OVERVIEW
FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) is a form of fiber-optic communication delivery that reaches one
living or working space. The fiber extends from the central office to the subscriber's living or
working space.

FTTH installations by FiberHome-Globe Team are for the delivery of data and voice. Optical
fiber links are installed up to the subscriber’s unit. Then signals are converted and delivered
using different forms for communication media such as coaxial cable, twisted pair or

FIBER OPTIC CABLE
Attenuation is the reduction of light power over distance. Even with
the highly pure materials used to manufacture the fiber
core/cladding, light power is lost over distance by scattering and
absorption within the fiber. fiber attenuation limits the distance light
pulses can travel while still being detectable. Attenuation is
expressed in decibels per kilometer (dB/km) at a given wavelength or
range of wavelengths. The attenuation of glass optical fiber is caused
by two factors, absorption and scattering.

Dispersion is inversely related to bandwidth, which is the information

carrying capacity of a fiber. This can be broadly described as the amount of
distortion or spreading of a pulse during transmission. If pulses spread out
too far, the detection unit at the other end of the fiber is not able to
distinguish one pulse from another, causing loss of information. Chromatic
dispersion occurs in all fibers and is caused by the various light colors
(components of a light pulse) travelling at slightly differing speeds along
the fiber.

24
SPLITTER

25
SPLITTER

• Optical paths are buried inside the silica chip

• Exist from 1x4 to 1x32 split ratios and higher become available (dual input possible as well)
• Only symmetrical splitters available as standard devices
• Compact compared to FBT at higher split ratios (no cascading)
• Better IL and uniformity at higher wavelengths compared to FBT over all bands.
• Better for longer wavelength; broader spectrum

-Converts optical signals transmitted via

fiber to electrical signals. ONT can send, aggregate
and groom different types of data coming from
customer and send it upstream to the OLT.

38
ACCESS LINK
OLT-ODF LINK • OLT must have Ring Access Network
• For 1x10G (1 Tx & 1 Rx Fiber per Leg)
• For 2x10G (
• Uses Duplex LC/UPC – SC/UPC Patch Cord

PON LINK
• 1 PON Port = 1 LCP
• Uses SC/UPC – SC/APC Patch Cord

39
FUSION SPLICING

Fusion splicing is based on the

creation of an electric arc between
two electrodes. In this arc two
cleaved fibers are brought together
where both ends melt one to the
other.

For splicers using core alignment,

align the light-guiding channel of
the fiber (9 micron core)
one to the other. These splicing
machines generate splices with
losses typically <0.05dB

NEW GUIDELINES:
• On corners and intersections, All poles
RTA should be applied for RTA. This is to
allow for the pull-offs and crossovers
incase pole erection will not be
allowed.
• In designing a NAP location, it should
not be adjacent to the electric pole
with transformers even with proposed
pole.
