
de perturbaciones ocasionadas
por la mente fuera de control?
Los Vedas (tratados filosóficos
de la India) mencionan diferentes
procesos de acuerdo a la naturaleza
psicofísica individual para alcanzar la

trascendencia. Uno de los más
famosos y difundidos en Occidente
es el sistema de yoga. También
existen otros sistemas menos
conocidos por nosotros tales
como el estudio analítico de los
diversos elementos que conforman
la naturaleza material y espiritual
(filosofía Sankhya), el estudio de
las sagradas escrituras reveladas,
la ejecución de austeridades
(tapasya), etc.
Actualmente existen trabajos
de investigación muy profundos
en el ámbito de psicología
transpersonal, que muestran una
metodología práctica y accesible
para poder alcanzar un estado
de conciencia espiritual. Estos
estudios reciben el nombre de
OIDATERAPIA, cuya traducción
sería “la cura a través del
conocimiento espiritual”. En este
sistema de psicoterapia se plantea
que la verdad universal es una,
pero que experimenta diferentes
adaptaciones de acuerdo al tiempo,
lugar y circunstancias en donde
sea expuesta, en otras palabras,
la verdad espiritual que plantean
los Indios en sus escrituras (Los
Vedas) es correlativa a lo expuesto
por la Biblia en el mundo occidental
y a su vez por los Musulmanes en
el Corán.
A pesar de que en este sistema
terapéutico se plantea una unidad
en las verdades espirituales de
las diversas doctrinas religiosas,
también se plantea la idea de la
diversidad, dando a entender que
existe una unidad y diferencia
simultánea. Este concepto

The Vedic wisdom from the
ancient India has preserved during

Though, traditionally psychology
is not defined as a separated study
from the Vedic philosophy, it is
possible to find developments
with high psychospiritual contain
in many agreements of Vedic
philosophy. Definitions and very
clear concepts about what is soul,
mind, the states of conscience,
mental disorders root and their
treatment.
To refer to all the present elements
in the extensive Vedic literature
that make reference to allusive
conceptualizations of psychology
study, we have created the concept
of Vedic psychology.
From the perspective of Vedic
psychology; the soul (atma) would
be covered by two bodies: A
thick one and a fine nature one.
Both considered materials.
The thick body would
be shaped by a
combination of 5
elements (earth,
water, fire, air,
space or ether) and
the fine nature
body consist of mind, intellect
and false ego. These bodies would
be covering our real spiritual
nature. From the psychological
Vedic point of view the real
problem is to focus on the corporal
identification, in other words, to
identify the human being with
the thick and fine nature body,
believing we are this body and
this material mind. This corporeal
identification would be the reason
of all human being sufferings.
Beyond these material bodies
would exist the soul (atma), whose
nature is spiritual and would be
shaped by three fundamental and
immaterial qualities: Sat: eternity;
Cit: cognitive faculty or conscience
and Ananda: which promotes
pleasure. Identifying with it (the
soul), we would reach a very high
spiritual state or, in more exact
terms, to fulfilled the human being
producing a well-being in all the
levels (psyco-fisic-espiritual).
Which are the methods and means
to reach this state of original
spiritual conscience, where we
are liberated from the great range
of disturbances caused by an
out of control mind? The Vedas
(philosophical India agreements)
mention different processes in
agreement to the psycophysical
individual nature to reach the
transcendency. One of the most
famous and spread in West it is
the Yoga system. There are also
other systems less known by us;

for example the analytical study of
the diverse elements that shapes
the material and spiritual nature
(philosophy Sankhya), the study of
the revealed holy Scriptures, the
austerities execution (tapasya), etc.
Nowadays, deep investigation
works exist in the transpersonal
psychology area, that show
a practical and accessible
methodology to be able to reach
a spiritual conscience state.
These studies receive the name
of OIDATERAPIA, whose
translation would be “the cure
across the spiritual knowledge
“. In this psychotherapy system
it is said that the universal truth
is one, but that it change during
the time, place and circumstances
where it is exposed, in other
words, the spiritual truth that
the Indians proposed in their
writings (The Vedas) is similar to
the ideas proposed in the Bible in
the western world and Muslims in
Koran. In spite of the fact that this
therapeutic system a unit appears
in the spiritual diverse religious
doctrines truths, also appears the
idea of diversity, understanding
that a unit and simultaneous
difference exists. This philosophical
concept receives the name in
Sanskrit of “acintya veda aveda
tatva “: Unit and simultaneous
difference. In concordance to
this exposition, the existence
or what we called as a reality
would possess a characteristic.
This conceptualization comes to
extend a very spread idea inside
the transpersonal psychology that
mentions the universal existence
of an inherent unit within all
things, which we can accede,
joining together with the universe,
reaching the cosmic conscience.

The Oidaterapia, derived from a
great part of Vedic psychology,
makes clear that this one is not
the maximum state of conscience
that human being can aspire.
Beyond this state more sublime
states exist. The transpersonal
psychology view, in relation to this
point, answers a partial approach
of what has been named “human
being fulfill “, due to the fact that
it is based on an impersonal and
monistic truth conception that does
not consider the topic of diversity
and personality conception of the
absolute one.
The Oidaterapia aims that soul
(atma) has an intrinsic and eternal
relation with God, because we
are parts of Him, being equal
qualitatively and different
quantitatively, such as the relation
that exists between a drop of
water and the ocean. The atma or
the living entity being a God’s part
demonstrates the same qualities
that he in his pure condition, but
in infinitesimal quantities. From
this perspective, God is a supreme
person to whom we can personally
being related, always preserving
our own eternal individuality
and not fusing in his impersonal
or energetic existence, as many
transpersonal psychology authors
claim.
As a conclusion, from the
Oidaterapia point of view,
the human being fulfill, the
transcendency, the mukti, the
nirvana, the salvation or the real
liberation and the goal of the
human existence, it would consist
in restoring the lost and forgotten
personal relation we have with the
supreme person (Baghavan).

Vida) es un programa de la Sociedad
Internacional de la Conciencia de
Krishna (ISKCON). Es considerado
la mayor asociación, sin fines de
lucro, en la distribución de comida
vegetariana en más de 60 países.
Todos los días y de manera gratuita,
los voluntarios sirven más de
un millón de alimentos lacto-
vegetarianos ofrecidos a Dios (estos
alimentos bendecidos se llaman
Prasadam) y lo hacen de variadas
formas: Mediante furgonetas
con comida para personas sin
hogar, distribuyendo alimentos en
diferentes instituciones o casas de
acogida, entregando prasadam en
desastres naturales y la comida del
almuerzo para los niños pobres en
la India.
Food for Life es obra de Su Santidad
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
Prabhupada. Su origen data cuando
él en 1973, en algún momento, vio
a un grupo de niños cerca de un
templo luchando con unos perros
por un resto de comida en los
basureros. Frente a esto sintió un
gran malestar e inmediatamente
pidió a sus discípulos: “Nadie,
dentro de un espacio de diez millas
de un templo, debe pasar hambre.
Quiero que comiencen a distribuir
alimento de esa manera”.

Jaya Pataka Swami´s disciple
Food for Life (Alimentos para
la Vida) is a program of the
International Society for Krishna
Consciousness. This program
is considered now the biggest
association (nonprofit society) in
distribuiting vegetarian food in
more than 60 countries.
Every day and in a free way,
the volunteers serve more than
a million plates of this lacto
vegetarian meal (prassadam)
offered to God. They do it in
different ways: Through vans with
food to homelessness, distribuiting
food in different institutions or
shelter homes, giving prassadam
after natural disasters and giving
lunch to poor children in India.
Food for Life is a work from His
Holiness A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada. Its
introduction was in 1973 when
he saw some children nearby the
temple fighting with some dogs
for a scrap of food in dumpsters.
Against this he was greatly upset
and immediately asked his disciples:
“No one, within a space of ten miles
of a temple, should go hungry. I
request you start distribuiting food
in this way”.
In answer to this request, untill
today his followers and members
of the Hare Krishna movement
carry out the wish of his spiritual
master.
In our country, Food for Life
started in a sistematic manner in
1998 conformed by a group of
devotees stable and happy in this
service. Each week, they take on
the financing of the prassadam
distribution to the people living
in the streets or poor. Visiting
children and elederly homes,
nursing homes, juvenile prisons,
foundations, etc. Along with
the food distribution it has been
released to them the Hare Krishna
Maha Mantra, always thinking
that our founder Acarya (teacher
who leads by example) would be
pleased with our effort.
All these years, Food for Life
Chile has mantained an itinerant
and simple style rather than
an institutionalized system in
the food distribution. This has
caused that many devotees and
Krishna`s friends have participated
dynamically in this service,
supporting it in different ways and
deriving practical realization from
this experience.
A second mode of prasadam

delivery in Chile is the night
distribution in the city, in the places
where people without home come
together. This program is called
“Gouranga nocturno”. In this way,
we bring hot prasadam to many
people in the streets: children, the
elderly, alcoholics and patients.
Thus Food for Life Chile has
traveled many camps and shelters
delivering hundreds and thousands
of meals distributed free.

Historical Context
Knowers of the wide oriental
literature or not, practicing it´s
traditions and knowledge or not,
everyone of us should have around
the valuable and timeless jewel,
“Bhagavad-Gita as it is” by His
Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada.
The reason for this statement goes
beyond a metaphysical or spiritual
perspective, topics that are dealt
in depth and that we´ll deal with
later on. For the moment, we
are interested in the educational
context that we receive from this
important book.
Most people looking for knowledge
know that the Bhagavad-Gita
(The song of God) is part of the
classic Mahabharata, the epic
history of India. There we find
the poetic conversation Krishna
had with Arjuna at the beginning
of fratricidal war between the
Pandava and Kaurava families to
gain the kingdom.
This transcendental dialogue is the
origin of self realization linked
to the different yoga systems,
activities and duties for the
understanding of the environment,
ourselves and mainly, the energies
and manifestations through which
we can know God.
The greatness of the “Bhagavad-
Gita as it is” is not only recognized
by it´s different teachings, by
remaining up to date since the time
it was spoken (over five thousand
years) or by it´s seven hundred
sanskrit verses. Beyond all these,
the “Bhagavad-Gita as it is” it´s
recognized by being fully relevant
in the present moment.
The topics, like in a bundle of
wool, are developed step by step
in a precise manner. The wisdom
required to understand the troubles
faced back then is the same wisdom
we need to deal with the problems
we face today.
Nowadays, we live surrounded by
comfort and technology. Human
beings have achieved control over
countless things but have left aside
the main ones: ignorance about
our original constitution and our
boundless attachment to matter,
kama (lust or hybrids according to
greek philosophy).
Educational Context
By education we mean the
multidirectional process by which
knowledge, values, attitudes and
behaviour is transmitted. In this
context, the “Bhagavad-Gita as it is”
gives us real knowledge about the
self. It gives us primordial values and

La grandeza de “El Bhagavad-Gita tal como es” no se
reconoce solamente por los diversos conocimientos que
imparte, por mantenerse vigente desde los tiempos en
que fue explicado (cinco mil años aproximadamente) o
por los setecientos versos en sánscrito que lo componen.
Más allá de esto, la sublimidad de “El Bhagavad-Gita tal
como es” se refleja por ser plenamente convergente a
nuestros tiempos.
La temática, como una madeja de lana, va desenrollando
paso a paso y de forma precisa, las sabidurías que
necesitamos para entender que las problemáticas que
se enfrentaban en ese momento siguen siendo los
problemas que acarreamos hasta hoy.

En los tiempos actuales vivimos rodeados de
tecnologías y comodidades. Si bien el ser humano ha
logrado controlar infinidad de cosas, ha dejado de lado
las principales: La ignorancia de nuestra constitución
original y el apego desmesurado a la materia. Kama

deber reside la virtud de toda acción (Karma).
El Bhagavad-Gita es la base de la educación. Para el
filósofo alemán Arthur Schopenhauer este libro es: “La
más educativa y elevada de todas las lecturas que es
posible encontrar en este mundo”.
Krishna en este rol de maestro y educador no solamente
está impartiendo conocimientos a Arjuna, sino también
a toda la humanidad. Y no debemos pensar o creer
que este conocimiento es para un tipo particular de
personas, afines a una creencia o sistema. El Bhagavad-
Gita nos delega un conocimiento universal. Es un libro
necesario para todos, ya que expone básicamente las
actitudes, valores, capacidades y destrezas que todo ser
humano debe adquirir.
La filosofía de la Educación hace hincapié en dar un
significado elevado a la vida. Y con respecto a esto, “El
Bhagavad-Gita tal como es” nos educa para adquirir

este significado, partiendo por saber cuál es nuestra
constitución original.
Esto último se logra a través del “Jñanam”

autor, Srila Prabhupada, nos dice: “El Señor Krishna le

cientos de millones de años atrás. Tenemos que aceptar
este hecho y, en base a la autoridad de Krishna, entender
así la importancia histórica del Bhagavad-Gita, sin
interpretaciones erróneas. Entender así el Bhagavad-
Gita es verdaderamente autorizado y provechoso para
el bienestar de la sociedad humana, en lo que se refiere
al cumplimiento de la misión de la vida.”
El ser humano tiene escaso conocimiento espiritual
sobre el origen y la meta de la jiva (ser vivo). Por ello
el autor considera que es menester situarnos como
aprendices, estudiantes neófitos, dejando de lado
nuestro ego y aceptando con ansias estos conocimientos.
¿Para qué? Para el bienestar de la sociedad humana,
para alcanzar la meta de la vida. ¿Y cuál es esta
meta? Citemos nuevamente a Srila Prabhupada: “En
vez de uno tratar de satisfacer sus propios sentidos
materiales, tiene que satisfacer los sentidos del Señor.
Esto constituye la máxima perfección de la vida”.
Por supuesto, muchas dudas pueden surgir luego de
esta aclaración y es el propio autor quien nos sumerge
en estos cuestionamientos que son necesarios para
poder deleitar con respeto y apreciación esta joya de
conocimiento y educación que es el Bhagavad-Gita
tal como es. Si las preguntas están planteadas, las

Para concluir, el autor expresa de forma dulce y sublime
su deseo final: “Esperamos, pues, que la gente obtenga
el beneficio más grande de todos a través del estudio

se vuelve devoto puro del Señor, consideraremos que

Una vez por el año 1997, si es

estaba distribuyendo libros de

Recuerdo que era en la tarde y había

devotos latinos para ayudarnos.

en Uruguay. Ella se había vuelto
una gran sankirtanera y no sólo
eso, también su madre de 55 años
vino a la misión para ayudarnos.
Posteriormente también viajó su

Hoy pienso en todo esto y me doy
cuenta que por misericordia de
Krishna un pequeño esfuerzo de
estirar tu mano y dar una pequeña

A little effort
can make a big difference

Once, around 1997 if my memory
doesnt fail, I was distributing
Srila Prabhupada´s books in the
streets of Montevideo. Those
streets are narrow, gray and not
very pretty. I remember it was
the afternoon and there was a
small man speaking loudly and
trying to stop people.
I was out of books already. I
only had some very simple black
and with invitation copies. I
remember stoping a a girl who
was dressed like a hippie. I gave
her an invitation, she thanked me
and went on her way.
One day, she actually went to the
Montevideo preaching center
and started attending some
lectures. Time went by and I
moved to the Buenos Aires temple.
Being a brahmacari (celibate
student), I joined Gunagrahi
Maharaja´s sankirtana team,
called Krsna Fest.
During those times, we used to
travel a lot. We started traveling
to other countries. We went up to
New York to raise funds for the
construction of the new temple
in Buenos Aires.
After some time, we were informed
that new latin devotees will join
to help us. My big surprise was
when I met that same girl I gave
an invitation that day, back in
Uruguay. She had become a big
sankirtan devotee and not only
that, her 55 years old mother
had also joined the mission to
help us. Her brother also joined
eventually, thus, the whole family
had turned into devotees.
Today I reflect on this and I
realize that, by Krsna´s mercy, the
little effort of stretching
the arm to handle out an
invitation can manifest a
big miracle.

Matrimonio y familia:
Un camino hacia la liberación espiritual

Una característica del ser humano en sociedad es la necesidad de formar
y mantener el vínculo de la familia. Etimológicamente la palabra “familia”
deriva del sánscrito “SHA” que significa casa, asiento o morada. De esta
manera surge el término familia como el conjunto de personas que viven en
una misma casa.
Este concepto fue superado en el devenir de los tiempos. La familia como
fenómeno natural y sistema védico precede al matrimonio como fenómeno
jurídico. En una primera aproximación no encontramos en nuestro Derecho
de Familia una definición legal de familia.
Sin embargo, nuestro Código Civil -en su artículo 102- se ocupa de definir el
matrimonio como: “Un contrato solemne, por el cual un hombre y una mujer
se unen actual e indisolublemente, y por toda la vida, con el fin de vivir juntos,
de procrear, y de auxiliarse mutuamente”.
Gracias a esta definición, encontramos características esenciales del
matrimonio y podemos ver, de alguna manera, su origen último en las
enseñanzas de los textos védicos.
Como primera característica el matrimonio es un contrato y, como tal, de él se
derivan una serie de derechos y deberes ya sea en el ámbito personal entre los
cónyuges o entre éstos y los hijos, o ya sea en el ámbito patrimonial.
De la misma manera, observamos este carácter contractual en el sistema
védico. Citamos a Srila Prabhupada: “Debe haber un contrato formal firmado
por ambas partes en cada matrimonio. Tal contrato se hace sobre la base de un
servicio realizado en armonía al Señor, porque tal cooperación mutua, en servir
al avance de la conciencia de Krsna, minimiza la ilusión de la compatibilidad e
incompatibilidad materiales”.
En segundo término, la ley le otorga el carácter de solemne, es decir, va a
estar afecto a la observancia de ciertas solemnidades legales sin las cuales el
acto matrimonial no tendría existencia y validez.
Según la cultura védica, lo sagrado de la ceremonia matrimonial “Vivaha-
samskara” está simbolizado por la ceremonia de fuego, los mantras sagrados
y por la presencia de un brahmana cualificado.
En este sentido, un brahmana cualificado puede ser o no el Maestro Espiritual
de alguno de los contrayentes quien oficiará la ceremonia. Los novios
intercambiarán sus guirnaldas, se les dará de probar alimentos en señal que
compartirán todo, el esposo pintará de rojo la frente de su esposa en señal
de unión, luego darán siete vueltas en torno al fuego sagrado que se ubicará
en el centro de la ceremonia rodeado por un cuadrado de barro, los esposos
recibirán regalos y la ceremonia terminará con bailes y mantras en torno al
fuego sagrado.

están obligados a guardarse fe, a
socorrerse y a ayudarse mutuamente
en todas las circunstancias de la vida.
Marriage and family:
A way towards spiritual liberation

A characteristic of the human being in society is
the necessity to create and maintain a family link.
Etymologically the word family derives from the
Sanskrit “SHA” which means house, seat or abode. In
that way the term family arises as a set of people who
lives in the same house.
This concept was overcome with time. A family as
natural phenomena and vedic system precedes the
marriage as a juridical phenomena. In a first approach
we do not find in our “Derecho de Familia” (Family
Right) a legal definition for family.
However, our Civil Code –in article 102- defines the
marriage as: “a solemn contract, through by which a
man and a woman join actual and indissolubly, and
for the rest of their life, and with the goal of living
together, as for procreation and mutual support”.
Due to this definition, we find the essentials of a
marriage and we can see, in some way, its final origin in
the teachings of the vedic texts.
As a first characteristic, marriage is a contract and, as
such, from it derives a series of
rights and duties either in the
personal aspect between the
spouses or among them and
the sons, or in the patrimonial
aspect.
Similarly, we observe this
established feature in the
vedic system. We quote Srila
Prabhupada: “…it is our duty
therefore to re-establish the
correct procedure of human life
in the matter of encouraging
our disciples who wish to
marry to enter into a contract
of spiritual wedlock. Such
contract is made on the basis of
compatible service of the Lord.
Such mutual cooperation in
serving the advancement of
Krsna Consciousness minimizes
the illusion of material
compatibility and material
incompatibility”.
In second term, the law grants a
solemn character, this means, it will be affect to certain
observances of some legal solemnities, without which
the marriage would not exist or have any validity.
According to vedic culture, what is sacred of the
marriage ceremony “Vivaha-samskara” it is symbolized
by the fire ceremony, sacred mantras and by the
presence of a qualified brahmana.
In this sense, a qualified brahmana may be or not the
spiritual master of any of the participants who will
lead the ceremony. The bride and groom will exchange
garlands, they will be given eatables as a sign of
sharing everything, the husband will paint with red
his wife’s forehead as a sign of union, then they will
circumambalate seven times the sacred fire which will
be located in the center of the ceremony, surrounded
by a square mud, the spouses will receive tokens and
the ceremony will finish with dancing and mantras
around the sacred fire.
Furthermore, in vedic culture there are many
preparations that must be done for the future spouses,
from performing the ceremony in a auspicious moment,
up to the fiancée decoration, lounge and vestment.
The bride may be decorated according to a ritual that
includes 16 ways of decoration. The couple must use
new garments that had not have been used or washed
before, but rather purified by the sun, wind, mantras
and pancapatra. The fiancée preferably shall use a red
sari and gold or a bright colors one. The groom shall
dress in white.
The law points out that the marriage is a contract
between a man and a woman, from this element derives
the principles of sex diversity and monogamous
marriage.
One of the most controversial topics of this last time,
at the level of our national doctrine is the marriage
indissolubility. Either for the legislature as for the
Chilean doctrine this feature of marriage it was not
until long ago that it was interpreted in the sense that
it should be “lifelong” for the couple.
It is also like that according to the teachings of Srila
Prabhupada: “the boy and the girl must be willing to
accept each other for the rest of their lives”.
The only possible dissolution, in general terms, it
was death or the declaration of nullity. The spouses
by their own will couldn’t end their marriage because
divorce did not exist. However today, as this institution
has been incorporated to our legal system, it has been
allowed that just simply stop living together and time
passing by – among other reasons – represent an
objective fact to terminate the marriage.

if we consider that, by the other
hand, the legal definition of
marriage that is under analysis
was maintained unaltered despite
that legal modifications. In this
legal scenario the precept in vedic
scriptures appears opposite to the
text of law.
Finally, a last characteristic
element of marriage is the
expositions of its goals; these are,
to live together, procreate and to
help each other.
Article 131 points out: “the spouses
are obliged to be faithful to each
other, succour and help mutually
in all circumstances of life. The
husband and wife owe respect
to each other, and reciprocal
protection”.
In the past, the legal norm it
was closer to vedic texts, since
that woman owe obedience to his
husband and he must protect her.
Presently we observe with this
modification and the abolition
of the norm that established the
duty of the woman to follow her
husband wherever he went, that
our legislator has separated from
vedic texts.
Similarly article 133 says: “both
spouses have the right and the duty
to live in a common household,
excepting that some of them has
a grave reason for not doing so”.
Finally article 134 paragraph 1º
prescribes: “Husband and wife
must provide to the necessities
of the common family based on
their economical faculties and the
regime of goods that they share”.
Although this last disposition does
not armonize completely with
vedic prescriptions, we are able
to see that this three dispositions
cited underlying vedic precepts
of deep importance as it refers to
living together, procreation and to
help each other. Nonetheless and as
a conclusion, there is a long way to
go to our law to make it according
to the vedic model of stable
households founded in faithfulness,
respect and protection.

Prabhu Partha Sarathi. Él amablemente respondió nuestras preguntas antes y después
de dar una inolvidable clase de Bhagavad-Gita.

Prabhu Partha Sarathi es un gran predicador.
Él viaja por el mundo entregando Conciencia de
Krishna. Sus palabras irradian bhakti, devoción
por Dios. En lo personal, recuerdo que lo primero
que me sorprendió fue su refulgencia. Nuestro
entrevistado ha sido muy afortunado: Conoció
a los devotos a los seis años de edad en Nueva
York. Él mismo declara: “Solía ver a los devotos
que iban por la calle todo el tiempo y no estaban
cantando, sólo hacían distribución de libros y
flores y de una manera me sentí atraído a eso y
yo hacía que mi papá les diera una donación cada
vez”.
Pregunta. ¿Cúal es la necesidad de practicar vida
espiritual?
Respuesta. Porque todo el mundo está completamente
loco. Al mundo le está faltando algo y esta llave es
la vida espiritual. Porque si la gente se encuentra
ocupada en el servicio a Dios van a hallar verdadera
felicidad, van a encontrar un verdadero significado a
sus vidas. Se van a ganar la lotería espiritual, porque
somos espiritualmente como niños. Así que algunas
veces tenemos que practicar todos los castigos que
se le dan a un niño y después tenemos que tomar
nuestra medicina, pero debido a que somos niños, no
nos gusta el sabor. Así que cuando uno es pequeño los
papás esconden la medicina en un sabor agradable y
lo mismo Krishna nos está dando esta medicina en
la forma del Santo Nombre. Si uno toma el canto del
Maha Mantra Hare Krishna entonces uno se vuelve
un bienqueriente de todas las entidades vivientes
y uno puede entender su verdadera posición
constitucional.
P. ¿Por favor puede contarnos alguna realización
que haya tenido?
R. Es que no entendemos cuán afortunados somos
por poder encontrarnos en este movimiento. En
realidad estuvimos perdidos, nos estamos ahogando
en el océano de la existencia material, estamos casi
completamente bajo el agua y luego aparece un
bote salvavidas y en ese bote salvavidas está Srila
Prabhupada dándonos el proceso y las enseñanzas
de Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Así que en realidad
somos las personas más afortunadas en todos los tres
mundos, en los tres universos y esa es la realización
más fuerte que yo he tenido. Sin Conciencia de
Krishna estamos muriendo de una muerte muy lenta.
P. ¿Podría hablarnos acerca de su relación con su
Maestro Espiritual? La importancia del Guru...
R. El Maestro Espiritual es el medio trascendental
hacia Krishna. Es como si usted tiene una unión, existe
un sindicato de barrenderos o sindicato plomeros y
en este grupo, en esta unión, hay una persona que
habla por usted y él cuida a todas las personas y el
Maestro Espiritual es así porque se preocupa por el
bienestar espiritual de sus discípulos. En el momento
de la iniciación el Maestro Espiritual promete al
discípulo llevarlo de vuelta a Dios y el discípulo
promete hacer todo lo que el Maestro Espiritual le
pida para llevarlo de vuelta a Dios. “’Sadhu-sanga’,
‘Sadhu-sanga’—sarva-sastre kaya lava-matra sadhu-
sange sarva-siddhi haya” (Caitanya Caritamrita,
Madhya Lila, 22, 54). Esto es: “La evidencia en todas
las escrituras reveladas se revela por un momento
de asociación con un devoto puro, la vida de uno se
vuelve completa” y ésa es la importancia del Maestro
Espiritual. El Maestro Espiritual es su mejor amigo
y bienqueriente. El Maestro Espiritual es nuestra
conexión con la sucesión discipular, porque la
misericordia de Krishna desciende a través de la
sucesión discipular.
P. ¿Y específicamente qué es lo que más admira
de su Guru, qué virtud o cualidad admira en él?
R. Yo admiro el hecho de que mi Guru le entregue
su corazón a cada persona que él se encuentra. Él me
dice que le predique a la gente, dice que no predique
un mensaje general sino que predique a personas,
a individuos y yo veo la relación individual que él
tiene con las personas y veo el amor que él desarrolla
con estas personas. En mi opinión, esto ha tenido un
impacto muy grande en mi vida espiritual y yo trato
de hacer lo mismo en mi prédica. También trato de
entregar mi corazón por completo a cada persona
con la cual me encuentro. Mi Maestro Espiritual no
está siendo mantenido por cosas materiales. Él está
siendo mantenido por las relaciones amorosas que él
mantiene con los devotos y esto es ser un verdadero
Sannyasa.
P. Con respecto a su visita, ¿Conocía Chile, sabía
algo de Chile, tenía contacto con algún devoto?
R. Si, conocía a algunos devotos, pero Su Santidad
Hanumatpresaka Swami me invitó a venir. Él me

amigo para mí. Yo haría lo que sea por él, así que él
me pidió venir aquí y sin vacilar vine.
P. ¿Cúal es su libro favorito de Srila Prabhupada
y porqué?
R. Mi libro favorito de Srila Prabhupada es el
Bhagavad-gita, porque la batalla de Kuruksetra es
nuestra vida, y como si aplicamos el Bhagavad-gita
tal como lo hizo Arjuna también podemos volvernos
devotos puros de Krishna.

P. Usted acaba de hablar sobre Krishna y la guerra.
Como usted es un soldado me parece inevitable
hacer esta pregunta ya que es una experiencia
extrema: ¿Es muy difícil practicar la Conciencia
de Krishna en esas circunstancias?
R. No, toda situación material atrae dificultades, tu
experiencia va a tener algunas buenas cosas y todas
las situaciones van a tener algunas cosas malas, pero
lo importante es cómo tomamos esas cosas y las
volteamos a Conciencia de Krishna, entonces no fue
malo para mí, fue realmente fácil porque todo lo que
tenía era Krishna.
P. En sus clases usted contó que algunos soldados
habían muerto en sus brazos.
R. Si, es parte de la vida. Donde hay vida hay
muerte, por eso es tan importante tomar Conciencia
de Krishna, porque nosotros no sabemos cuando
vendrá ese momento. Mucha gente abandonó el
cuerpo frente a mí, pero ellos abandonaron el cuerpo
sabiendo acerca de Krishna, por lo tanto su vida no
fue una perdida.
P. ¿Durante su permanencia en el ejército nunca
sintió miedo?
R. No, nunca. Yo sabía que Krishna se iba a hacer
cargo de mí. En ningún momento sentí que estaba
asustado por mi vida. Estaba mucho más temeroso
por la vida de todos los demás, quizás ellos no
recordarían a Krishna en el momento de la muerte.
P. Prabhu, usted organizó el primer Ratha Yatra
en un país musulman. ¿Puede hablarme de esa
actividad o pasatiempo?
R. Si, fue una buena experiencia. La experiencia fue
ver directamente al Señor Jagannatha afectando
la vida de la gente. El Señor Jagannatha arregló

toda esa situación. Ver a toda esa gente agrupada y
reunida para tirar del carro de Jagannatha fue una
de las cosas más impresionantes que he visto en mi
vida. Fue absolutamente sorprendente. Es algo que
vivirá conmigo por siempre. Ver gente que no sabía
nada del Señor Jagannatha tirando de ese carro,
ellos de esa forma estaban tirando todos los deseos
materiales del corazón.
P. ¿Pese a todas las dificultades que este mundo
material tiene, uno puede mantenerse siempre
conciente de Krishna?
R. Por siempre recordando cuán especial es este
movimiento, por siempre estar dándose cuenta de
cuán especial es nuestra relación con Krishna. La
única cosa que nos va a salvar en nuestra vida es
nuestra prédica, es todo lo que tenemos. Todo lo
que tenemos que hacer es dar este mensaje a todas
las personas. Como Vaisnavas nosotros proveemos
de refugio, es nuestro trabajo, entonces nosotros
tenemos que en realidad empezar a hacer eso,
proporcionar ese refugio.
P. Para terminar esta entrevista ¿Cómo podría
motivar a los lectores de esta revista para que
aprendan Conciencia de Krishna?
R. Porque Conciencia de Krishna es la filosofía
más elevada, por que las enseñanzas nos dicen que
nosotros debemos amar. Las personas al leer esta
revista realizarán que no pueden ser cien por ciento
felices, hasta que ellos se empleen en el servicio de
Dios. Ésta es la única forma por la cual nos podemos
volver verdaderamente felices. Eso es cuando nos
volvemos completamente libres de la conciencia
material, ver todo de un nivel más elevado, ver todo
con una conciencia más elevada, entonces tú también
quieres sentir ese amor y ese disfrute. Entonces tú
también deberías practicar Conciencia de Krishna...
Debemos tomar seriamente este proceso, tenemos
que darle este movimiento a todos y la gente por leer
va a entender que esto es algo muy especial, ellos
deberían entender que nosotros estamos vendiendo
diamantes y está la posibilidad que ellos puedan
obtener un diamante a un precio muy bajo, muy
barato. ¡Hare Krishna!

 Prabhu Partha Sarathi:
“World is missing something and that key is the spiritual life”
During his first visit to Chile (May 2009) we had the opportunity to conduct
an interview with Prabhu Partha Sarathi who, kindly, answer our questions before
and after an unforgotable class of Bhagavad-Gita.

Prabhu Partha Sarathi is great preacher.
He travels around the world giving
Krishna’s Consciousness since his words
radiate bhakti, devotion for God. Personaly,
I remember the first that surprise me was
his radience.
Our interviewee has been very fortunated
-he knew devotees at his six years old in
New York- He mentions “I use to see the
devotees who walk along the street all the
time, without singing, just distributing
books and flowers. In a way I felt attracted
by this, so I did that my father gave them a
donation each time”.

Question: What is the necessity of

practicing a spiritual life?

Answer: Because everybody is completely

crazy. World is missing something and this
key is the spiritual life, because if people
is buzy in the service of God, they will
find the true happiness, they’ll find a real
meaning for their lives; they’ll win the
spiritual lotery because we are like children
spiritually that is why, sometimes, we have
to practice all the punishments given for a child and
then we have to take our medicine, but due to we’re
children, we don’t like the flavor of it. So, when we’re
children parents hide the medicine behind a nice
flavor, the same Krishna is giving us this medicine as
the Holy Names. If we take the Maha mantra Hare
Krishna chant then we’ll become well-wishers of all
living entities, thus, we could understand our real
contitutional position.
Q: Please, could you tell us some realization you
have had?
A: Is that we don’t understand how much lucky we
are of being in this movement. Indeed, we were
lost. We are drowing in the ocean of the material
existence and suddenly, we’re almost completely
under the water when appears a lifeboat and in that
lifeboat is Srila Prabhupada giving us the process
and the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,
so in fact we are the most fortunate people in the
whole three worlds, in the three universes. That’s
the stronger realization I’ve had. Without Krishna’s
consciousness we are diying from a slow death.
Q: Could you speak us about the relationship
with your spiritual master? The importance of
a guru…
A: The spiritual master is the trascendental
media to Krishna. It’s similar to have a union, for
example, you have a street cleaners union or the
union of plumbers and in this group, in this union,

there is a person who speaks for you and he takes
care of all the people, and the spiritual master is
like that because he takes care about the wellfare of
his disciples. In the moment of iniciation, the guru
promeses to the disciple to lead him back to God
and the disciple promeses to do all that spiritual
master asks to lead him back to God “’Sadhu-sanga’,
‘Sadhu-sanga’—sarva-sastre kaya lava-matra sadhu-
sange sarva-siddhi haya” (Caitanya Caritamrita,
Madhya Lila, 22, 54) This means : “The verdict of
all revealed scriptures is that by even a moment’s
association with a pure devotee, one can attain all
success.” And this is the importance of the spiritual
master, the spiritual master is your best friend and
well-wisher. The spiritual master is our conection
with the discipular succession because the Krishna’s
mercy descends through the discipular succession.
Q: And specifically, what do you admire the most
about your guru. What virue or quality do you
admire of him?
A: I admire the fact that my guru gives his hart to
each person he finds. He told me I preach to the
people, he said that I don’t preach a general message
but preach to people, to individuals and I see the
individual relationship he has with people and I
see the love he develops with those people. In my
opinion, this has done a big impact in my spiritual
life so, I try to do the same in my preach. Also, I try
to give my hart completely to each person I find. My
spiritual master is not maintained by material things,
he is mantained by the loving relationships he keeps
with the devotees, this is to be a real Sannyasa.
Q: With respect to your visit. Did you know
Chile? Did you know something about Chile?
Did you know some devotee?
A: Yes, I met some devotees but His Holiness
Hanumatpresaka Swami invited me to come. He
ask me to come and I was agree with this because
Maharaja is my siksa guru as well as a friend for me.
I’ll do everything for him, so he asked me to come
and I came without hesitating.
Q: What is your favorite book by Srila Prabhupada
and why?
A: Mi favorite book by Srila Prabhupada is the

Bhagavad-Gita because the Kurushetra battle is our
life, so if we use the Bhagavad-Gita in the same way
Arjuna did, we also could become pure devotees of
Krishna.

Q: You just spoke about Krishna and War. As you
are a soldier is innevitable to do this question
since it is an extreme experience. Is it so hard
to practice Krishna’s consciousness under such
conditions?
A: No, any material situation atract difficulties. Your
experience will have some good things and every
situation will have some other bad, but the important
issue here is how you take these things and turn over
Krishna’s consciousness, so, it was not so bad for me,
it was quite easy because all that I had was Krishna.
Q: In classes you told some soldiers died in your
arms.
A: Yes, it’s part of Life, where there is life is
death, that’s why it’s so important take Krishna’s
consciousness because we don’t know when that
moment will come. Many people left the body in
from of me knowing about Krishna, so their lives
were not a lost.
Q: During your continuence in the army did you
ever feel afraid?
A: No, never. I knew Krishna will take care of me,
at any moment I felt afraid of my life. I was afraid
of the lives of others, maybe they wont remember
Krishna at the time of their death.
Q: Prabhu, you organice the first Ratha Yatra
in a Muslin country. Could you talk about that
activity or passtime?
A: Yes, it was a good experience. The experience
was to see, directly, to Lord Jagannatha afecting
the people’s life. Lord Jagannatha arrange all
that situation, to see all those people grouped and
gathered to pull the Jagannatha car was one of the
most amazing tings I’ve ever seen in my life, it was
absolutely amazing. It’s something that is goning
to live with me forever. To see people who didn’t have
any idea about Lord Jagannatha pulling that car, in a
way, they were throwing all the material desires of
the heart.
Q: In spite of all the difficulties this material wold
has, it is possible to keep Krishna’s consciousness
at any time?
A: To be always remembering how special this
movement is, to be always realizing how special our
relationship with Krishna is. The only thing that’s
going to save us is our preaching, is all that we have
and all that we have to do is giving this message to
all people. As Vaisnavas we provide a shelter, it’s our
job, so, that’s what we have to stat to do for real, to
provide that shelter.
Q: To finish with this interview. How could you
encourage to the readers of this magazine to
learn about Krishna’s Consciousness?

El yoga es originario de India, tiene más de 5.000 años
de antigüedad, y surge como respuesta a las distintas
problemáticas existenciales planteadas por el ser
humano. Por ello, ha sido practicado por grandes
sabios a lo largo de toda la historia. Además, el yoga
forma parte de uno de los seis sistemas filosóficos de
India (Darshanas) y comprende un marco práctico,
fisiológico y teórico en el cual se puede adentrar.
La palabra ‘yoga’ significa unión, y lo que busca esta
disciplina es precisamente tomar conciencia de la
unión entre cuerpo, mente y espíritu.
El yoga es armónico y universal. Armónico, porque
desde sus primeras etapas el Ser va alcanzando
paz interior, lo que genera una mejor relación con
el entorno. Y universal, por tratarse de un método
milenario que hoy en día, a nivel mundial, se alza
como un eficaz instrumento para desenvolvernos en
el medio que nos rodea; con salud, bienestar y paz,
ayudándonos a llevar mejor el ajetreado día a día.
A: Because Krishna’s Consciousness is the highest
philosophy since teachings tell us we have to love.
People by reading this interview will realize they
can’t be a hundred percent happy until they’ll
be engage in the service of God. This is the only
way we could become really happy, that’s when we
are completely free of material consciousness, see
everything from a higher level, see everything with
a higher consciousness, then you also will want to
feel that love and enjoyment, so, you also should
practice Krishna’s Consciousness…we have to take
this process seriously, we have to give this movement
to everybody and people by reading will understand
that this is something very especial. They should
understand we’re selling diamonds and that exist the
possibility they’ll get a diamond for a low price, very
cheap. Hare Krishna!

Los Vedas, textos sagrados más antiguos de la
humanidad, contienen conocimiento acerca de
artes, ciencias, medicina, astrología, alimentación y
filosofía. Una parte de todo este vasto conocimiento
son las Asanas, o posturas de yoga. Todas las posturas
de yoga tienen como objetivo principal flexibilizar
y fortalecer el cuerpo, para adoptar una postura
cómoda de meditación y cesar las fluctuaciones
mentales mediante el control de la respiración.
La meditación, como parte fundamental del yoga,
permite estar centrado, equilibrado, activo, dinámico
y alegre. Estudios médicos sugieren que la práctica
de la meditación ayuda a reducir el estrés, activa
zonas cerebrales relacionadas con las emociones
positivas, y permite vencer pensamientos en exceso
negativos (como desesperación, confusión, ansiedad,
ira y aun depresión), entre otros beneficios. También
sirve en el tratamiento de adicciones y obesidad. La
meditación que nos entrega el yoga brinda mayor

paciencia, tolerancia, aceptación y
equilibrio en nuestras vidas.
El yoga nos ayuda a eliminar
toxinas del cuerpo y mejorar
nuestro sistema inmunológico. Es
cierto que el estrés o la hipertensión
se pueden tratar con fármacos,
pero es posible utilizar dosis más
bajas de éstos si se los combina con
posturas yóguicas o Pranayama
(técnicas yóguicas de respiración).
¿Cómo se practica el yoga?
El esquema común comienza
con una meditación para calmar
la mente y preparar el cuerpo,
tomando conciencia de éste, para
luego realizar asanas, e ir avanzando
en complejidad. Las asanas, al ser
sostenidas a lo largo del tiempo en
forma firme y cómoda, nos brindan
innumerables beneficios, tanto
a nivel celular como hormonal,
muscular, mental y emocional.
Cada asana tiene una
influencia especial sobre las
distintas glándulas del cuerpo,
estimulándolas y permitiendo un
funcionamiento correcto de las
mismas. A nivel físico, tonifican,
distienden y alargan los músculos,
eliminando el exceso de grasa
en el cuerpo, además nos hace
resistentes ante las enfermedades y
el envejecimiento.
Pulmones y respiración son el
motor de la oxigenación que
beneficia a todo el organismo.
El yoga optimiza la respiración,
mejorando la calidad de vida.
La respiración está íntimamente
ligada con las emociones. Cada una
de ellas tiene un ritmo respiratorio
diferente. Los distintos ritmos de
respiración permiten manejar las
emociones y la mente.
La parte final de la práctica yóguica
corresponde a un enfriamiento

gradual del cuerpo, por medio de
distintas torsiones y estiramientos
de columna, piernas y brazos,
para llegar progresivamente a
una relajación profunda de todo el
cuerpo y la mente, tras una breve
meditación con un pranayama
antes de finalizar la sesión.
El yoga, además de posturas,
respiración y meditación, incluye
diversas técnicas de purificación
interna y externa del cuerpo
(Shatkarmas), así como también la
entonación de distintos mantras.
Un mantra es una vibración sonora
que libera la mente y transforma la
conciencia a través del sonido. En
la cultura de India, mantra es el
manejo científico del sonido, ya que
mediante la combinación erudita
del sonido éste logra develar la real
conciencia del Ser.
Existen distintos tipos de yoga
Karma yoga o senda de la
acción; Gñana yoga o senda del
conocimiento; Hatha yoga o senda
del equilibrio; y Bhakti yoga o senda
del servicio devocional. Esta última
es la más avanzada, por requerir
mayor conocimiento por parte del
practicante. En este último caso
se utiliza el maha mantra Hare
Krishna que nos conecta con la
energía suprema del amor de Dios.
Por eso, al cantar estas 16 palabras

Yoga comes from India. Is older
than 5.000 years and appears
as the answer for the different
existentialist problematics rose by
human being, that is why it has been
practiced by great wises through
history. Also, yoga belongs to one
of the six philosophical systems
of India (Dharshanas) which holds
the practical, philosophical and
theoretical framework where is
possible to go deeper.
The word “yoga” means “union”
that is, precisely, what this
discipline attempts for: to realize
about the union among body, mind
and spirit. Yoga is harmonic and
universal. Harmonic because since
its first stages the self achieves
inner peace, which provides a better
relationship with the environment
and universal because it is part
of a millenary method that today
raises up, arroun the world, as one
of the most effective tools for our
development in this environment
in a healthy, positive and peaceful
way, helping us to cope with our
always busy days.
The Vedas, the eldest text of
mankind, have knowledge about
arts, science, medicine, astrology,
feeding and philosophy. A portion
of all this knowledge are the
Asanas, or yaga postures, which
have the purpose of softening
and strenghting body in order to
adopt a comfortable posture of
meditation and to cease the mental
fluctation via breathing control.
Meditation, as an essensial part of
yoga, allows us to be well- balanced,
active, dinamic and happy. Some
medical researches suggest that
the practice of meditation helps
to reduce stress, to active the areas
of the brain related to possitive
emotions and, also, it allows us to
defeat extremely negative thoughts
(such as desperation, confusion,
anxiety, anger and depresion)
among other benefists.Besides,
it helps against adictions and
obesity. The yoga meditation gives
patience, tolerance, aceptance and
balance in life, as weel as, it helps
to eliminate toxines and to improve
our inmunological system.
In spite of that it is true that stress
and hypertensión can be treated
with drugs, it is possible to reduce
their dose if they are combine with
yogi postures or Pranayana (yogi
breathing teachniques).
How is Yoga practiced?
The commun scheme started with
a meditation time to calm down
the mind and prepare the body
becoming aweare of it, latter, some
asanas are performed to move
forward in complexity.
The asanas
when
are kept in time in a firm and
comfortable way,
provides multiple
benefits, both, cellular
and hormonal as well
as muscular, mental
and emotional. Each
asana has an especial
influence on each of the
different gland of the
body, stimulating and
allowing them to work
properly. In a physical
level, they tone up, ease
and stretch muscles,
aliminatening fat excess
of the body; meanwhile, they make
us resistent to illnesses and ageing.
Lungs and brithing are the engines
for the oxygenation that benefits
the whole organism. Yoga optimize
brithing which improve the quality
of life, due to brithing is strongly
related to emotions. Each emotion
has a different repiratory pace, thus,
the different respiratory paces help
to manage emotions and mind.
The last part of yoga practice
consist of a gradual cooling
of the body through
different torsions
and stretchings
of the spine, legs
and arms

somos seres buscadores de felicidad,
pero frente a tanto sufrimiento la
pregunta es: ¿Estaremos buscando

Narottama dasa Thakura was the
son of King Krishnananda Datta
and Narayani Devi and they lived in
Gopalpur Pargana of the Rajsahi,
Bangladesh district. After his
father´s death, he trusted his royal
duties to his paternal uncle´s elder
son and defected in order to go to
Vrindavan.
In Vrindavan, Narottama was
received by Rupa Gosvami and
Sanatana Gosvami. Later was
initiated by Lokanatha Gosvami,
being his only disciple, and he
recomended Narottama go and
study with Jiva Gosvami.

Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura

of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,
Narottama arranged year festivals
in Kheturi, Bengala, inaugurating
the first Goura Purnima festival
which served to maintain the
Gaudiya philosophy unified.

Hacia una arquitectura conciente

La arquitectura enfrenta el desafío
de reflexionar y explorar en esa
profunda y esencial relación que le
ha dado simiente, en ese primigenio
protagonismo que el hombre, con
sus cualidades perceptivas y en
su carácter de sujeto tiene con el
espacio arquitectónico creado.
Expectantes observamos como se
deslizaron de nuestras manos esos
ejemplos que sirvieron de norma,
e indudablemente
además,
Vastu
presenciamos un significativo
cambio: del paradigma mecánico
transitamos al electrónico.
Sin embargo la arquitectura
pareciera no haber detectado
semejante permuta y transición.
La arquitectura, representada
tradicionalmente por su carácter
concreto, afronta el dilema de dar
respuestas al inevitable traspaso de
“medio” que se nos presenta.
Los medios electrónicos son
una especie de nebulosa en su
interactuar con el espacio; una
aparente realidad en donde
podemos descubrirnos y al mismo
tiempo no hallarnos, permanecer
y desaparecer, estimulando
frenéticamente un estado de ilusión.
Una sombra que nos hace olvidar
nuestra comprensión del “Ser”.
El fenómeno electrónico crea un
doble espejismo, una singularidad
manifiesta en sutilezas nunca antes
registradas.
La antigua cultura Védica
denominaba maya (lo que no es)
a esa ilusión. Según se explica en
sus escritos, maya cubre al hombre
en su comprensión de la realidad,
y jugando en ese segundo plano,
celebra lo que “no es”, por sobre
lo que “existe”. De igual forma,
los medios electrónicos ponen
en tela de juicio a mecanismos
sensoriales como el de la “visión”,
debido a que ya no podemos dar
certeza de cómo vemos o qué
distinguimos.
Históricamente la arquitectura
ha corporizado el espacio a través
de la visión, estructurándolo y
ubicando objetos en su contexto,

y proporcionando una enorme gama
de elementos para “ver” o ser leídos
de esta manera.
Al estar emparentada ancestralmente
con los dispositivos de la “visión”
(remonta esta atadura por lo menos
teóricamente al Renacimiento) ahora
debe hacer frente al desafío expuesto
por las nuevas condiciones ambientales
de los medios electrónicos. Es
entonces oportuno, recurrir a esa vasta
base de datos expuesta en forma de
normativas y métodos de diseño, que
descuidadamente hemos olvidado y
que nuestros ancestros desarrollaron
y plasmaron en exquisitas literaturas.
Según la mitología hindú, en
el ocaso de una civilización
extinguida, los Risis (descriptos
como seres de inmensa sabiduría

Architecture faces the challenge of reflecting and
exploring in that profound and essential relationship
between the character of man as a subject and
the space that has been created. Expectantly´, we
observe how all the examples that served as as
rules now just slip.
We undoubtedly witness a meaningful change:
from the mechanical paradigm to the electronic
one. However, architecture does not seem to have
detected such transition. Architecture, traditionally
represented by its concrete character, faces the
problem of giving answers to the inevitable change
of the environment that represents us.
Electronic means are some sort of nebula in its
interaction with space, an apparent reality in which
we can discover ourselves, and, at the same time,
it is also possible for us not to do this: remaining
and disappearing, stimulating in a frantic way an
state of illusion, that shadow that makes us forget
our comprehension of the being. The electronic
phenomenon creates a double mirage, some
singularity that is manifested in a subtlety never
known before.
The ancient Vedic culture used to call
Maya to that illusion. According to
what is written in its different pieces
of writing. Maya comprises man in
his understanding of reality. Playing
that second role, it celebrates “what it
is not” more than “what it is”. Similarly,
electronic means question sensory
mechanisms such as vision because we
cannot prove how we are able to see or
distinguish things visually.
Historically, architecture has given
shape to space through vision by giving
structure to it and placing the objects in
its context. It has also contributed with
a big amount of elements “for being
seen” or for being read in this way.
Architecture has historically been
connected to the elements of vision,
and now it has to face the challenge
exposed by the new environmental
conditions of the electronic means.
Consequently, it is suitable to use that
database previously exposed as norms
and methods for designing. That one
we seem to have forgotten. That one
our ancestors developed and put into
rich literature.
According to the Indian mythology, in
the fall of any civilization Risis (knowledgeable
and spiritually elevated beings) meet the secrets of
the functioning of the universe after facing hard
sacrifices. Then, Risis meet the supreme grace of
God, Sri Krsna Baghavan.
In Mundaka Upanisads the energetic and impersonal
aspect of God (Brahman) is described as “what
cannot be touched”, no colours, ears, hands or feet.
Something that is everywhere an immeasurable,
unbreakable, and always alive instant which wise
man call “the fountain”. Risis warned that the base
of the material visible world relied on the invisible,
a spiritual dimension much more subtle than the
mental and psychic aspects of human perception.
This idea is similar to one that is part of modern
physics which states that matter is equivalent to
energy. It then, gives shape to a phenomenological
universe of a vital energy that is transformed into
matter.
Consequently, shapes are formed by energetic
dynamic bonds which are perceived as the effects

Our observation of the different
components of the material space
is apparently always connected
to vision. However, it seems that
there are some other aspects that
we cannot experience just with the
limited sense of vision.
Contemporary architecture has
created some distance between man
and space, emphasising a division
between “what is seen” and “what is
understood” as vision, dissociating
the eye from the mental perception.
Some unknown and touching
emotions are then awoken, creating
a new spatial event which moves
from a paradigm focused on the
“effect” to the one focused on
affection.
Risis were conscious of all those
hidden affective impulses, but they
used symbols and myths to portray
them as means of connection
with the invisible world. The

También encontramos importantes versos en el
“Agastya Samhita” que describen las cualidades del
maestro espiritual como aquel que es pacífico, libre
de deseos por gratificar los sentidos, que controla su
cuerpo y mente, se ocupa en el estudio de las escrituras
védicas, es experto en revelar las escrituras, es el
mejor de los brahmanas (nacidos dos veces), entiende
el significado de los mantras, puede disipar todas
las dudas de sus discípulos, comprende las verdades
profundas, está siempre ocupado en purificarse a sí
mismo, ha logrado la perfección conduciendo los
sacrificios, es veraz, austero y usualmente está en la
orden de los jefes de familia.
Nunca debemos considerar al Gurú como una persona
ordinaria. El sabio Narada Muni nos dice “Yasya
saksad Bhogovaty jñona diprode gurau…” (Srimad
Bhagavatam 7.15.26): “Considerar al maestro
espiritual como un mortal ordinario hace que todo lo
que el discípulo haya aprendido u oído de su maestro,
incluyendo los mantras recibidos, será nulo y vacío,
tal como en el ejemplo del baño inútil del elefante
pues el maestro espiritual es la manifestación externa
del Señor Vishnu, y quien entrega el conocimiento

The Guru should never be considered as an
ordinary person. The sage Narada Muni says “Yasya

as an ordinary mortal makes that all that the disciple
has learned or heard from his/her master, including
the received mantras, will be null and void, such as
in the example of the useless bath of the elephant,
because the spiritual master is Lord Visnu’s external
manifestation, and who delivers transcendental
knowledge. The disciple must be very obliging and
surrendered at Sri Guru’s lotus feet, at every moment,
as much as for the questions as for the service. The
divine messages of ancient religion (Bhagavad-
Dharma) emanates from him. This will gradually
make progress in devotional practices. Even after
Srila Gurudeva’s disappearance, his surrendered
disciple will always receive his merci rain, without
others appreciate it.”
Following with the Srimad Bhagavatam, the sage
Prabhuddha teaches us: “Tasmad gurum prapadyema
jijñasuh uttamam...” whose english translation is
“To obtain our maximum welfare, we should go and
refuge under a self-realized spiritual master who is
well versed in the scripture’s knowledge, and who is
free from all vices such as attachment and anger. It is
imperative that the spiritual master is versed in the
revealed scriptures. In other case, his is not capable
of clarify the disciple’s doubts. Inevitably, the disciple
will tend to be unsatisfied and maybe he becomes
indifferent or faithless in the spiritual master.
The words “Para Brahmanisnatah” referes to the
spiritual master’s necesity of being completely
convinced of the absolute transcendence, through
personal realization and experience. In other case,
his mercy wouldn’t have much value, or produce any
result.
In the scriptures called “Hari Bhakti Vilas”, it’s
author, Srila Sanatana Goswami, says: “The Guru
himself must be in a position in which he can
experiment the deep spiritual truths and be stoical in
it’s comprehension. In other case, he will never be able
to give his disciple real understanding...The spiritual
master is determined in the uninterrupted devotional
service to the Lord, chanting the names of God. One
must take shelter in such spiritual master”.
From all these verses we can understand that
Sri Gurudev’s worshiping is the higher religious
principle. Therefore, lets pray to the Supreme Lord
Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu for his blessings in
order to be a committed servant of His confidential
servant, our dear Gurudevas. Hari bol!

Son muchas las ventajas que conlleva una vida
con una alimentación rica en vegetales, granos
y lácteos. Hay razones de economía, religión,
ecología, agricultura y más.
Hoy nos enfocaremos a un tema específico que nos
toca a todos directa e indirectamente: La ecología.
Para hablar del vegetarianismo en su sentido
ecológico, escogeremos un país en particular para
demostrar como esta opción contribuye a un mejor
planeta: Brasil, específicamente una localidad
llamada Santa Catarina.
Desde hace 7 años a la fecha se dobló la producción
mundial de carne en el mundo, llegando a 250
millones de toneladas anuales. Esto exige, por lo
tanto, cada vez más áreas de pastizales y más
agua.
Por ejemplo, en Santa Catarina la población humana
es de 5 millones de habitantes contra la población
de cerdos que equivale a 45 millones. Para albergar
a tantos animales se necesita deforestar una gran
parte de terreno para alimentarlos, lo que conlleva
la quema de árboles dejando un ecosistema
completamente nulo.

Ustedes se preguntarán ¿Dónde va todo este
excremento diariamente? Van a pequeños diques
o, llamados recientemente, estercoleros que
finalmente son derivados a recursos hídricos,
siendo diluidos en ríos para luego llegar al mar.
Al mar llegan más de 100.000 litros de desechos al
año, lo que provoca una diseminación descontrolada
de algas que al hundirse provocan un serio daño a la
biodiversidad, matando ecosistemas como corales,
fauna y flora marina.
La localidad de Santa Catarina tiene más del 90% de

al mar. Imaginemos cuánta agua está siendo
contaminada cada año, cada día, cada momento.
Un estudio reciente (*) señala que el agua dulce
se está acabando en el planeta debido al estiércol
de los cerdos, ya que producen diversos virus y
bacterias en el agua.
Cerca de 10.000 personas mueren al año debido
a las enfermedades transmitidas por el agua,
ya sea por comer productos derivados del mar o
consumiendo directamente agua
contaminada.
Por otro lado, para producir un
kilo de carne se necesitan 15.000
litros de agua. Mientras que para
un kilo de cereal, son necesarios
solamente 1.300 litros de agua.
Hay países que no pueden
producir suficientes vegetales por
que no tienen suficiente agua para
ello, permitiéndose así la muerte
de muchas personas, entre ellas
muchos niños y niñas.
Podemos formular la siguiente
pregunta: ¿Vale la pena criar
tantos animales sólo para el
consumo humano, si con ello sólo
conseguimos fomentar un disfrute
momentáneo, dejando de lado el
desarrollo de una vida compasiva
y pacífica?
Consideremos también que a raíz
de ello mucha gente muere de
hambre en el mundo, a causa de la
falta de recursos para solventar el
cultivo de cereales y legumbres,
siendo la pobreza un problema
lamentablemente siempre actual.
Gran cantidad de dinero se ocupa
en la construcción de mataderos
y los gobiernos fomentan el
consumo indiscriminado de carne,
viendo en sus propias narices
como mujeres, hombres y niños
mueren de hambre. ¿Pero qué
hay respecto a la necesidad de
cuidar nuestro planeta, y con ello
la formación de una conciencia
ecológica en nuestros niños?
¿Qué nos hará falta para entender
las consecuencias ética y morales
del consumo de carne?

Vegetarianism looked from the ecology

The word “vegetarian” comes
from the Latin word “vegetus” that
means: Complete, healthy, fresh or
vivacious. It from there that we
understand the expression “ Homo
vegetus “ as a vigorous person, as
well physically as mentally.
There are great advantages that
an alimentation full of vegetables,
grains and milk products has.
There are economical, religious,
ecological, agricultural and more
reasons.
Today we are going to focus on a
specific topic that we deal with it
every day directly or indirectly:
The ecology.
To talk about vegetarianism in an
ecological sense, we are going to
focused on a particular country
to demonstrate how this option
contributes to make a better
planet: Brazil, specifically in Santa
Catarina.
Since 7 years ago the meat world
production has been duplicated,
rising to 250 million tons per
year. This demand, therefore,
increasingly pasture and more
water.
For example, Santa Catarina has a
population of 5 million inhabitants
against pork population who is
equivalent to 45 millions. To shelter
more animals it is necessary to
deforest a great part of area to feed
them, which carries tree burning,
leaving a useless ecosystem, as a
consequence.
Moreover, land becomes unfertile,
not allowing new flora growing in
the place. Also, these lands become
useless and carbon dioxide that
comes from such deforestation
produces a harmful effect in the
ozone layer.
Pork excrements, per day,
are equivalent to 7 or 8 times
compared to humans. In addition,
pork excrements produce methane,
a chemist who damages our planet.
Maybe you wonder where all this
excrement goes every day, Well,
They go to small dikes or muck-
collectors, called recently, who
finally are derived into water
resources, being diluted in rivers
which then go to the sea.
Sea receive more than 100.000 liters
waste per year, which provokes
an over-excited dissemination of
algae that when they sunk provoke
a serious damage to the planet
biodiversity, killing ecosystems
and marine flora and fauna.
Santa Catarina has more than 90
% of its contaminated rivers and
all that go directly to the sea. Let’s
imagine how much water is being
contaminated, every moment,
every day and every year.
Recently studies (*) indicate that
sweet water is running out, on one
hand, due to the pork excrements
because they produce
diverse virus

and bacteria in the water.

the indiscriminate consume of
meat, being aware as women,
men and children are starving.
But, what about the need for take
care of our planet? , and with it
the formation of an ecological
conscience in our children?
What will we need to understand
the ethical and moral consequences
of consuming meat?
